You know you are a noob at KSP when your girlfriend hasnt left you because of KSP.
-
Like! Kids dont always and shouldnt need to be told to learn.
-
... and maybe an answer to your question would be to explain gravity and orbital mechanics using KSP as a prop for demonstration.
-
I was inspired and re-inspired in the same way. Thanks to KSP, i developed an addiction to the finer details of the apollo missions and and now a budding astronomer preparing for my second telescope (and and eye on #3, dont tell my wife, lol) Amazing what a little "game" can do

I am a middle school robotics teacher. From day one of the robotics program I show the students and explain a rocket launch as an example of the coolest and possibly most complex robot humans build. So I got away with loading KSP demo on my teacher laptop, and demo it to the students in hopes they may go home ang give it a go. Mind you, you dont really program the rockets in KSP (no if/then's) but it can be a complex autosequence with action groups along side. Using mechjeb is semi programmable. I will then get their minds going on gravity, show them how orbits works and basic mechanics. That is about as far as I take it, light on physics. BUT it is a great tool for problem solving and engineering. Lastly, if no one else has mentioned it to you, there is an "EDU" version in the works, collaborated by SQUAD and Teachergaming: http://www.kerbaledu.com/

I have no grievances from an overall VERY well developed software that is also very affordable. I am happy to report no pet peeves

Dont worry about it, there really is no time in space anyway. Your body will adjust. Play on (you lucky dog with no wife, kids, job, school, house.......)!

I do as best I can for clean lines, I hate asparagus, but pretty much forced to use it if you want to loft anything worthy of long manned travel into space. With that said, any more than six strapped on the first stage core is where I draw the line and will build via kerbin rendezvous. THIS WOULD MAKE A GREAT POLL!
-
And yes, use mechjeb. Despite your philisophical concerns if any, mechjeb will handle all of the repetitive things for you such as obtaining stable orbits. I am not suggesting you use the docking feature of MJ either (dont). This will allow you to spend your focus and energy on the docking aspects. Once you have mastered docking, dump mechjeb if you wish.

I cant believe how frustrating it used to be, now I cant believe how easy it is. The best thing I did was watch MANY how to videos. You will start to see common denominators in all of them, create your own understanding, and after about 5 successful dockings you will have it down to a system and it will become fun. Be persistent and it will click for you, hopefully soon.

since they say the NASA pack is a separate thing...

And with that said, if you are not a US taxpayer, then yes its free -

Its not really free, I am sure it cost us taxpayers a fortune -
The shared .23 release features news thread.

Bingo. I am surprised I had to read this far in before anyone mentioned this. I see this as the best use of the throttle limiting. Not just for shuttle type balance, but so you can arrange your motors for fuel consumption and better steering. I often will lock gimbals on some and add smaller engines to vector thrust and arrange them in inner/outer configs with asparagus staging. Often the engines used for guidance dont need to be full throttled, or sometimes they need to be the most throttled, leaving the bigger ones throttled back to conserve fuel. I always wanted this feature and Squad delivered. -
How long have you been playing kerbal space program for?
roosterr replied to FlamingPotatoes's topic in KSP1 Discussion
and funny you mention it. A co-worker told me this game was for me (he was very right), so the first thing I did was go to youTube, and found kurtjmac's first KSP video. It was hilarious, and I was hooked. -

pure coincidence, the day .16 released. -
Finally, a game for massive nerds!

I hate to rain on your parade Lando, but someone else has created what you have but in a more dynamic and interactive form here: http://ksp.olex.biz/ But, please, with all due respect, yours is a nice concise tool one can hang on the wall as a cheat sheet, and I am sure will not be time wasted.

Thanks Alamo, that is EXACTLY what I have been attempting, but for some reason cannot actually drag my craft into the slot. It is hard to line up, BUT, I Have done it, so it seems, and the entire craft gets deleted as if it were a part being dragged into the pane. Lost for good, there is no recycle bin to retrieve it. So I tried again with just on part, a capsule, it worked. SO I added a second part to the capsule, and drug it in and get an error, something like "this part is not available to be saved as a sub-assembly" or something like that. So, I stopped there in hopes someone had a tutorial for .22, NADA.
-
I could not figure out the new sub-assembly module, are there any good how-to's for .22 out there.? I did general searches and all I get is the old sub-assembly mod. I am however able to create a single part sub-assembly, but for some reason cannot save multiple part subs. And then, I saved my single part SNAFU in the spaceplane hangar, then went to the VAB to attach it for kicks, yet it was not available, as if I had no sub-assembly parts. Any help????

I cannot create my first subassembly with more than one part. It says something to the effect that the any other part i attack to the command pod is not available as a sub assembly part ????? -
Moar planets!
roosterr replied to Lundmunchkins's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
For about how long would another planet keep your attention?
