  1. Yes, by all means it takes a lot of experimenting to get it down to pretty landings. And every plane is different. When I first built the plane I would take off vertially, and go up a few meters, try to hover, then land back down. This should give you a good feel for the plane around the stall point. Also, I'd like to see your design I'm very interested in a cargo type VTOL
  2. I do not have FAR installed, so I can't say but it might be worth it to try your design stock as it might work better. Also, my vertical engine is on the thrust centerline, right under the center of mass, with both fuel tanks draining into it. But when you fly with the horizontal engine, it uses fuel from one tank so you must balance before you attempt a landing. Also, put canards on the nose as this will greatly help your slow speed/high alpha characteristics. And it's very very hard to get your horizontal speed to 0 as you will be trying to input throttle changes, pitch, roll and yaw corrections. I wish this game allowed us independant controls of the canards, as I believe a true 0m/s landing is possible that way
  3. I built a VTOL plane, and the slowest landing I could manage was 4m/s horizontal speed. Even then the dance of stall vs not stall is tricky to say the least. I can upload the craft file if you like, it looks a lot like the F-35, which is what I was going for. Bascially you need to come in fast, and blast your vertical engine and cut your horizontal engine and flare big time. Coming in low helps because you will gain altitude here. Then level out and decrease throttle. Of course you could always cheat and put a set of chutes on it...
  4. Since update .21, I have to press 'G' multiple times before the gear actually drops. But it should be the same as pressing 'G' once. (As it was in previous versions)
  5. I think your main issue is your ship is way too large. Try a single man pod, one FL-300 tank and the nuclear engine. (I think it's called the FL-300 it's the one with 360L of fuel. You'd be surprised what you can do with just that small ship. If your main ship could push a small ship like that to an intercept with moho, that small ship could do the rest I'm sure. And try to use the Skipper engine for your transfer burn. That engine is powerful and efficient you'll only have like a 2 minute burn at most. Good luck if you're still having problems I can post some pics tonight.
  6. The reason I like Minimus is the low gravity. It's a really good place to practice landing controls. As for what it's made of I don't know but Mint Ice cream does sound nice! Maybe there's an old Hershey chocolate hot spring somewhere? I imagine we'll find out for sure when mining/resources are put in the game.
  7. Awesome Mission and amazing planes you have there. Excellent design! keep it up!
  8. Awesome! have any pics of the ship before it detached?
  9. That's exactly how the OP sounded when I read it as well....
  10. Your biggest challenge will be designing the tug to pull the station around. I have a tug that has not been fully tested as I am building the station to pull now. It's designed like so: (I'm at work or else I'd post pics) center is an orange tank with 4 structural wings(the rectangle ones) going out at 4 symmetry, at the rear. On the end of those, there are a 1440L tank with a skipper engine. On the front of the tug, there are 4 more 1440L tanks attached radially(Rotated 45 degrees from the engines, on hydraulic clamps so that they may be released incase of an emergency) These feed into the 2880L tank, and the engines draw from the 2880L tank. When fully fueled, it holds 14,400L of fuel. There is a large docking clamp on the end of the 2880L tank to attach anything, and a manned pod for torque on the front. (Although it might need more reaction wheels because when it's full of fuel it gets tough to rotate it) I also designed the launch vehicle to use the fuel from the tug to reach orbit, so you have to refuel it before use.
  11. Simply amazing stuff! Keep it coming!
  12. You can also click the left most green arrow at the top left of the screen to go from full warp to 1x.
  13. You could keep it at full screen and use Alt+Tab to switch between other windows.....
  14. Can you post a few pictures so we can see what you're working with? Have you tried exiting the game completely and reloading it?
  15. Welcome to the forums! It's always nice to see another veteran here to share his wisdom

    Hello.

Welcome to the forums! You will find plenty of helpful people with lots of knowledge to share! Enjoy
  17. Awesome mission Kaelen! I will be watching and waiting for my turn eagerly! Exciting!
  18. Welcome to the forums. You should have the ability to change your avatar and sig after your first 5 posts. Enjoy the forums! Alot of helpful folks around here.
  19. Welcome to the forums. Thank you for your service in the Armed Forces. I have so many friends in the military, I have such great respect for all of them. Good luck on all your missions. Looks like you're doing just fine!
  20. haha, Welcome to the forums Zodiak!
  21. Nobody uses the Skipper for transfer stages on large ships? It has great ISP for it's power. Also if you're trying to keep your part count/ship complexity down it's a great option. I have been using it on all my duna ships and jool system ships. Worth a try if you don't mind trashing it after you make the transfer burn and phase angle change.
  22. I have heard that Mechjeb doesn't do the best job at a rendezvous. Also I think I remember someone saying it wasn't updated for .21? Maybe a mechjeb user can chime in here as I don't use it. But it seems like you have a good plan. Remove some of those add-ons and see if that solves the issue. EDIT: IDEA! why not get your mun base ship into orbit, THEN launch your trusty refueler to dock with it!
  23. Blowing up for science!
