The whole point of a LANTR is to increase the thrust of your rocket when you need it, and then switch of the LOX flow to increase Delta-v.

Basically, it can increase your TWR if you don't feel like waiting so long during a burn but at the cost of lower efficiency. You can turn the more powerful engine of to save fuel.

I usually go by gut-feeling when placing chutes. When landing on Duna however, its heavily recomended to use a combination of chutes and retro-rockets.

Exactly, if your chutes don't brake you till ~5m/s you have to use a little burn during last meters

Usually i use a very high quantity of mod, but only in a saves where i made test and crazy things. In my ""real"" saves i play full stock
