  1. I find the process of designing rockets more interesting than flying them. If MechJeb didn't exist I don't honestly think I'd have bought the game.
  2. Same here, only I like to think it goes many layers deeper and occasionally extends into dense cavern systems, populated with strange and terrible monsters... and deeper still, legend has it that one may find a pillar of strange and miraculous metal ore. Metal ore that carries a terrifying curse.
  3. Make a tactical withdrawl in the general direction of the nearest bar, because my landlady's going to go nuclear when she sees this mess.
  4. 19.1, though only about three weeks before 0.20 came out.
  5. MechJeb, KSPX, FAR and that one that gives your kerbals their own parachutes are the ones I really can't do without. Chatterer, the SpaceJunk cargo bays, KW Rocketry and BFT's conformal tanks are close behind.
  6. They're trying to maintain a discreet distance and observe, maybe looking into beaming an away team down to set up a monitoring station, when the prototype Kerbin orbiter crashes headlong through the shuttle bay doors and gets stuck. A rather surprised security detail bursts in to find Bob having a nervous breakdown and Bill walloping Jeb over the head with a broken off strut connector. Things just get more surreal from there.
  7. I have not the words to express how wonderful this is...
  8. I haven't got tired of the stock music yet, but if I know I'm going to be watching one symbol on the map inching towards another for a long time I'll turn the music off and fire up my laptop. I don't have any particular playlist, though; I normally just stream internet radio. I like to imagine my crews are putting their feet up on the console and doing much the same.
  9. When you spend more money than you can really spare on air-cooling equipment to keep your gaming rig going in a heatwave.
  10. Pioneer 3, my first successful Mun and Minmus lander. Not terribly original or visually exciting, but it gets the job done.
  11. I've worked out most of the backstory for mine, but it lacks an actual name as yet because I'm still working on the worldbuilding aspects, like coming up with original Kerbal nations.
  12. Now that's lateral thinking! Nice video; is that all made in-game?
  13. The Pioneer 3 lander, which is almost stock apart from MechJeb and some new separation boosters that turned out to be pretty poor and have since been replaced with regular Separatrons. More pictures here.
  14. Proof-of-concept for the technologies and methods needed to establish permanent settlements on Mars and beyond. Most of its known mineral resources can be acquired more easily down here on Earth, and if we need true microgravity for manufacturing then we might as well build the necessary facilities in near-Eath orbit.
  15. Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy is good if you want hard-SF, but some people find it a bit dry. The first volume was available as a free download somewhere at one point.
  16. I hope this isn't too far off-topic, but while I already have a serviceable KSP-worthy gaming rig (one of these), the 15-inch screen I picked up for a song in a local pawnshop is no longer adequate; I've got too many information windows getting in the way. Can anyone recommend a good 21-inch screen that costs less than £100? The option to wall-mount it would be a bonus due to space constraints, and I don't mind too much if it's VGA.
  17. It could also be a partially-terraformed (kerbiformed?) Duna.
  18. Unless you've got your heart set on playing KSP on the crapper or something, buy a desktop instead. You'll get way more bang for your buck and it won't take three hours of your life to pop the case open and blow the dust bunnies out.
  19. Any chance you could make these downloadable as an album or playlist? I can't figure out how to do it in Soundcloud.
  20. Probably simpler from an engineering perspective to fit the hatch with explosive bolts and issue individual parachutes to the crew.
  21. I'm going to have to side with Flowz0r on this. Not only are gaming laptops much more expensive than a desktop of equivalent performance, but like all laptops these days they're effectively impossible to upgrade them or replace a failed component and it's a ridiculous amount of hassle to carry out the most basic upkeep maintenance on one. That's a hell of a price to pay to be able to play KSP while you're sat on the crapper.
  22. How about requiring stock parts only to earn some or all in-game achievements, if and when Squad decide to include some? That would be one way to satisfy the purists, who can now feel smug and morally superior about not being punished for "cheating" without inconveniencing anyone else very much.
  23. Wait for the inevitable flurry of bugfix releases to subside and for my favourite mods to update, then get started on planning a manned expedition to Duna.
