OK! After some minor (and fortunately, short-lived) whole-computer-crashing shenanigans getting all my old configs to work, everything seems to be running properly for the moment.

Galileo's Planet Pack Workshop
CatastrophicFailure replied to JadeOfMaar's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
@JadeOfMaar Did a very brief check of the config you posted in the OP for antennas, doesn't seem to work. I hyperedited a probe into Leto orbit with an RA-100 (and great big RTG), immediately lost contact. IIRC range in the VAB was showing a tick under 1Tm in 6.4x. With ResearchBodies installed, I have no idea how far Leto actually is. -
So... Upgrading from the pervious GPP version, do I need to delete anything or do anything else funky first, or just copy the new folders over the old ones? (Backed up my entire game folder already)

You have NO idea how many holes I've put in the walls out of frustration because of the exact same thing!
-
. . . Nope, I don't want to know!
-
Some people just have to get the last word. Reminds me of Mel Brooks & Leslie Nielsen in Dracula: Dead & Loving it.
-
I'm not entirely sure what this "Grannus" thing is, but by the sound of it, at 6.4x I won't be seeing it any time soon, anyway.

@sevenperforce Welp, whatever the (nonexistent) details, it would appear they're a lot closer to second stage recovery than anyone thought.
-
Second this. The new RD-180 is a great example. Awesome engine, but clusters of two just look... odd.
-
*shrugs* All I know is what I've seen in their videos, a Dragon heat shield under the payload adapter, legs, and IIRC superdracos in addition to the Merlin/Raptor. An empty second stage is pretty light, I imagine I would slow down very quickly, maybe avoiding some thermal stress.
-
The second stage adjusts its course so that perigee ends up over the equator in Africa about 20 minutes after SECO. Not totally sure with F9, but I know it's fairly normal for some launchers (like Atlas) to actually reach apogee and start dropping slightly while still burning to orbit. Pure speculation here, but I'm guessing the coming upgrades for the F9-B5 might save enough mass to make it possible. That, and IIRC they might put one of the new methane Raptors on it, maybe all together that's enough to make up the difference. This is exactly how the planned crew Dragon will land... eventually...

Galileo's Planet Pack Workshop

Interesting... Ok, I'll put it on the list, but I can't possibly get to checking it out until this weekend, and that's after getting the main GPP update working, too. -
Buried in one of those NSF threads, last I saw was that at least one had landed in the ocean, and they had photos of it. Beyond that I dunno.
-
Until it is rather soft and runny.
-
I guess that's my answer right there.
-
So... no word on attempted fairing recovery. Not all that surprised, I wonder if it was just like the earliest "half-landing" attempts, where there's no intent to recover, they just took steps to get the fairings down to the surface intact? Testing the glide system, maybe.
-
Ditto.
-
It may take a few days but you bet your sweet booster they'll be publishing the recoding.
-
There it is! Dat sunset, doe! Evening came, and morning followed... a new day.
-
Lookit those grid fins glow with reentry heat!

GO GO GO!
-
Woohoo! That extra half hour on the launch time puts it right on my lunch break. Out in the truck, got my iPad thru the stereo on Bluetooth, speakers up, and FLARP MY LOOMING DATA LIMIT! Here's one for the history books! in a good way. Hopefully.
-
Can I be a nudge here and ask for specifics? Like, what are we talking, here, lost contracts? Lost vessels? My PC suddenly transmogrifying into a Mac?
