I'm sure if you strapped enough parachutes on they'd be fine... If not, you could always have some sort of detonatable shock absorbers on the bottoms of the stuff your landing. Kind of like: Parachutes, Example building, Decouplers, Structural beams acting like a pillow. Land them, then detonate the remaining crap under them.

Just got a job offer that requires me to move tomorrow. Called me up and asked me to start the next day. They provide accommodation. Great. But the laptop I use is my fiancee's and ill need to save up for a month to buy a new one (and buy KSP again) I've not been here long, but I love this game and will miss it dearly for the next month. Have fun guys. Blow some kerbals up for me.

You don't even need to go to the miniscule trouble of opening those folders any more. Literally just copy everything into your KSP main folder. And the files distribute themselves into the places they need to be on their own.

That's the worst of it in my mind... Such a great opportunity for the UK to take an authoritative stance on the space market when so far they've done bugger all and it's very likely they won't take it. The last British astronaut was about 20 years ago, sans this new guy going to the ISS soon and all their launches are done via other countries launch vehicles. It would be great to see a British firm commercially produce the engines but chances are slim on that.

Not quite, as the precooler tech was just a pipe dream back then. They have literally only just sorted it out pretty much the tail end of last year. That's partly why I'm particularly excited by it. With arguably the most difficult part of the project now having working prototypes finally, the project is in one of those tender situations where it could (A) stay in its current state of fairly slow progress and take another thirty years... Or ( some smart CEO will bite, and the project will take off [excuse the pun] exponentially.

I too would have liked it if you were the one "doing the learning" Rune. It would mean we would be much much closer to having this beautiful bird in the air (and out of it ;D). As it stands, the project obviously still has a long way to go financially and time-wise. As Drunkrobot pointed out however, once the entire engine has been built and tested fully as a single unit rather than just the precooler being tested (as amazing as it is.) I feel that will be the kick the project needs to develop the frame and indeed the rest of the bird itself. With such innovative tech I would be surprised if no airlines at all were interested in investment. Even if one were not interested in the orbital capabilities of such a craft, the ability to go pretty much anywhere on earth in less than 4hours commercially simply shouldn't be ignored.

I'm quite sure we'd still be happy to receive that kind of funding though.

Apologies Rune, the £380m figure was from a few months back. I misread.. that was the number they (at the time) needed to really "get the project off the ground." Whatever that meant. The source was BBC. In 2010 the full project number was apparently somewhere in the region of £12billion so your figure of 19 seems reasonable enough to assume its correct as far as we are likely to be aware.

I wouldn't be surprised if Branson ponied up the cash. He's done stranger things. The quoted figure is reportedly around £380m. Not in the billions like DARPAs projects. They already have the hardest part (effectively) done. That figure is obviously BS, and will no doubt rise significantly but still a drop in the water compared to other projects with as much substace as edible paper.

Coupled with the probability that the original concep was probably designed in a shed the idea is pretty fantastic. Ok, ok enough with the sheds... They do have the issue that the SKYLON plane itself, frame and all is yet to be tested at all. It could fail spectacularly. But when they have done what they have done with the engine engineering wise, what really is the likelyhood that they screw that part up? And even if they do and the frame they originally designed sucks... That engine man... It's destined for big things.

Sheds FTW. The ESA seem happy enough with the tests that HAVE been done. I can only guess that given that (within their market) everyone and their grandad knows how to build a rocket engine that that "part" of the engine that needed testing approval and was tested would be the important (and revolutionary) one... The precooler.

How much are the ESA funding them for? The engine is done and tested. That's what's been holding them back. Now that's done £££ is the only issue.

I always laugh when people discredit low buget British engineering projects simply because companies like NASA and others have failed on similar projects. British engineers have been building amazing things in SHEDS for years. If Reaction Engines get the funding they need, I'm sure they will go far.

Please move this if it should be in the craft exchange. I wasn't sure where to put it as its not a request, neither am I showing anything and being merely curious. With the B9 pack updated and adding proper SABRE engines and such, along with its beautiful cargo bays and stuff I wondered if (as the title says) anyone has built a true to life (or true to concept as its not really been built yet) SKYLON SSTO cargo plane?

No octagonal struts of any kind on my ship so I'm not sure what the issue was. I ended up just ending flight and sending a new ssto up.

Pause at 2:35 and just think, KSP might one day look like this.

Technically if you had both MechJeb and one of romfarers plugins yes its possible. Not possible stock.
