  1. My method for Jool determines how i deal with where to call home when visiting. Basically I point my final approach as close to Jool as I can. This way I can get multiple captures as I tear through the system, using Jool and Layth to aerobreak and keep me in the system, then finding a capture I can slide into orbit with. So yeah...Tylo was my first jool home... by accident more then design... but I got there dammit... DON"T JUDGE ME Alacrity
  2. My skills are equal to almost and target... it kinda falls apart when figuring trajectories, flight window and such.... i use AloT of fuel to complete al lot of missions... Alacrity
  3. OP Update. Bothersome - Great job on the mission and way to be on the ball for the last minute rescue flight. Rosarium - I need a mission file to award points... But those rovers are the awsome. YarTheBug - Great mission. You get the points for the landed kerbins at Eeloo, and pts for all the Kerbals returned to Kerbin surface You get a technocracy score for Deadly rentry (+20 points - we're here...now what ... Deadly Re-entry counts as a thing to do as "ohmy god we're all gonna die") Thanx for the entries... keep them coming and I would love to see some Mod heavy space programs put up something. Alacrity YarTheBug - Great mission. You get the points for the landed kerbins at Eeloo, and pts for all the Kerbals returned to Kerbin surface
  4. Recently completed the Spy Satelite Challenge... and had what i will call my standard face palm moment. scenario: Completed that challenge and was prepping for my orbital decel and landing... fired up the final engine, applied a little thrust, and ....... wait for it... *SPACEBAR*. No reason, wasn't panicked, or in trouble. Didn't need to do any special maneuvering... just burn engine till over desired landing, then parachute and drop the tank. But no... Bill painted the damn space bar red... and Jeb couldn't stop himself. With the small ammount of thrust still on for that engine it and the tank were pressed against the capsule, so with a bit of carefull rolling I was able to keep it there and still use it to decel into a somewhat usable landing pattern, then shake it off, but by then the panick had set in... and insult with injury is nothing so for a cherry on top... the kas cables i now had no chance to control whipped in crazy orbits and eventually landed a grappling hook on my heat shield and ripped it away. The crazy starts about 13:45 Alacrity
  5. My first challenge and I figured I would make it a big one. Eeloo or Bust The actual challenge is easy while requiring a lot of work to complete. Get to Eeloo. That's it. Take a Kerbal to Eeloo. This is a chance to max out your challenge meter with all the mods you love to play, or the complete lack of them. Launching a mission with the best plan you can get together on your favorite save. This is a chance to show off all the prep work you have put in. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Eeloo The Rules Even simpler. 1. Can't use Hyperedit, ORDA, debug... anything that auto alters cfg's, changes the physics and the like. 2. Use everything else. This is a challenge to do with your favorite save with all your favorite add on's. All your orbital stations, prebuilt rocket designs, barely flyable spaceplanes, MechJeb, Kams, Kat, and maneuver nodes. 3. You can take as many vehikles as you like in any configuration, but their can be only one manned flight for landing on Eeloo. SIGN UPs The few, the proud, the modless - The list for those souls who love the Stock Game. 1. Mesklin - 1480 2. Death Engineering - 880 3.bothersome - 655 + 50 (100 per doing it - 50 for needing it) Rescue Mission bonus = 705 4.Blue -612 5.Stochasty - 425 6.YarTheBug - 375 The Technocracy - The not modless 1.Hejnfelt - 12745 (that is Alot of kerbals) 2.YarTheBug - 2160 (First to do Fries with that achievment) 3. 4. 5. Points. Party in the house - 50 pts per Kerbal landed alive on Eeloo Mission control - 50 pts as part of the mission you deploy a space station in the Eeloo system from your primary vehikle. Mission control must have communication gear, some refueling ability and docking facilities. (This can include KAS systems) There and back again - 50 pts per kerbal returned alive to Kerbin Just visiting - 25 pts per station docked (or KAS'ed) to on the way out and back for refueling and such Seeing the sites - 25 pts take a rover with you and land it on Eeloo. Last years model - 100 pts. All Stock mission. We're here... now what - 20 pts per mission expansion. For every things you bring with you to do while on Eeloo. This can be Kethane, Extraplanetary, solar farming, mining, fuel recycling, probe deployment, whatever. Point on the part on the ship prelaunch and a pic of the deployment in the Eeloo system. Tab 'A' into slot 'B' - 25 pts per segment lifted from Kerbin for orbital construction. Complexity in mission craft should be rewarded. Want fries with that - 50 pts per fed Kerbal. Using the Duna Permanent settlement mission platform, take along representations of consumables like food and extra air. Each kerbal in the mission needs 3.1 kilos of consumables per day per kerbal or to make it easier 1 tonne equals 3 Kerbals for 100 days. Convoy - 25 pts per vehikle in the full mission profile. You don't have to have all the goods on your primary ship, only the kerbals need to travel together. Mission convoy ships all need to arrive before the kerbals prime ship. Can you hear me now? - 20 pts per satellite. Launch commsats in orbit around Eeloo. Each inclination must differ by at least 10 degrees. Full coverage bonus for getting 4 satellites up of 25 pts. Correlian YT-1300 - 50 pts. For each vehikle constructed and launched from any celestial other than Kerbin. These can be Extraplanetary Launch vehikles or ships put together on another world with docking ports and careful piloting. Any other rules, suggestions and awards are welcome.
  6. stock crafts for the final build ...hmmmmmmmmm 20-70 tonnes single stage unmanned basicaly a single tank with an engine with a probe on top that is non orbital launch vehikle. Used to teach about launch procedure and gravity turn basics. 120-170 tonne manned 3 stage Basic orbit capable craft for teaching stage releasing gravity turns to orbit, and reentry 120-170 tonne unmanned two stage lifter Able to get a user created third stage of <10 tonnes to LKO, for teaching mission package design and weight limits with given delta. space plane (don't make so no idea on the weight) single seat space plane, small in size with about 250 km range for teaching basic flight controls Any other premade craft should be in scenario/training bundles for teaching docking basics, landing without atmo, and orbital transfers. These would be mission specific and basically useless outside of their native scenario. Alacrity
  7. well here it is my... VERy .. qualified success. That's right.. I went... I saw... I cheated a little, and I got that little devil. Then I started to feel a little guilty... (remember the cheating, it wasn't mechjeb or anything... but definitely not stock). So I decided in loo of actually performing this again, I would try to curry favor (and freebie achievment points) by making a vid of my adventure. No kerbals were injured during the filming of this challenge... And Jeb had a great time Also first time imbedding a vid... so be kind Ok I decided to list my achievments... tactical strike - despite my best efforts I did manage to hit the thing. The impact sent it spinning out of control (tho only the solar sail died, it's orbit was comprimised) Chariots of Fire - Definately did this... Rode that satellite down like Major Kong in Dr strangelove Now for personal achievements Comeback and say the to my face - After a failed partial kill. Hunt it down and hit it again. The master of Marvel achievment - Using am obscure Stan Lee reference to describe your mission *thwip* Plan B - Plan for failure with a secondary disabling system that does not center on running into the satellite. I'm ready for my close up - Make a vid of your efforts Alacrity
  8. panicked amateur voice talent, rocking in the fetal position in the corner... Check alacrity
  9. Sent you something... years of psychotherapy should help you recover Alacrity
  10. I will be entering soonish but I would just like to say STOCK challenges are fun... BUT really hard to remember which parts are stock in the PILE of mods I am running...sigh Alacrity
  11. I just want to able to edit/add action groups in flight... The action groups I use at launch are usually rendered useless once I am up in space. Especially space constructed stations. Once I have docked parts together my action groups kinda fall apart (or totally fall apart). I am left basically just having a couple of groups to get the ship up and the remaining reserved for whatever base/rover/return vehikle is left over at the end of the flight. alacrity
  12. My Kerbin Nation already suffers from turmoil. In the Beginning UshraKerbal survived years of political strife as it's own leadership became dummer and dummer in a failed attempt at democracy. Finally collapsing after voting a leadership of actors, sports celebraties and Tweens, UshraKerbal looked to be finished and doomed to be swallowed up. A new Renaissance saved the nation as a Technocracy stepped into the vacuum. Able to deliver food stuffs, quickly rebuild infrastructure, and move the nation forward, they swept aside the old and replaced them. The launch of a Mun orbiting Kerbal cemented their power in the hearts of the people. Now firmly in the lead of it's people sweeping changes were made to the electoral process. Education became mandatory and heavily enforced. All members of the government were required before candidacy to prove knowledge and skills in nation leadership and skills in the job they are seeking. want to be in UKEMA (UshraKerbal Emergency Management Agency) you have to have education in emergency response and field experience. You Ciriculum Vitae in that area of experience will be posted right along you name and compared to the CV's of other candidates. As a result the leadership pushes forward a scientific progress agenda well suited to the resource heavy Kerbin based nation. Flaws became apparent after a couple of generations when simplistic problem solving began to suffer. Very educated populations looking for the best highest tech solution to problems, when sometimes the easiest answer is to just dig a hole. These problems became even bigger as Ushrakerbal reached into space and started to colonize. The new working class, made up of Engineers and workers, faced an ever growing problem in a leadership of thinkers that spent so much time trying to invent new better things without building anything. With almost heretical maneuvering they succeeded in getting a mission to Duna designed, tested and built in a time scale that denied the technocracy to stop it's launch. In the span of two years the engineers had managed to get a permanent settlement started. 10 years saw a survivable basis and the first Dunarian births. 10 more years marked the 3 year anniversary of the last resupply mission from ushraKerbal. Duna was populated, self suffcient and growing without help from the home world. The problems were already seeded but this marked the full turning point. The Duna colony, led and populated by the engineer contingent started to call for indepence. Starting with hollow threats of cutting off supply, and following with bribery the home world tried to keep the Duna group under control. Promises of representation in the homeworld government, increased luxury good transport, funding for increased square footage of living space. All of it with the strings of continued off world control. The Dunarian collective declared independence with the decidedly snarky act of establishing their own orbiting station of Kerbin called 'Escape Route'. Now there is an openly hostile peace between the two worlds. immigration in both directions is rampant tho. With its huge eduational resources, UshraKerbal takes in students from all over Kerbin and the Collective, while Duna attracts Ushrans looking to build outside of the safety of the Kerbin Atmosphere. Good luck with your own colonies... we have our own problems with ours Alacrity
  13. This is as heavy as I have built a crane rover... basically just for getting smaller rovers back on their wheels if they survive a crash Seats 5 (two controllers, a command seat, science station and a crane operator seat0 Alacrity
  14. i am about to embark on a huge invasion... I mean colinization of Duna. Careful scanning has produced the best landing places for me to get near both Kethane and ore, my mining carts are built, hab refinery is set, kas is installed on everything. I am beginning to realize the our Great Creator Majiir, (or cruel overlord depending on your OCD level... which for me is VERY HIGH) is working as hard as always which means only one thing... Starting over from scratch with new parts, new designs, rescanning the planet. GODS I love this mod... and hate it sometimes... cruel mistress of Kerbal space. Thanks Majiir for the work and the mod. You should buy all your crewmates at Kethane industries a pint... make it several... at least enough to keep them plastered till I can get my next iteration of the Duna base completed and goof around with it some. Alacrity
  15. I love the age cutoffs... i missed going to the next bracket by a gnats hair... usually 40 is the beginning of a new bracket not the end of one. pHEW Alacrity
  16. Any thoughts on adding fuel/consumables to the square girder structures. I really like the triangular, but when I have to use rcs ports i need a balanced symmetry base for them (usual add some stock square struts to the end for the RCS) Alacrity
  17. well here at sidewinder tech we have company cars They are not the most fuel efficient, but with a big enough fuel tank it is not really a problem. damn hippies keep picketing my parking garage tho Alacrity
  18. as a side note... alakrity kerman is afraid of planes... just sayin
  19. Sign up alacfitz world Preference: Not Kerbin (mom won't leave me alone) Mission commander: Alakrity Fitzhugh Kerman Curiculem Vitae 2008 -- Not-so controlled flight into terrain while orbiting Minmus. 2009 -- First near orbital lift of a rover with out rockets... also at Minmus. 2010-2011 -- Missed Eeloo by that much. 2012 -- Inventor of the fitzhugh maneuver... using the Mun in a slingshot to establish a Kerbin orbit... when leaving kerbin. Later indicted for securities fraud and insider trading with the Liquid fuel lobby. 2013 -- Completed construction of a Minmus refueling station 'EXXON VALDEZ' with Mission Kss 134 docking the final piece in place... then forget to kill the engines of the tug and pushed the whole station, now the Kerbol Solar obsrvatory 'WHOOPSIE', out of the Kerbin system. I look forward to being apart of this carefully planned and not at all explosive endeavor. ps... Is there dental? Alacrity
  20. you know its challenges like this that make me wish I had a way of telling stock from mod parts in the heavily overpopulated install that i run these days... i will give this a shot and pic ya later alacrity
  21. I do unload a lot of the AERO parts from stock and all the mods... Alacrity don't build planes. Other than that, with all the wierd parts I have crammed onto different ships, I would have t be too careful to unload other parts. I am sure if I went one part at a time I coud hussle together 30 parts I know I will NEVER use, but I just can't be bothered Alacrity
  22. Ok so my mission profile (it was half done when I converted to 21 and I lost all my work.... grrrrrrrrrrrr) using mods Kethane (for something to do at Dune) extraplanetary launcher (Ore Mining/ not using it to build anything for the Duna mission all craft are kerbin launched but since i am doing all this work I wanted them out there for later use) MechJeb (for getting the weights of my ships and for the orbital - surface flight data on ) THSS (the triangular girder/struts... because they look cool) HOME (hate using hitchikers for habs) TT Modular wheels (better wheels) NUKEMod (smaller parts for a better rover scale) infernal/damned robotics (I like the crane) KAS (really can't do kethane/extraplanetary without it, also easy way to flip rovers back onto their wheels) Mission Concept. i am creating a manned outpost on duna for continuous use and eventual development into a manned extra-planetary KSP. Putting in the ground work for self sustaining construction/fuel gathering and bio synthesis (Food and breathable air). Planned launches to get all parts in route before finally lifting off the manned missions (Olympus, Omphalos 1) Addressed concerns Weather monitoring - doubling up the replenishment missions as weather stations Inflight feedings - using the drop tanks as converted storage (requires eva's inflight but free's up space for habitation and allows for dropping the weight once the cans are empty. return vehikle survivability - prelaunching extended food supplies as well as having the crew replenishment ships be reuable as a return vehikle in case Omphalos fails to land. Launching additional Omphalos as back up. Rules concerns extraplanetary - Only using this as a mission goal, not an active ship building device. kind of like the 3d printer they are sending into space now but larger scale. all ships wil come from kerbin. moving building - decided that i really didn't feel this was in my mission frame, using KAS instead (along with hopefully accurate landings) Primary Habitation 'OLYMPUS'. Limited Kethane conversion capable, two onboard rovers each with room for two. Hab space for 3(6) Resources for 3 on a 160d mission flight. (only two to fly out with it, Third traveling seperately.) Fully kitted for science, includes crane and Kethane converter as well as on board fuel conversion Crew replanishment vehikle 'CHARIOT'. Crew compliment of 3 External storage of food stuffs and consumable for releasing during flight and lghitening load on Duna Approach. Acts as emergency lift vehikle from surface to Dune orbital station Kerbin Return Vehikle 'OMPHALOS'. Crew Kerbin return vehikle. Crew compliment 3(6) 440 units of Consumable Acts as secondary housing in case of need Uses Jr connector so EVA transfer only First OMPHALOS will carry third member of the initial Duna Group, subsuquent missions will go unmanned as Chariot will be the full time replenishment vehikle Consumable replenishment probes 'CORNUCOPIA' Self guided probe mission two individual probes taken together Each carries 240 units of goods Each carries weather monitor package (Thermo, Barometer) to act as early warning stations to be landed at least 5 km for central area. Manufactoria for the base 'VOLCANUS' Sent unmanned Used to create parts and small ships (Replacement parts for rovers, food tanks for the Ompahlos) Processing storage for VOLCANUS 'MYTHRIL' Storage and ore conversion for parts building Ore mining vehikle 'HYPHAESTUS' Mobile mining platform limited storage but descent range and speed KAS system linking for using rovers for additional power to feed to auger's Duna Orbital station 'AMBROSIA' refueling station for Duna Low Orbit also communication link from ground when ARES OCULI is out of alignment set up as future kethane reproscessor with 9000 units of kethane storage Primary duna system station, orbiting Ike 'ARGO' kethane reproscessor crew capacity of 12, set for future long term liveable science station Home module for yeast culture food source as well as limited green life foodstuff and oxy replenishment using Ike for easier burnout for manned Jool Missions (Not Pictured) Polar orbital scanning communication sat 'ARES OCULI' simple comsat with kethane and ISAMapping i am still missing a kethane rover I know, but other than that anyone else see and glaring ommisions in my fleet? I will be posting my time table soonest alacrity
  23. Building around a delivery versus building under it was one of my AHA's too Here is my delivery system system for the spar arms of the orginal spindle station at Kerbin The part in place without all those pesky rockets around it Then I thought... How about a send up the puel pods for spindle in bundles. With spindle I needed to get 12 double stacked FL-T800 to the station and the idea of taking up 12 trips wearied me. So hence the multi fuel pod launch vehikle. You can see the longer double stacks on the side of the central thrust each with their own probe to control them when disattached for docking to spindle. Here is spindle almost done. I lost her in the 19 to 20 migration and have not worked up the heart to rebuild and design it. My current spindle station id built broader but with fewer parts I hope everyone's aha moment continue Alacrity
  24. The flat solar panel can break without falling off or exploding.... I have had to replace no end of my duna rovers for this reason. Anytime they rolled over I seemed to have about a 50% chance of failure on each panel fitted. Alacrity
  25. I have to agree with Knath on his list... Though Pournelle... a personal favorite talks more of the politics of space flight (Read Imperial stars series) then the science of space flight. Alacrity
