Science Question
Spyritdragon replied to PetahSchwetah's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I believe the amount of data you collect isnt exactly equal to the amount of science its worth. -

What exactly are we building, and do we need new applicants? -

Alright, im done! All i need now is a persistance file to merge with. -

Alright, docked! The entire module was redesigned. Im out of computer-time now, but the entire thing is docked, tested and works like a charm. I still have to disconnect and clean up orbit. Due to problems that arose just today with my microphone, the video will be a while out. I'll have the persistance file for you by tomorrow in favour of speeding the project up. I have a slideshow of the failed attempt too, because the non-failed one actually wasn't much to watch. It launched like a charm, took only a single trip back to the VAB, and even that one due to forgetfullness and not due to crash. Docked like a charm too. -

Okay, i managed to dock the thing. Sadly, once connected to the station, it tends to rip itself apart rather than just have torque. Which means i'll have to rebuild it. I've got the launch stage now though, so it shouldn't take long. -
Put the Kerbal on his chair in a box. The box contains him on the chair, two spaces for a Kerbal on opposite sides of the chair, one of which has an engine pointing at it. Attach remote control, docking port and SAS to the box, have him get up and tumble the box around randomly for a while. Now lock the box to a dock that will prevent further rotation, or make sure you have a second engine cancelling the torque from the one inside, and fire up the engine. Keep it on long enough to kill a Kerbal in front of it. 50-50 chance of survival, no way to know :-)

Alright, good news and bad news. Good news, its in orbit. Bad news, it has TORQUE. I still, need to run a few more tests, but it appears that firing the opposing mainsails generates a torque. If its not too bad or can be resolved by using gimbal, it should be docked this evening. If not, ill have to redesign using long parts rather than tanks placed with the symmetry option. Be warned beforehand that I advise not to fire the mainsails for long - theyre mostly meant to burst small objects away at high speeds, firing only for about a single second fullthrust. -
Old thread maybe, but id rather bump than ask it again. OP's question really.

Generally, a big launch stage with reasonably inefficient engines with high thrust, used to get my craft mostly into orbit. For rockomax, i tend to rely on mainsails or skippers at least untill i hit a 80-by-80 LKO. Then a 'transfer stage' to put stuff either in the orbit it needs to be, bring it to a station i want to dock it with, or put it in the sphere of influence where i need it. This stage always comes with a probe core to deorbit it if in any way possible, and is propelled by NERVA's, 909's, possibly poodles. Sometimes the last part of LKO injection and this stage fall together, usually for station parts, which will usually use a skipper. Then finally, my payload :-). Keep in mind when designing, that ISP is a gradual line - it gradually changes going from sea level to in space, rather than switching the moment you exit the atmosphere.

Where can i get with 5747 delta v?

So... what will it take to go to Tylo, land there, then return home to Kerbin? -

That's terrible :-/. But it's a good thing you mustered the courage. Try not to let it push you down too much. I know it's very cliche, but there will be others, which will be interested, and you can't let those pass you by just because it didn't work out this time. I had a similar moment a long time ago - it's been years now. We're still very good friends, but i've never mustered the courage to ask any girl out anymore. Don't let yourself get pushed into that hole, because it is not cosy here. Stay up there, in the bright world of the courageous. Have courage. Have faith. Let Jebediah inspire you :-). -
Take a small science-equipped probe on-site. A barometer, gravity meter and acceleration meter are sufficient to calculate air pressure and resistance, so you can check where the atmosphere ends. I'm just not sure what their detection threshold is, especially on the barometer, so that might get a little annoying. Also, you can use the bar on top of your screen. It might be that it only starts descending a small while under the atmospheres upper limit, but you can still use the bars and relative size to calculate an approximation. Finally, what i've always found useful, is that KSP usually starts 'outer space' music as soon as you are actually in space, and stops playing the music the moment you reenter atmosphere. On Kerbin i know this is true, so its definitely worth a try on Eve.

Spyritdragon replied to Nauthy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Okay i suppose. Ill just ask everyone on the project now: How do i strut my payload to my launch vehicle so that the struts will no longer count as parts when i disconnect? If i connect the launch vehicle to the payload with struts, then fire a decoupler to seperate them, the struts visually dissapear, mostly. Will they also stop counting as parts? If not, can i attach a decoupler to the payload, strut that then fire it to remove the struts? Im no sure wether decoupled decoupler are parts either. -
"There is no science to be done in sandbox mode"
Spyritdragon replied to PwnedDuck's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I know it'd be more fun in stock, and i agree we should at least be able to activate the science modules in sandbox. But can't we just.... mod the science parts for sandbox? -

Spyritdragon replied to Nauthy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No, not at all. It's just that my entry has been kindof a big chaos, with the starting and stopping multiple times, and its kind of whacked me out of schedule. I was just chastising myself for trying to send up complicated modules when i've never been to Jool yet. -

My module isn't exactly up yet. My entire entry is one big chaos because of all the 'go stop go stop go stop'. Confound me for making it so hard when i've never even been to Jool. Not that i couldn't, just too lazy for a transfer window, but you get the point. I didn't get on KSP Saturday due to complications. I've been working in KSP yesterday, but it's quite hard to get the damn thing into space and then docked, because i don't dare strut it to the launch vehicle for fear it will leave struts as part count. I'm remodelling it now to support a vertically based launch system. Im temporarily throwing the cinematic project overboard to work on the fuel station. Give me two more days, three tops, for the persistance on the fuel station. Since Goose only added to the science station and a ground base, merging persistance shouldn't be a problem. If i don't get the mass drive into space at the end of Tuesday, i'll fall back to launcing a copy of Konami One. I know i can launch that one reasonably easily, so you'll have the persistance file end of wednesday at the latest. After that i'll get back to working on my cinematic. Which i still hope turns out awesome :-). But i refuse to give up on my driver just yet. May Scott Manley guide me. -

I actually did it... only i forgot to take pictures of launch & orbit, just of landing. Ill come back later with pictures . -
I love the starting teir. It really gives a feeling of the 'okay we found a few cool pieces lying by the side of the road lets build a rocket!' feeling.

From the moment i bought KSP, never have i even considered the thought KSP might not have been worth the money. I love squad. I even voluntarily bypassed on the steam sale to give more money to Squad. Thank you squad, this game is awesome! Thanks for letting me try it in a reasonable demo before i bought it, thanks for letting us play the Alpha, and thanks for all the amazing content you keep creating.

No, but i have blown my target away with my target retrograde exhaust.

Each craft has a seperate identification within the persistance folder. I'll either launch a small sattelite probe into orbit / wherever Goose's construction is, which will then be registered in the persistence file, then replace the probe's persistance entry with Goose's construction. Or i'll just take my copy of the station, which could get quite lengthy though, and copy it into Goose's persistance file. -

This is going to be awesome! Suddenly i find i can't wait for .22 even more than before. I am trying this, as soon as i get to my KSP! -
