  1. Would my Hermes jet vehicle qualify as a plane? :/ http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/43909-Hermes-Jet-Delivery-System-Duna-on-a-Shoestring
  2. Woah, that game looks really good!
  3. The idea that I had is for a huge real-time war game taking place on a map that zooms into Google maps level. At the biggest zoom setting you move sliders such as environmentalism, industrialism, military etc. and your country builds procedural cities and places its armies automatically. YOu have limited control and more set the "direction" of your country rather than control it directly. You are essentially a real life president/prime minister. When war breaks out you can zoom in and watch your armies fight the other countries but it's all run automatically and you just give vague instructions to your general, you cant command individual units.
  4. Said by everyone, ever. I made a Skyrim-esque game set in North Africa. Programmed items and a basic sword fighting system before moving onto another hobby. Game development, like any other career, involves a lot more grinding numbers than you'd expect, unless you're a part of the art/modelling team. You have been warned
  5. Anyone done one of these courses?
  6. You need to press [ or ] to switch to the missile probe core. "Control from here" just aligns the navball

  8. Guys, what if you're all just done mocking someone with dyslexia?
  9. Presenting "Little Hermes" A proof-of-concept hybrid turbojet engine capable of reaching low Kerbin orbit: It's low radar profile makes it ideal as a body for smaller reconnaissance vehicles. With a capable atmospheric velocity in excess of 1000m/s (max speed is top-secret). Although this self-contained prototype is capable of low Kerbin orbit, it would be ideal as a base for smaller vehicles or as an engine for a larger space-plane. The "Little Hermes" hybrid jet-engine would be ideally suited for defense contractors, or even for SSTO projects. Craft file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v37uc3iftnsq5hv/Little%20Hermes.craft The creator is not responsible for performance failures or death or injury resulting from this engine
  10. I can't believe that you hold the Space Race as more important than the French Revolution, World War II, the Roman Empire, the burning of the library at Alexandria, Ghenghis Khan, the discovery of the wheel/fire, the American Civil War/War of Independence, Columbus, Kepler, Einstein, Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, etc etc. That said I would not like another World War II, despite the technological improvements. I much more hope for a social/political movement than a scientific one.
  11. Here's my attempt, 5496 meters, I'm sure you can do better.
  12. The Hair-raiser EVA challenge Background A recent mission to send a mapping probe to orbit the Mun has gone badly wrong; due to miscalculation it's orbit is much closer to the Mun's surface than expected! To make things worse, solar panels have failed to deploy and the probe is out of electrical capacity. Rather than abandon the project or make a new probe, an opportunity has been devised for a single astronaut to repair the existing probe which allows for the KSP to test it's latest orbital rendezvous methods. It will be up to one brave Kerbal to bring their craft to a low Mun orbit, rendezvous with the broken probe and repair it with the Munar landscape whizzing past. Challenge To EVA and meet with a satellite orbiting in low Munar orbit. The most hair-raising operation wins! This is the lowest orbit of either vessel around the Mun. Launch a satellite and move it into low Mun orbit. The orbit must be fairly circular. The satellite may not be controlled after it's orbit has been established. Launch a single manned capsule to the Mun. Match orbits and perform an EVA to the satellite, then return to your own craft and return to Kerbin. The lowest altitude at which the EVA is performed wins. RULES NO MECHJEB! Mod parts may be used but no mods that aid in navigation or docking etc. The probe must not be controlled after the manned mission has been launched. It may not contain RCS, but should have ladders to perform the EVA. The manned capsule must return to Kerbin. Scoreboard 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Special category: no RCS 1. 2. 3.
  13. I can't be bothered pressing the brakes on that perilous slope down to the sea, so I abandoned this challenge
  14. It does exist in a world 5 times bigger though...
  15. Dunno why we can't have both. Have n-body physics, put everything on rails when you time warp.
  16. In fact, you should build him a small plane to learn to fly in IVA mode, like real astronauts. He'll still have no clue about controlling a rocket into orbit
  17. He shouldn't be a rookie pilot. You should teach him how to use the controls, but all his education should take place in IVA mode. He should have an abort control group set up to bring him back to Kerbin safely too
