  1. Please son. Sit down and let me tell you the tale of the 34 minute Joolian intercept burn... TWR is irrelevant once in space. It's just how much your patience can hold at that point.
  2. I'm gonna do multiple ones because I have a lot of derps. 1.) Forgetting to put any docking ports on a 100 ton ship launched single-piece to orbit. Ah, Space Tug One. You were a dumb vessel from the start. 2.) Forgetting to any sort of charging mechanism on a ship meant to go unmanned to Jool. 30 minutes getting an intercept (this was back when I sucked at incercepts) and then almost immediately ran out of battery. 3.) Launching a 25-ton Duna tug... without an engine connected to the main fuel. I blame overly ambitious part clipping for the sake of aesthetics. 4.) Launching an 85 ton station support module, again for Duna, and forgetting to put RCS on it. Made docking it really fun. 5.) Launching an Eve landing craft and realizing, once in orbit around Eve, that I'd forgotten landing legs or parachutes. I have no clue why I did that one.
  3. Bumping this for great justice. This, to me, seems like one of those mods which should be incorporated into the game at some point.
  4. I've used KW religiously (even going so far as to delete the corresponding stock parts and use KW instead) since 0.18 and I can't express how happy I am that it's been re-released!
  5. Any thoughts on building a cruiser-like craft? Something like this? Might go well with the combat parts you've added.
  6. I believe, for the sake of a LEO presence to serve as a waystation/ experimental fueling depot, NASA will either commission a station under contract with SpaceX or utilize the SLS to construct a station. At the very least, it would constitute a large unmanned satellite with limited berthing space to serve as the easiest destination for LEO space travel, and a kind of "service platform". It could be more commercial-oriented than anything. NASA is currently considering a station at the L3 Lagrangian Point using shelved ISS hardware. Now that would be a great successor to the ISS!
  7. I would be much more willing to support Elon Musk, a man with established launch architecture and an in-space presence, along with a highly functional and (so far) productive company, than a Dutchman with a decade to design and launch a self-sustaining colony on Mars. Really, it's kind of a joke. Worst case scenario, it's just a ploy to get people excited for the prospect of a mars colony, which isn't really all that bad.
  8. So I got bored while playing around with B9 Aerospace and wound up building a fully functional apartment building. (I don't know how to embed albums ) Where should I send it?
  9. I'm incredibly happy we have such a devoted development team for KSP and a large, involved fan following. I know that sometimes leads to discussions about development exploding and, to be honest, the KSP forums do have a tendency to fight over little things (comparing it to 5-6 game forums I've been a part of in my life) but for the most part I think the people have been fair to the devs. Any development-inspired hatred from the players is usually directed towards other players.
  10. Just that or was there one specific, spectacular explosion of drama that pushed the staff over the edge?
  11. People who insist on using improper grammar and spelling. Over the internet, all you have to express yourself with is your words. Why seem like a simpleton when it takes very little effort to at least try to achieve some degree of propriety in your posts? And if carrying yourself with dignity isn't important to you, future employers or even current friends/ family can see what you type online. You might as well attempt to seem literate for the sake of continuity.
  12. Hey everyone. I used to post quite a bit but have been inactive for several months now. In that time many things have changed on the forums and I've mostly been able to learn what's happened since I left, save for on one topic: Chobit-389. I know she's banned now, and I'm sure the kerbal feces hit the ventilation impeller when it happened. She had a loyal (near-rabid) following. I didn't really like her artworks and the drama she brought to the forum bothered me more than once, but checking the thread was a regular routine. Still, she seemed reasonably popular and had some talent, and I'm sure was a draw for several people to check the forums. Just for the sake of satisfying my curiosity, and this thread will be locked immediately afterwards, what's the story behind Chobit's most recent and permanent banning? Again, I don't want to stir up trouble. It's just the most radical change that happened in the time I was away and I haven't been able to find an answer. Edit: This is my 8-bit post (2 to the 8th equals 256). Yay, I guess.
  13. I've already deleted the stock parts for the last three versions of KSP It's just too laggy for me to use with my old computer to do anything large-scale.
  14. My computer is so slow that if something fails catastrophically, it usually lags and stops for 1-2 seconds before anything happens. If I press the abort button in that time then it's usually a 90% chance my kerbals will be pulled away to safety instead of splattered.
  15. I don't understand why people wouldn't like this. Don't be a ridiculous purist, the console market could be vital to KSP's development future. I for one would love to see this and hope that the KSP dev team puts at least reasonable thought into porting KSP to consoles.
  16. In 0.21 it's my new functional prototype Duna transport ship the Shepard Magnificent II at 154 tons. Crew vehicle docked bringing it to its full mass. The CV was left behind on this journey for the sake of having a larger safety margin but in the future it'll be brought along. The ship sans CV, ready to depart.
  17. I've been using KW since 0.17.1 and have always loved it. I've modified the configs, fixed the little bugs and gratuitous gamebreaking annoyances (here's looking at you, 8 ton 5m fairing base), and changed it around, but I've never reinstalled it. I've never had any memory issues even with larger craft and this is from a guy with the absolute minimum specs for KSP (4g ram and awful stock toshiba graphics). I would be incredibly saddened to see KW fall by the wayside- I tried NP and was disappointed by it, however, I've yet to try its new release. I hope it's updated or something similar like it is created, I love the sensible way parts are organized in it.
  18. In anticipation of 0.21, I finally got rid of sent Bill off on his very own special mission. It took me 15 minutes IRL to make him escape the solar system I'm glad I'm not rusty after taking a month's break. OH GOD I'M SORRY BUDDY That last picture didn't happen, move along. Here you can see how ridiculous the rocket was. The debris in the sky was shrapnel from spontaneous and catastrophic unplanned disassembles. Leaving Kerbin, all 40 fins along for the ride. Time for the small NERVA stage! Wait Bill no Bill no, you're not riding it bull-style into Jool Bye bye Jool, hello deep space I was only trying to make Kerbin orbit I swear *sob*! Goodnight sun.
  19. Wow, I'm sorry guys. I've completely dropped off the forums for a month now- I'm just picking up KSP again! I'll submit my completed entry when I can do it in 0.21, which I'd imagine is soon.
  20. Everything in the universe exists somewhere, it's just a matter of scale. If Kerbals exist and are ten thousand billion million trillion lightyears away, it's as if they don't exist. The universe is infinite in size.
  21. 1.) As the delivery of a two-man base takes only one launch, I can do quite a bit with a small amount of launches. 2.) Hopefully, I'll get together a Mission Report of the entire thing. The Nominal plan of mine, essentially, doubles everything I plan to do- I'm waiting until I accomplish the Minimal plan first though! 3.) Launch, delivery, and landing of a base takes one launch, and the base can technically carry two crew while in transit (though it feels kinda cheaty to do it that way). I was actually planning on having all the crews stay on until they take off and just flying the two ships back simultaneously (or as closely as possible), so I can have up to 8 kerbals on Duna if I carry out the full Nominal plan. My problem is that delivering a lander/ ascent vehicle takes two launches, so regardless of how many Kerbals I want to bring to Duna I need two launches for the ship and lander/ ascent vehicle alone. Because I use direct-to-Duna launches for the most part, instead of your compound payload+tug style, my initial score is very high for a low initial investment, but long term you'd beat me as the minimum requirements for me are almost the same as my maximum capacity for infrastructure (minimum= 3 launches, maximum= 5 launches for one plan) meaning that my resupply missions are pretty much the same size as my original mission. 4.) The dV requirement isn't a big deal for me: the lander/ ascent vehicle has something along the lines of twice the dV needed to ascend and a Launch Escape Mechanism (I'm really screwed if I need it however) and the ship should have at least 1.2x the minimal dV to get to Duna and back, even if I lug the lander/ ascent vehicle there one way. I'm going to get all the pictures and things tomorrow, most likely. Minor engineering issues still exist in the bases and landers (courtesy of KSP's wonderfully titchy physics) so I'll get those worked out on Kerbin first- this isn't my first rodeo, so to say.
