  1. RTG's are more efficient for your needs than solar panels + 1600 worth of batteries. Engineering is more about functionality and efficiency, without needing to bend space or time to your needs. RTG's can even be laid flat on most surfaces, in symmetry, if it is an aesthetic concern you have. Just my 2 cents, I prefer solar panels in space (mostly an aesthetic choice, rather than engineering), and RTG's for planet bound craft.
  2. Yes, hyperedit is ridiculous for instantaneous everything. Great for testing any craft on every planet, right now.
  3. Kerbal Space Program Mission 1: To the Mun! Mission 2: To the Mun to rescue your stranded kerbals. Mission 3: Learn the names of new kerbals.
  4. Kerbals: They're gonna blow up, goto space, or die trying. . .Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
  5. "Kerbal Space Program: Everyone's 2nd build contains a parachute". "Now with 25% more Guilt. I mean personality." "Warning: Contains Excessive DeltaV. Double Warning: It still won't be enough."
  6. Think you may have just started your first "Eve colony"!
  7. It should be noted that Squad has never blamed anything on anyone. We are honestly a bunch of fans having a detailed discussion trying to find better tips and answers to help alleviate these issues. There is nothing unprofessional about having a fanbase that gets into heated discussions about (usually) nonsensical moot points. This thread however, contains A LOT of helpful tips, and new players would likely benefit by being exposed to it early on. (And it could serve as a caution that nearly any thread can spiral out of control quicker than a launching rocket missing an engine.
  8. First of all, Gorgeous build. That thing would stop my cpu in its tracks! I think the suggestions here are correct however. The engines facing different directions, and being able to gimbal is likely causing confusion in the controls.
  9. When you see orange fuel shooting out in liquid form during launch, and when it explodes into toxic orange smoke you think "Hey that color looks familiar! Uh oh."
  10. I have a pretty damn slow AMD 2.1Ghz with a 1gig radeon 6450, and the performance on everything made after 2011 is ACTROCIOUS. KSP is unplayable if I do not lower the physics Delta to 0.03. Its bad enough that lowering ALL of the graphics options to minimum, does not equal the performance increase of lowering the physics alone.I also must clean boot to get decent framerate out of it. Firefox, Skype . . .ANY of those open will cost me 15 frames/sec. I have a moon base consisting of 3- 70 part landers and a 200 part "Base" (heheh, actually 2- 140 part dual landers that split, and one of em didnt make it "snip, clip, tumble, tumble, smack, boom". So one lander arrived alone.) I experience lag there, even on a clean boot. Honestly, I just kinda stopped going there because it was annoying. Anyway (I tend to ramble), lower the physics, and use the task manager to close everything that is running in resident memory: daemon tools, poweriso, spybot, skype, web browser, realplayer, windows media player. . .All of those types of programs can be closed to inch evermore power for KSP's physics. It's not unreasonable for this to be the case. If Squad says "Okay, We've got the system. and it's AWESOME. but if you make us iterate it 700 times simultaneously, there is likely to be a performance decrease." We would all look incredulous and say "Duuh, that's obvious."
  11. dude, that (the russian crash) happens the first 3 or 4 times i test every launcher/lander i have ever conceived . The only problem is that was apparently their first or second launch. Let him go back to the VAB and add some headlights. . .THEN it will work perfect!
  12. i sure see a lot of these "new ASAS is amazingly improved in .20.2", still waiting for my psychological profile to catch up to the reports tho. doesnt mean youre not all correct, just means my lack of trust causes me to cancel before confirmation can be accredited. So it is up to ME to adjust. . . I'm ON IT. Bravo team MOVE!!!!
  13. GREAT thread! " ummm, so i'm kinda still working on this engineering side of it, but ummmm. . . I THINK this is gonna work!. . . ready fellas!!?" Adorable kerbal: "DAMN RIGHT IM READY!, LETS GO! WHOOO-HOOOO!" BAWOOSH! Kabloom! "Okay, perhaps another strut! DONE!" Ready for try number two boys? Adorable Kerbal number 2: "Damn right!!! lets go!!!" Me: "Damn i love you guys". Zoooom, BAWOOSH! BOOOM! Me: "Okay. . .another strut. Good luck fellas!"
  14. you will need to calibrate your joystick through its program, or even the built in windows app in the control panel. When it asks for the throttle inputs, map them how you like, you can select 0%-100% instead of the default +50/-50 because some games have a reverse throttle function.
  15. A 10 from the American judge! I know people hesitate to write in depth posts like this for fear of being reprimanded or ridiculed by other forum users, but personally, this is why I come here and check the threads constantly. To find gems of a story like this, and unconventionally in this universe: A Happy ending!!! Yaaay!
  16. Jeb: "Throttle: Check, Staging: Check. Okay ASAS, we're ready to liftoff!" ASAS: "Sure. . .*hic!* Gimme just one second *buurp*" Jeb: "ASAS! Have you been drinking!!?" ASAS: "Naaaaah. . .Whaaaaaaaa? Psshhhhh *hic!*"
  17. You know you play too much KSP when, on your umpteenth mission to Jool you find yourself complaining that 100000x time acceleration is just not fast enough.
  18. danny is the best pure humor/entertainment KSP filmer. If you watch some of his other stuff, you will learn that he can fly the hail out of a plane also. Love that he communicates everything thru text and elevator music, too. Bravo!
  19. I too started learning COnstruct 2 recently. Very nifty, simple game making software. Literally drag and drop. Couldnt be more user friendly! (Well, maybe if it had a LUA scripting plugin/interface)
  20. "Clutch" is a common American term used in sports, indicating last second ability to come through "In the clutch". (Bottom of the ninth/Final minutes of a basketball game) I also was unable to kill my horizontal velocity upon landing on eve one time. Just knicked the ground but instead of nothing being damaged, it tumbled HARD, destroying every single piece of equipment except the lander. Those kerbals are still there also, because instead of planning a rescue mission I decided that would be the beginning of my eve colony. So they will likely never come home, but now they have lots of company(and a rover).
  21. I've read a couple of threads where people mention popping the tires on their rover, and it sounds like a terrible thing. So I thought I'd pop in and mention to anybody who is not aware: Kerbals in EVA can fix your rover tires. (However, they CANNOT re-attach them after landing far too fast. . .Not that I'd ever need to try that. . .*cough cough*).
  22. Man, this title took 3 years off my life. My soul died a little bit as the thread unfolded!
  23. I must admit your passion and dedication to improving, is inspiring whackjob. You've really taken to this game and community, Kudos!
  24. Soooo, you've never been to Eve? If not, you should. It is quite gorgeous and unique. Getting back; now thats the hard part. I am also wondering why you would expect the framerate on eve to be 1/5th fps, I have no abnormal lag trouble when visiting?
