  1. I always have a certain fear of going to a new place. Before going to Duna I would think "nah it's too early to go there, I should do more things in the kerbin system." Then it was the same with Jool. I thought "nah I should do more things around kerbin and duna." Now I try to let that go and just think that I can go wherever I want so long as I build a ship to do it.
  2. I mainly watch Danny and Scott. Gonna have to take a peek at the other suggestions in this thread.
  3. Yeah that is the big thing people keep missing. Procedural generation != randomly configured planetary systems.
  4. Pretty sure that it is grey in space and will open as you get deeper into the atmosphere.
  5. KSP is as good as it is precisely because it doesn't use an RNG to determine if you are having fun or not. Every failure or success is determined by a complicated set of interactions that can seem random to us, but ultimately are things that follow ceetain laws that can be accounted for and corrected. That being said, it is worth noting that the terrain in KSP is already procedurally generated. It just uses constant seeds to produce the same results every time. IIRC the same holds true in Space Engine.
  6. I'm gonna have to try that out and hope that active texture management will keep my game from exploding. lol
  7. I feel like KSP and SE have different, albeit overlapping goals in mind. Space Engine started off as a universe browser where you hop around from place to place to take in the view. Meanwhile KSP has a smaller, but still quite massive scope since it primarily deals in the personal discovery and exploration of the game's solar system. SE has adopted spaceships and all, but they have a different approach from KSP where the focus isn't just to build your own ship, but to build your own space program more or less from scratch. It starts smaller and builds out from there while SE seems to have started massive and is kinda working backwards to fill in the blanks. Its pretty interesting to compare the two games though, and chances are they will both overlap each other more as development goes on too. I doubt a true merger would be possible for the technical reasons already outlined, but maybe a future game will be able to outdo them both one day.
  8. Most mods that use the toolbar no longer have buttons of their own, so they do require it as a strict dependency. Some do provide their own interface if the toolbar is gone though.
  9. Yup, the forum itself doesn't let you upload images so you need to upload them elsewhere and link them with tags
  10. Welcome to the forums and the game, too!
  11. I download all sorts of content for this game. Mods are great XD
  12. Maybe you could bisect Eve's atmosphere for a big ol' slowdown should you manage an encounter, but other than that I figure you'll have have to burn at PE and hope you have enough fuel.
  13. I like your perspective on the issue. Sci-Fi doesn't always portray things properly, but you're right in that neither do most of the other kinds of media we like. And sometimes those breaks from reality are the very things that can provide their own level of enjoyment. But that being said, it's always nice seeing those rare stories that actually do get everything right while telling a great tale at the same time.
  14. This is my favorite way to work out interplanetary transfers
  15. I wonder if that could fix the water lag assuming it could be done?
  16. Just stopping by to say that I love this plugin. I remember when I was first experimenting with mods, and it didn't take long for me to be somewhat irritated that each mod had its own set of buttons with its own set of rules for UI style and button placement. Thankfully, those days are over because of this. One Toolbar to rule them all!
  17. This update is awesome. But the question is, now where do we go to find Kerbal textures? The UR thread? If anyone knows of a pack that simply gives the big 3 their rightful orange EVA suits, that's the main thing I'm looking for
  18. Hmm, new version sounds like it's good. Gonna have to test it out. But did anyone get a good config for Interstellar worked out yet?
  19. You actually don't want too much power (or TWR, more accurately) in the lower atmosphere since you'll exceed terminal velocity. If losing outer engines as you stage is causing you to lose too much thrust then you probably need to alter your engine configuration. Since the engines in the central stack of an asparagus lifter will be the ones you hold onto the longest, it can be beneficial to have those be stronger than the individual boosters along the sides. An example would be having a skipper as your central engine and LV-T30's for the side rockets. I'll have to some digging around to uncover an old post by this guy who distributed a rather nice series of lifters called the zenith family. It explains what trying to get at much more elegantly.
  20. I vote for Dres too. Just easy to forget about it hiding there between Jool and Duna.
  21. It's not the whole thing is wrong. It made a better effort than most sci-fi shows do with respect to the way characters have to deal with survival in space. The only reason we bother to nitpick it is because of the parts it did get right. If it were all fictional like star wars or something then it would a non-issue.
