  1. Just cheat, use microphones and speakers to create an infinite feedback loop
  2. I don't think we could construct a pumping system for the water, no matter how much power we had for the task. Or it would require an entirely new method of moving water. Pumping water up a mile or more just isn't feasible. The amount of weight that would amount to, even if you were sucking it through a straw, would be ridiculous. As for the waste... sadly this was one of my gripes about Coruscant in the films. That planet isn't as bright and shiny as it likes to make people think it is. But you wouldn't know that without going down to the surface where the sun never shines, about 2 or 3 miles below the sparkly skyline. The ground level is literally a cesspool of crime and scavengers and waste management is a way of life. It's exactly as glamorous as it sounds.
  3. @_@ Whoa.... That must be SOME printer then, to manufacture beyond the melting point.
  4. They'll probably be too busy killing each other over food and water. ...or jobs. In the future people will have to fight in Thunderdome for the rare coveted chance to be a full-time burger flipper.
  5. There's a thread that either starts out making fun of Americans or evolves into it, just about every week. However...
  6. That movie turned me into a gaming maniac. Not that I expected Robert Preston to come pick me up if I scored big in "Galaxy Force." Well, maybe a little. TV shows: V. (not V for Vendetta. Just... V.) Fan trailer used because I couldn't find the original. This recently got remade by Abrams, but I'm talking about the old one.
  7. I remember seeing it when it first aired and it never completely left my head. Nearly two decades later and I could still hear the themesong in my head. Found the boxed set not long ago and watched the Apollo 11 - 13 episodes on the landing anniversary.
  8. If you're out in a field, you're guaranteed more darkness with red light anyhow. Plants absorb almost all of the red so there's minimal reflection. Well that'd be interesting. "Mood lights" on a spaceship synched to a 24-hour day cycle. Speaking of which, if any of you out there like me have had insomnia issues from working on a computer before bed, give this a try. Just be careful if you're doing artwork where color is essential. http://justgetflux.com
  9. I guess then it begs the question, is green more common now because of a defunct ideas about red, or just because visual confirmation isn't as important as it used to be? In one case though, if you weren't just staring at screens, you wouldn't want to be on the bright side of a comet while trying to grapple it. Psychologically, maybe red in space is a bad idea anyhow. Psychologically it's just more unnerving than green, which is not something you want when you have a handful of people trapped in a tin can long-term. But wasn't red often used in subs? Or is that just a Hollywood propagated myth?
  10. What kind of pressure would that put on a sub? It's a lot easier to displace air than water, and to think of how many aircraft got torn apart in those tests. Maybe I'm overestimating the power of water, but I'm thinking that building a sub that can safely explore the bottom of the Mariana trench would be EASIER than building one that could withstand Mach 1 underwater. Not really sure what the point would be if they want to use it for military purposes though. Sonar would hear that coming from half way across the globe. I'd love to see the surface chop from such a thing though. It would probably look like Godzilla taking a swim.
  11. I thought the "hell hound" was Cerberus, not Kerberos. Different locale pronunciation?
  12. Test your attentiveness. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-08-23/doctor-who-how-well-were-you-paying-attention-during-deep-breath?pb_url=radiotimes10/doctor-who-how-well-were-you-paying-attention-during-deep-breath
  13. Watch the first video link, while listening to the second one.
  14. Lovely weather for driving out there.
  15. Competition in the bean business is fierce.
  16. If all of us individually were to judge ourselves based on the worst that our race has to offer, we would all be committing suicide.
  17. That's why I said "can" not "will."
  18. Technically, if you can get it to fit all the present data, you can have a valid theory. In terms of things like the universe and the creation of the Earth, this is pretty much how it's done, since there's a very limited amount of observation we can perform.
  19. Wait wait... giant nipple what? Those are the same things that caused Martian three-legged stools to land here, right?
  20. A shadow-casting hologram no less?
  21. Leif Erikson probably got there first anyhow.
  22. The only thing like this I've heard is people saying we need to fix the mess we made on Earth before we go anywhere else. Gee, and what if the answers to fixing that mess... are somewhere else? Of course, there's always this. <<<Warning, the following video has been rated PG for simulated violence with a blunt butter knife>>>
