I finally made a functional VTOL SSTO Aircraft!! Craft file for those interested » http://www./view/63byk1d41xn7jt8/VTOL_SSTO_Mk2.craft IT CAN LAND ON THE ROOF WITH THE HELI-PADS AFTER FLYING AROUND THE PLANET! I win the game (◉v◉) Flight instructions.. mmm.. Fly up to 15,000 then slowly level out so by 20,000 you are going up very slowly then fly to as close to 30,000 as you can without flame out, use Action Group (3) to shut down the outer most Jet Engines, then throttle down so you don’t flame out, activate Nuclear Engines with action group (6) and keep throttling down so you don’t flame out until just before 40,000. Then Shut down the two remaining jet engines with action group (2) and close Air Intakes with Action Group (1) and then throttle right up with the nuclear engines and pull up and push yourself into orbit. Vertical Jet Engines are action group (4), and I have placed two small rocket engines inside the jet engines, use them when you need a quick punch of thrust on landing.. for when the Jet Engines don’t provide enough thrust. The two little vertical rocket engines are action group (5) Another tip would be to use the two vertical jet engines to punch yourself off the ground when taking off... so do a conventional take off then jump off the ground with the two vertical engines before the end of the runway. : > That would be a good challenge for people.. create an SSTO that can do one orbit of Kerbin, de-orbit, then land on the heli-pad on the roof, without refueling. I know some of you already have craft that can do this, but for those that don't... a pretty good challenge for you. -

Ohhhh.. I like the Drop Ship one~ The Sky Crane is a really clever idea. I look forward to seeing more. -
Very very nice... crazy maneuverable... you landed in such a short space..

P.1000 Ratte (Back and bigger than ever!)

I will be impressed when you land it on the Mun. (~° ▽ °)~ -
Very impressed with your Hoenir Mk2 design... some of the things you did inside the craft was nice to see someone else do xD It is very maneuverable.. easy to take off, easy to land. The only thing I did not like was the flaps passing through the jet engines as they move... other than that. I like the Hoenir Mk2 very much..

I am also trying to create a VTOL SSTO..... it is quite tricky to get the balance right.. but I think I'm nearly getting the hang of it. -
Smallest Operational Spaceplane
KissSh0t replied to minerman30's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Spaceplane implies space.. I'm sure you could change it into a real Spaceplane.. put your thinking cap on and get back in that hanger~! -
The last engine place is the first to flame out always?

Minmus is fun to land on because of it's gravity~ -

Hey guys~ I've updated the original post with more images and shared 4 different types of SSTO aircraft for people to test out~ Keep The SSTO Aircraft Coming!~!~!~!~! -

SSTO Type 25 Ghost Mk3 - Craft File >> http://www./?9jimo9yprledxlv Yay~ I finally did it.. I landed an SSTO aircraft on another planet without killing the Kerbal or damaging the aircraft!! I landed on Minmus. Although due to my impatience I didn’t refuel in orbit “I don’t have a re-fuel satellite yetâ€Â.. and in turn run out of fuel before I had completed the deceleration of Minmus. I have used Infinite fuel to do just the deceleration and landing on Minmus.. although if I had refueled I would have been able to do that legitimately and return to Kerbin under it’s own power. Flight instructions.. mmm. On takeoff get to about 80m/s then turn on the vertical jump jets to bump yourself off the ground, then turn them off as soon as you are airborne… I forget the action group for these.. just check in the action groups section to see what I have set them as before taking off. Fly to 20km then level out, turn off the normal get engines with action group (2), then go for speed until 30km, then shut down the two outer jet engines with action group (3) then continue to as close to 40km as you can and use the nuclear or the side rocket engines to get you into orbit… I forget the action keys for each. : > I'm not 100% happy with this aircraft so I think I'll do a Mk4 version and try improving upon it. -

SSTO Type 25 Ghost Mk3 I finally made this aircraft work! xD Yay no more tumbling on re-entry~ It needs a little bit more tweaking before I can share it... although I must say this is one of the easiest to fly SSTO aircraft I have created. -

Ughhhhh... Soooooo... still testing.. Previous iteration tumbles on re-entry.. *headbutts desk*.... going for a setup I'm pretty sure works *fingers crossed* Testing the fuel drain before putting wings on. -

Having the main tanks coming out sideways from the center of mass is one way to combat weight shift as fuel drains... but your problem is that those Fuselage parts contain fuel. You could build it so it's tighter in closer to the center of mass. Here is something I've been fiddling with today, to show you Fuel Tank Placement. I am using mostly the Structural Fuselage... they contain no fuel so no weight shift, although the 4 that look like Structural Fuselage parts near the center of mass in the inner part are Jet Fuel Tanks. So 4 Jet Fuel Tanks and 4 FL-T800 Fuel Tanks... Which gives you quite a lot of fuel. Another thing to note is Fuel Lines.. Each side of the craft is separate from one another, and each side of the craft has fuel lines running from the middle going outwards, and then from the outside inwards. You can test how fuel drains by sitting it on the runway, putting the breaks on then burning the fuel and watching what drains from where first and if it drains evenly on each side. -

10 to 12 air intakes... pfffffttttttt.. That is not air hogging. Nice dinky design.. very nice. Lol'd at the one kerbal at the start.. he was freaking out.. -

You could try making an SSTO similar to Harv? While not the best design... it does get Kebals up there... Harv land it on the moon or I will hurt you. -

@ Narcosis Very simple.. but very nice.. I like the air intakes connected to the Jet Engines.. that is good. @ Captain Sierra You should call it Teeny Tiny.. ahahaha xD -
