Editor bug with fairings
Theriss replied to Vindelle_Sunveam's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Sorry I didn't include that, but my computer isn't hooked up to the Internet right now, so I can't upload a file quite so easily... I'll copy what I can by hand, but I apologize it's not ideal. When I hit alt+f12, the debug says "[Exception] InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object" In the output log, I found where it says the same thing, followed by: at System.Linq.Enumerable.Last[FairingXSection] (IEnumerable`1 source) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at ModuleProceduralFairing+|□.Movement () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 The "|□" in the second line are symbols I can't recreate on my phone. First one is a double ended arrow, pointing up and down. It bears noting that this happens after grabbing and placing the fairing a couple times. Sometimes after only a couple times, sometimes after several. Looking again, the section of my output log is exactly the same as in Gristle's post above, except for slightly different values after "SetupFSM" Again, I'm so sorry that I can't conveniently upload the files for you to look at. I hope this was able to give you enough information anyway. -
Editor bug with fairings
Theriss replied to Vindelle_Sunveam's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I just today got the nest version (I was still on 0.90) and of course immediately tried using the fairings, and immediately got the same bug. I attached and closed a fairing in the VAB, then I couldn't edit any parts. I could still flip through the part lists or right click existing parts, but I couldn't move or place new. Has anyone found a way to fix this? -
Bumping this for myself. I used to be super into boats, doing a Kerbal Regatta challenge and attempting a boat trip around the world, but I haven't played in a few months and I'm a bit behind in updates. I'll definitely give this one a go. I really want to get back into boating in KSP. :3 This is my first successful speedboat from I think about a year ago, the Waterbug.
-
On a side note, I just went through and looked at all of my KSP screenshots, and I noticed that a few from the Regatta actually show a speed higher than the 222.1 m/s I listed as my top speed. I think that may have just been the top speed for my successful round trip, not the failed ones. It's only a couple m/s difference, so I won't bother fussing about it. Just thought I'd mention it.

I think this would be fun to try
-
Yup, I read through the thread. A few months ago, boats were really my thing in KSP. (see http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24340-Build-the-fastest-boat and http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/25016-In-search-of-Ferdinand-Magellan) I usually don't use mods, so I've got some experience taxiing to the shore. I decided to stop doing boats when I started playing again, but finding this challenge makes me want to try again...
-
What's this? Another boat challenge? Ugh, I thought I was done with boats... sigh... I guess I'll have to hop back in the water again...

Wait, I have a point named after me? HA! Yeah, it's been a while since I've been here, but I am getting back to playing more now. Not sure if I'll do boats again though... Yeah, that point is pretty appropriate... That's about where I crashed I actually made it a bit farther than that, but oh well. -
My question to that one, does it survive that speed? or is this a screenshot just moments before the whole thing exploded? There was nothing in the rules that said that wasn't allowed, but it does look questionable...

hey, sorry. School ended for me and I am now at home, with pretty crappy internet. I might still be able to try doing this, but I won't be able to stream it at least until the fall. I was using wing connectors and tail connectors as floats (they look very much like pontoons) and i did also try using the ram air intakes. I never was able to get anything to work, and I'm trying to avoid having to stage. I dunno. Maybe I'll try some more, but I feel like I would have to rethink my entire approach... -

then how... my current design has 13 engines and i think 3600 fuel capacity, and i can barely break 70 m/s... -

Theriss replied to Kerbies_are_my_Minions's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
how many engines and how much fuel were you carrying? i can't seem to find that balance... i add more fuel, it gets too heavy. I add more engines (or less fuel) and it runs out way too fast -

It's coming, I think I'm just working on balance now. Although I can't seem to be able to get nearly the speed you guys have, or even the speed I had before... -
This challenge makes me think of this....
-
can rover be rocket propelled? Must it move on its own power? Does it have to be on Kerbin, or any other specific celestial body? Must it stay on the ground? Does it need to use the rover wheels? does it need to be manned? This would be a fun challenge to do, but your rules are incredibly vague.
-
You should probably read the Challenge Submission rules, and then start a new thread for that, if there isn't one already. (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24898-Challenge-Submission-Guidelines) Explain the rules, and have your own submission, please.

What do you think this thread is?
-
http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24340-Build-the-fastest-boat It's been done. record on that thread so far is 236 m/s. (i'm in second with 222 )

can't quicksave while moving, and I wasn't going to stop until I needed to. Trying to think of a boat redesign now... any ideas/suggestions? -

Also, I will begin streaming my attempt at about 2 pm Eastern Time, so a little more than two hours from now, over at twitch.tv/theriss. It's obviously going to be a long stream, so any time you want to stop by is great ^^ Good job to Kerbies_are_my_Minions for his run! I stopped by to watch briefly. Makes me nervous about how I will do.... couple questions. what was your top/average speed? how often did you have to stop and refuel, and why did the docking mess with your total distance traveled? also how did you cross the land portion? (I just want to know what to expect for my trip ) -
236? Dang. at least I had the top spot for a little bit nice design. looks more jet than boat, but at least it isn't up on stilts.

Theriss replied to Kerbies_are_my_Minions's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
if the jets tend to tilt the boat forward, then logically you should have the COM towards the back of the boat. It depends a lot on balance and size and everything else, so it will take a bit of fiddling, but when you're sitting still in the water you should be tipped back, nose up, several degrees. -
Before the forum rollback, I had entered into a challenge called the Kerbal Regatta, so here is the stuff from that attempt. I raced around the island near KSC and back, but since this is purely for the fastest boat, I will only show my top speed. This is my boat, the Waterbug 3, at the waters edge before the race. And here it is at its top speed: If you can't see, that says 222.1 m/s Not the fastest boat there was before the rollback, but it's pretty fast now Here's a video of the Regatta challenge, now moot unless the thread is remade:
