Top Gun AI - The Official Tournament Thread
RuBisCO replied to RocketTurtle's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I did experiment with the idea but decided not to submit because it breaks the spirit of the tournament but basically I made a design that simply runs away, and can remain in powered flight for 30 minutes, long after the competition have run out of fuel. So one plane would be bait and the other would simply fly away to outlast the competition, winning by default. I don't know if the rules need an addendum to prevent that because it is an obvious *blank* move. -

Its very easy to dodge missiles, the problem is you need a very fast high T/W craft OR you need to set Steer factor very low so the plane does not loss speed maneuvering, but the AI is so limited at this time that it won't adjust the steer factor in accordance to dodging missiles vs attacking, so if the steer factor is set low you plane will lack the maneuverability to attack, especially with cannons. -

I updated one of my xiphos. Also when starting out a match it best to edit the save so that all planes start at once by making pilotEnabled = true. Thus no plane as a start advantage/disadvantage. I'm done, I got no more time to dedicate to this, off to work. -

Yes it is certainly a muse. Yes this is important, because I been testing them by taking off 100 m apart in opposite directions, Style A configuration. -
Machines are getting smarter, so its a topic that will be more and more on peoples minds, that and automation:

Yeah I had to completely redesign my Xiphos for MarsRocks. That and the altitude limit. -

The flight computer is in inside behind the pod. Also I accidentally left the pod fly wheels and mono-propellant, please download the latest version. -
It was alright, did anyone notice who was testing who in those chapter title cards?

I did this a long time ago as tribute to LADEE mission.

[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
RuBisCO replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
So I was testing some very asymmetric combat scenarios. The AI needs a stand-off distance setting, maybe one particular to each kind of weapon, like 2 km for AIM120, 500 m for AIM9 and 50 m for guns/cannons. The AI needs variable minimum speed setting as well. In short when a large-fast fighter goes up against a small-slow but nibble fighter the fast fighter tries to maneuver in close like it was also small-slow and nimble, and gets utterly destroyed. There needs to be a way to program a fighter to stay high and fast, swoop in, fire missiles and fly away, turn around when far and repeat, it should only go to cannons and close in fighting if it has no missiles. I tried playing around with the altitude settings but this resulted in the big fighter not willing to pitch down enough to lock its weapons on the small fighter. Really need to change the minimum altitude setting to no treat that limit as if it was the ground. ...Did you make snarking noises when you typed that? Anyways the point is the the weight needs to be reduced way WAY down. It took less then a minute. http://www./download/q9672i2dlg08s65/browninganm2.cfg -

CreativeCombat, I really think you should start a new thread for this tournament as opposed to the single plane "Top Gun AI" I'll put up the latest versions of my Xeric and Xylidine. -

Well I changed the .cfg file for the 50 cal to have the same weight as an M2 Browning. I'll see how well that improves performance with my own "testing". I was wondering about hosting tournaments. But I need to know things first: 1. Is there a way to get the game camera to only see from the perspective of active ships, not debris? 2. How do I get the camera to view from a point rather then from the ship? 3. Is there a way to get the camera to switch from ship to ship automatically, say on a timer? Need to test video recording software for linux as well. -

Can someone explain to me why the new 50 cal weighs so much? a M2 Browning weights 38 kg, not 270 kg! -
Top Gun AI - The Official Tournament Thread
RuBisCO replied to RocketTurtle's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Going to need to make points for the new fix 50 cals, the weight on them is all wrong though, they should weigh 0.038 not 0.28, and they definitely do less damage then the Vulcan, even 6 of them does not bring down an opponent as fast as one Vulcan. I would say 1-2 point per 50 cal machine gun same for the ammo can. So say 5x2 50cal guns and 2x1 50cal ammo for a total of 12 points verses 13 points for 1x7 vulcan and 1x4 20mm ammo. -

I like this idea! If your going to host you need to video record it, so you need the software for that and a machine that can record and play two teams against each other. You should make another thread for this derivative AI tournament, Call it "Top Wing AI" or something, teams of two craft, 150 parts total, 120 points total via the points system establish here.
