1. Unfortunately I don't know much about coding either. But the tools are definitely there. Kerbal Konstructs enables alternate launch sites and other features, Contract Configurator does pretty much exactly what it sounds like it does and enables missions in specific regions of Kerbin, I haven't found a good tech-tree editor yet but I'm sure there's several. Besides that it's mainly a question of taking some existing mods like RoverDude's Sounding Rockets (which I really recommend by the way), getting the creator's permission where necessary and modifying the descriptions a bit. EDIT: Okay, I've found a tech tree editor now. It doesn't work in either Mono or Wine, but at least I know it exists.
2. In the meantime... I just discovered a mod called Kerbal Konstructs. I can't tell if it supports unlocking new sites as a result of completing contracts or passing milestones yet, but even if it doesn't, we might just be able to turn this story into something like a campaign for the game.
3. Heh. Have you been reading The Next Frontier on SpaceBattles or am I just that predictable?
4. If we're talking about music, I always rather liked this one for a Kerbal theme tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJiHDmyhE1A
5. Better you than me, squire. I only got through the first volume, but I can't think of a single main character in it who was either likeable or interesting.
6. I like the idea, actually, but I'd rather the movie tone down the comedy aspects a bit and actually try for a somewhat serious exploration of Kerbal society and culture as well as a really hard-science take on getting into space. And personally, I think KSK's First Flight is a damn good candidate for a TV adaptation, if only because it's the only KSP fic I've seen so far that makes a serious effort to focus on Kerbals outside the space program. (Yes, I'm biased.)
7. There's nothing stopping you setting up a Rocket Builders forum elsewhere, you know, or running Kerbal RPs somewhere that's able and willing to host and moderate such things. The SpaceBattles forum has both a substantial KSP fan contingent and a dedicated roleplay subforum, for example.
8. I'd also like to point out that merging Fan Works and Live From Mission Control is not going to be beneficial to the fanfic writers; maybe they could have a small sub-forum of their own?
9. Liberate tutemet ex inferis...
10. Oh, hell yeah! Grinning too hard for a coherent comment, but that flag? That is just perfect.
11. Well, this should be interesting.
12. Jeb: "It's a very difficult job and the only way to get through it is we all work together as a team. And that means you do everything I say." (This happens to be my late grandfather's favourite film quote.) Hmmm. On second thoughts, that might be morte Jim's management style.
13. Reminds me of a line I cut from the climax of The Next Frontier, when Bob displays a surprising knack for hotwiring electronic locks.
14. Thanks for the shout-out, Mac! (Yes, I still check the KSP forums. I'm not very active at the moment because I don't have a PC that can actually run KSP right now.)
15. Well, we knew it was coming sooner or later, but... damn.
16. You rotten swines you, you have deaded me again! (I bet none of you get that reference.)
17. I like the combination of the original 90s version's Guile haircut with the modern remake's NATO standard "wooly pully".
18. Strong language, some rather off-colour jokes and a large amount of on-page violence near the climax. And I would again like to emphasise that Tao Master and I had a perfectly civil discussion on the subject and I bear the moderators no ill-will, so I don't want to hear about people yelling at them for just doing their jobs.
19. Thanks. Be warned, though, SpaceBattles in particular is a rather rowdy neighbourhood compared to this place.
20. Just so everyone's aware of the fact, the moderators have decided to remove The Next Frontier from this site because it contains content that's not suitable for an all-ages forum like this one. I'm not going to pretend I'm happy about this, but I have had a perfectly civil discussion with Master Tao on the issue and I can't really argue with the reasoning behind the decision. I have also not been subjected to any official sanction for -let's face it- not so much bending board rules as tying them in knots, despite the fact they have ample grounds for slapping me with a lengthy ban according to a strict interpretation of forum policy, so please let's not have any board drama over this issue. I can't link to the thread directly, but if you want to re-read the story and follow the as-yet untitled sequel, please come find me at one of the following forums: Spacebattles Sufficient Velocity Stardestroyer.net At some point there'll also be a PDF or other ebook edition, but that's a long-term project. Thanks to everyone for their advice, support and encouragement throughout the writing process of this story; it means an awful lot to me. Hope to see you all elsewhere on the internet.
21. Something tells me James Kerman's culture shock is going to get a lot worse before it gets better...
22. Guys, really. That sort of thing is exceedingly counter-productive!
23. Speaking of which, you might also try the SpaceBattles forums; those guys are thorough to the point of slightly obsessive when it comes to technical details.
24. That was my first thought when I saw the pictures on SpaceBattles.
