  1. Having no mods improves synergy with the community. How can you do a challenge when people have some better parts in their mods? How can you donwnload a craft file without getting annoyed if it isn't stock parts? Also I refuse to play with modded parts that should be in the game. It's the devellopers job! Don't tell me to use something someone created for free when it fills the gap for something I already payed for! I want to hear "the devellopers should add x" instead of "you should use mod x" when someone has a problem!!!
  2. Vehicle switching does not always work. Tray going via tracking station.
  3. If you want to have kerbals in a rover/whatever hanging to a ladder, make sure they have something above their head, it will prevent them from wobbling off. Landing gear has lights that are very bright and do not consume power.
  4. Your initial problem was that you used the worst fuel tanks. Regular fuel tanks have a 720fuel/mass unit ratio while oscars have only 382,33per and octagons are even worst with 73,529. Stick with regular tanks.
  5. You need to have something above the ladder that blocks them. My design is so safe, I launched the cabin on a solid booster rocket and got back no problems. I could maybe even get my kerbols in space with that.
  6. The whole rover is just an example of what it could look like. I want to draw you attention to the "driver's cabin". It's the size of box of the small structural panels. The landing gears are completly unnesecary and just for looks. The important parts are the 3 beams, the 3 panels and the 6 ladders. Theoretically a kerbal can't even fit into it, but with a bit of fiddeling around you can squeeze him inside. I recommend always to build 2-seaters with 2 kerbals for weight balance.
  7. My basic utility rover which is very light, does not need sunlight and very stable even at speeds like 20m/s: It has 2 slots to transport kerbals to points of interest: To make the look like they are sitting is very hard, since you have to block them so they don't "wander up" the ladder while driving, so the way to get on is from below which has to be free. Also, adding them on top is very impractical. I build it especially that wide and long because you need that if you want to be able to move in a decent speed. This is not what you requested but what I found has proven to be the best thing to move kerbals around without using fuel.
  8. I must have completly overread the "no jets and wings". Where does this thread say it? Also, is nuclear engine on top of solid booster legit? Explosions are technically not staging...
  9. Do us all a favor and read the sticky on this subforum.
  10. You can basically make almost everything in stock. It's only harder since you have -no SAS, only avionics -fuel tanks with poor weight/fuel ratio (oscar is 382,33 fuel/mass compared to the standard fuel parts with all 720 fuel/mass, the round-8 tanks are even worse with only 73,529) -engines with not so good isp exept the ion (which won't get you off the launch pad though) It all comes down to how much payload you can get to orbit.
  11. You probably mean under 20 mass units get's 10 points and under 15 get's 20? Anyway, I extended my design a bit and got this: which made me go to orbit Duna with still fuel left: it's 33,79 mass units though.
  12. I submit this simple asperagus-staging craft that can make it easy into kerbin orbit: I never thought to ever use those decouplers, but most things don't want to attach to the oscar tanks. Oh, and btw, there is an avionics package clipped into the last tank of the middle stage. I just did not want to see it. Edit: Also, I find using mechjeb or some infinite charge cheats boring. It takes away from the challenge so much. I did it without.
  13. It may be small, and it looks even smaller on this screenshot, but it's stock and I brought it up without help.
  14. Spy mission: Drop off a probe with transmission equipment and power supply (wheels optional) at the second space station (in the same valley, can be more precise if you whish). You need to build a manned plane, the construction is part of the challenge. The first one back at he space station wins.
