  1. ... and it was only one stage. And she was able to almost land on the Mun. Incredible.
  2. Well, so this kinda happened. Was taking a hastily made Arkingthaad style lander out for an atmospheric test. Ended up going exoatmospheric. Then it made orbit. Then it made it out by the moon. Then I (almost!) landed on it. Was at a mere 250 m/s before I was outta fuel. I could very well have an SSTM Arkingthaad Tower Lander. Soonish. O_o ... I was expecting it to go boom. I didn't even bother putting on her legs.
  3. Okay. So we have science. And a new Whackeneering episode cooking. I slapped together a shabby looking Arkingthaad style tower lander, sans legs, just to see how it'll handle. Didn't measure anything, didn't have a plan, just threw things at the wall until it started throwing things back. So at one point I want boom. So I take what I've made, slap it on the pad, and press spacebar. Then this happens. Just... what do I say to that? This prototype just checked the SSTO box. My mind is in pieces.
  4. And now that I've de-officed, I rub my hands with glee! It's time to science.
  5. BIOS is the "Basic Input Output System". The bios check basically means everything is there. CPU? Check. Memory? Check. LPT1 cable? Not recently! Either something burned out, overheated, got jostled loose (check your cables!), or gave up the mystic blue smoke that all electronics depend on to live. My suggestion? Throw on an ESD bracelet and pop the case. Unseat, clean, and reseat *everything*. SOURCE: A guy that done troubleshooting for twenty odd years and remembers working Bluemail on a Banyan Vines token ring network.
  6. While I don't doubt they're there, I'm just gonna say that their number and influence are pretty minimal. Given the other game forums I lurk as a comparison.
  7. Sounds like ore needs to be significantly heavier.
  8. My cup runneth over. So I put it in an inline storage tank. Then shot it into space so it would freeze and quit making a mess.
  9. For the sake of hilarity: Take the 3.5m storage can, and put a 3.5m Monoprop tank in there. Put it in the middle of a rocket. Now go to launch it! For those of you wanting cinematic rapid unplanned(?) disassembly, this is a very handy method.
  10. That it did. Well, that's what I get for jumping the gun. I misidentified the problem. And now, I have to put my science on hold. Because 'Whack has to office, today.
  11. Nope, none of those, Fel. I found the problem. That inline storage tank. It was just above where I had the side engines mounted, and when that sheared, it took out everything. I just moved some parts, and now all is as it should. So truss cage still worky. I guess we need to change the PSA to "Don't use the largest RCS tank inside the largest storage tank, because Kraken Happens.
  12. Forget the truss based reinforcement and landing gear. It'll shear on the pad! It doesn't work! I'll try to find a resolution. But be aware: That dog ain't huntin' mud, senior! The crew stowaway can and the protective utility bay... they fall right off. Their own weight is enough. Even with severe strutting, they shear the moment physics come in. They're probably intended to sit safely atop a rocket, but we all know I work a bit differently. Just to clarify, here: This isn't a gripe, and I ain't asking for things to change back to what they were. To me, this is an added layer of high difficulty that I gladly embrace. This will make things MUCH MUCH harder to build big! In Whackjob land, science recommences. - - - Updated - - - I think I found the problem! Down below, in the inline storage protective bay thing, I put one battery of max radius, and an RCS can. They kinda fit. Apparently collision goes nuts if anything completely fills the interior. Doing more tests now.
  13. First test: Building big. A fair warning to all: Things are different. Truss cage reinforcement techniques NO LONGER WORK as I used them.
  14. Wolves tearing at my flesh couldn't keep me away. Have sutures for proof.
  15. Well, I think it's safe to say we smashed the 297 post previous hype thread!
  16. If the patch drops at noon, this thread has an hour and a half worth of steam, yet.
  17. Colonel Sandurz: Try here. Stop. Dark Helmet: What the heck am I looking at? When does 1.0 finally drop? Colonel Sandurz: Not now. You're looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now, is happening now. Dark Helmet: What happened to patch day? Colonel Sandurz: Won't happen until then. Dark Helmet: When? Colonel Sandurz: Then. We're at now now. Dark Helmet: Go back to then. Colonel Sandurz: When? Dark Helmet: Now. Colonel Sandurz: Now? Dark Helmet: Now. Colonel Sandurz: I can't. Dark Helmet: Why? Colonel Sandurz: Didn't happen yet. Dark Helmet: When? Colonel Sandurz: Then! Dark Helmet: When will then be now? Colonel Sandurz: Soon.
  18. Put a question on the IAMA. Waiting with fingers crossed.
  19. Allow me to rephrase the question. What time EST is this expected to drop? I might do another video then. Trying to plan what time I've got.
  20. I was aaalllll geared up to do another video today. Now I think I might as well wait for 1.0 to drop, and redo the Arkingthaad tower again and see if I can make it work with all of this.
  21. Imagine if the magic boulder came back. And imagine if it now had potatoroid properties. Now imagine you can take it home and put it on display at the KSC. This is what I want.
