  1. I gave up consoles to play KSP. Really. I was a big Xbox 360 fan and loved it but KSP got me back into PC's. I've been able to skip this generation of consoles with no regrets. But if KSP on consoles gets younger people into science maybe it would be worth it. I'll be waiting for KSP 2 or whatever is coming..
  2. Steam says 1226 hours. However, some of that, not all, but some is keeping MapSat running all night orbiting and mapping a planet every time a new patch came out. I'm looking at you Moho...
  3. That is a fine piece of engineering and execution. Well done..
  4. I like lots of biomes if I'm going to land. Seems any soil sample should have value. EVA in orbit, not so much. For my first landing I try to be close enough to 2 biomes so I can get 2 samples by jet packing (or on Minmus just landing nearby) But some of them are challenging to get to canyon included. The poles are rewarding to me. So I like having those but I also like having specific craters their own biome. Maybe we don't have to "collect 'em all" but you could with a science station, a base, rovers, etc, instead of another one shot mission. Personally I can't wait for more biomes, so I don't get stuck at Mun/Minmus so long because I know Duna doesn't have as much.
  5. I too used a couple to see what would happen if mounted on top of a couple SRB's. On separation, it was quite spectacular to see the spent solids race ahead of the rest of the rocket. Haven't incorporated the into a better working design though.
  6. Agreed. Line of site is important but unless you have OCD tendencies and are good at orbital mechanics, you don't have to put your comm network in precise orbits. Just put up more! And if you can't get your first Comsat in orbit, you can always have a Kerbal put a few up. IMHO, Deadly Reentry isn't that hard either, you just need to pay attention to how you re enter. And accept that for the most part only things with heatshields will survive.
  7. Absolutely, it was really fun to watch and listen in on the inner workings of this game we all love. Most all of the mathematics was beyond my studies (or recollection) but who knew I might actually learn or be inspired to learn from a video game with green snack eating beings?
  8. Go to your tech tree and find the parts. They are in the middle somewhere. Click on the individual parts to make them available in the VAB. I think it's part of the future money or more research so you may have to "buy" or research each individual part.
  9. Is there a way to adjust the "sea level". My wife likes a pink Mun, but I'd like to tone it down a bit.
  10. Trying out the newest mapping mod in town.. Thanks to damny for putting the work in. Check out his thread here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55832-PLUGIN-PARTS-WIP-SCANsat-terrain-mapping Biomes too. Here's a partial Mun
  11. At last, my map of Moho is complete. Now to build something that could actually explore it.... My other maps... http://imgur.com/a/6dyHc
  12. Ok, thanks. That might do it for now. I'll have to check it out
  13. Yes. That's kind of what I'd like to see eventually. A comprehensive science report in the research center. But in the meantime, I'm just wondering if anyone has found that list, if it exists.
  14. I like the post mission summary with the total science gained. Is there any way to look at this information while in the space center to see your "achievements"? Or is it saved anywhere at a text file at this point? I haven't poked around in the files yet and I'm not sure if this has already been discussed. It just would be cool to know what has been researched out to the max to plan another mission. And to go way out on the wish list, how cool would it be to look at Bill & Bob's science results?
  15. Yep, you can retrieve him, provided you have the skills. Send up an unmanned capsule and have him EVA over to the empty capsule. This may be awhile, since you will have to rendezvous which is an art in of itself. (Or you can download Mechjeb for some help). The Stayputnik allows you to have missions without running the risk if stranding or killing your Kerbals! Hope that helps.
  16. As stated a few times in the past 100 or so posts, we need to know which version you are running before offering help. If you got it from Spaceport, chances are you have the 3.3.4 version which is possible to get running but you will need to ask someone more clever than me to make it work or search out the answer in this forum. Although it has it's own issues, I'd suggest you get the 4.0 dev version available from the authors blog. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/entries/414-0-20-Dev-build-of-Mapsat-4-available-and-blog-update That said, I spent the evening reading/skimming the past 100 or so posts to solve my own issues. With the exception of some fascinating information about copyright laws , it would be useful to somehow sticky some of the information for the people just discovering this plugin. My very short memory can recall 4 things that I got out of the past posts... In no particular order... 1. Fix your hilo.dat file. Also turn on auto update, I adjusted mine manually as well. 2. Clean out your artifacts.dat of duplicate entries. You can use a script found here in the forum or just manually delete any duplicate entries. 3. As is, the combination of KSP & ISA Mapsat dev 4 will use lots of memory, so use other parts, mods and plugins at your own risk. Again, more info in this forum. 4. For all versions, look for the compass button in the lower left corner to bring up the Mapsat menu. Hope that helped. This is one of those mods that isn't quite plug and play but it does work provided you put some effort into it and have a little luck. It works as good as any game in beta does.
  17. Excellent report! I was excited to read in KSP weekly about the science experiments coming. It's pretty clear we can do quite a few experiments if we just use some imagination or actually apply some high school geometry!
  18. Started sometime in March/April on .19 and have 621 hours in. However, that does include many nights with mapsat going overnight for nearly every planet and moon.
  19. Ack, is this thread still going? At least we don't have to worry about the game we all bought. It is being developed independently and we are all in on the final product. I'm still excited about that, not to mention watching the evolution too. No sense in worrying about what may or may not be.
  20. Uhh, there would be no more mods, internet required to play, paid upgrades for new rockets, parts, etc, shall I go on? I'd rather go buy another copy right now than really think about it. But since you asked, I would see nothing but doom. Simcity is a fun game but in it's current state it's in worse shape than an old build of KSP and I paid $60 for Simcity. Taking this game to EA would get it to more people and other platforms, IOS, console but at a huge cost. Not really worth thinking about at this point.
  21. Actually not too bad. The separation sequence frame rate is a little slow at first, but after they go their separate ways I don't notice a difference with my regular saves.
  22. Created a new save just messing around to see how many orbits I could create after initial craft explodes. The most entertaining was sending it toward the Mun and watching the trajectories. Some hit it, some free returned back to Kerbin to orbit or impact, and some escaped Kerbin's SOI. I named it Kinetic Space Weapon, but only succeeds in polluting the orbital environment. 23. I am really digging it. The more variety in the terrain, the more reason and excitement to explore. Hope they apply it to some of the other worlds too!
  24. Thanks for the report! I've wanted to check that out myself but Moho is tough enough just to get to let alone the poles. That really is dark. Care to share a picture of the vehicle that got you there?
