So recovery is actually another form of reconditioning and rollout (which are themselves two sides of the same thing). The recovery portion itself is the least configurable unfortunately (the effect of distance is hardcoded [twice as long when on the other side of Kerbin] and any changes you make will also affect the rollout time), but you can probably still tweak it to something a bit more reasonable. Look at the ReconditioningFormula on this page and ask me if you have any questions. There's actually a fairly simple way to define rollout/recovery entirely separately from reconditioning with just that one formula.

Send me a log anyways and I can grab the list of mods out of it (or you can do that yourself, just search for "mod dlls" and it should take you to a list that's nicely presented by ModuleManager). The one thing your update method lacks is that it'll remove any custom config files, but if you're not using any then that's not an issue, and KCT saves 90% of the settings in the save folder rather than the GameData folder, so it's not too bad for KCT. I do have a special love for home rolled methods of handling things, though . I used to have several GameData's that I'd switch between with a .bat script. Adding new ones was a pain, so I wrote DataSwitcher to let me have unlimited mod installs. Since log files are a pain to read, I wrote LogViewer to make them a million times more readable. I just recently wrote a program to automatically manage the Light Green Group Sometimes it's fun not to use the "pre-packaged" solutions for things. My fiance hates when I do that though, cause it's never as smooth to use (the bugs add charm!)

Can you upload the entire log? And not the KSP.log (or whichever one you were looking at) but instead the one from here: ~/.config/unity3d/Squad/Kerbal\ Space\ Program/Player.log That mod list is conveniently short, so I can cross reference it with the mods installed on the other peoples' systems. Do you mind also uploading your save, assuming it reliably happens with that save? If I had to guess, I'd say that SCANsat is throwing the error that ultimately triggers the message, but another mod is likely causing the initial problem. I think I've seen DeepFreeze mentioned in other logs, so I'm beginning to suspect that (but don't have any proof yet). May I suggest CKAN instead of manually installing mods? On the off chance you haven't heard of it, it's a tool that automatically installs and keeps mods up to date. You have a small enough mod list that it's not really necessary, but I figured I'd mention it in case you didn't know about it Hmm, linux 64 bit is also common between you two. I also play with 64 bit on Linux Mint (and with a noticeably larger mod list than you, but much smaller than westmastaflash) but haven't seen this come up. The only mods I have in common with you invultri are KCT and Distant Object Enhancement.

[11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!

Rep@HOME distributed computing of reputation giving Everyone donates their computers and/or profiles to the greater good. The greater good being repping ME! (and then later on other people). Clearly, the best way to get rep yourself is to give me your reputation (and login credentials). (Note: this is a joke. For the love of Kraken don't give me your login credentials) -

Oh no, you're giving me ideas. Don't do that! I could write something that will you give an estimate of how long until you get to a certain rep level. But that might be a little too excessive Estimating yourself is ok, writing a program to make arranging the list easier (thus saving someone a lot of time) is ok, but writing a program to estimate how long it will take until you get to a certain amount of rep is definitely over a line. I still want to do it though I probably won't. But now I'm thinking of how many different ways you can come up with an estimate: based on how quickly you got the last 15 reps (what you can see on your profile), based on your rep/total time since registration (aka, your average over all the time you've been here), and looking at rep/post count/posts per day. And now I want to sort everyone by their rate of rep gaining just to get some solid data on who and what gets the most rep the fastest. I fear that knowledge might promote attempts to gain rep for "the wrong reasons", though. -
[1.1.2] B.R.O.K.E. - Beta 4 - 05/26/2016 - Now with gameplay!

Nope, you're right. I only got a chance to do a quick test, but changing the version of the .dll did in fact break it. Looks like I'll just keep the core .dll at 1.0 and use an alternative versioning setup. I'll look at your version check code to see if there's a particular way I should do it so that it works with Contract Configurator right out of the box (or with minimal changes) -

It's more that I wrote a translator. The thing that counts the silly green points is the forum software itself, which not only counts them but was also the creator of these specific green points. All I do is translate the ordered list of members it provides, into an ordered list in a different form. Besides, I like little projects like this that only take a few hours to implement Now, it would get far more complex if I actually tried to count how much rep everyone has, since the forum doesn't tell me that in the search results. I'd have to extract that out of the user's profile page. Thankfully I am told the link to that page, so it wouldn't be too hard, but then it's less of a translation Doing it for everyone on the forum would take hours, and I'd probably be told not to do that anymore by the Squad employees Thankfully the program always grabs the latest data, so it shouldn't create a snowball effect that destroys the forums (and the world! muahahahaha!) It'll just be a little out of date until it gets run again. But keeping a running list of every user's reputation, including all transactions (who sends rep to who, and when)... I could make that happen... I could become the REPUTATION OVERLORD! MUAHAHAHAHAHA! INFINITE TINY GREEN FAKE INTERNET POWAH! (why do we not have a laughing kerbal icon? Normal or evil, both variants would be nice) -
Sorry, yeah I got distracted by some other projects. My attempt to set the ship to landed prior to unloading so as to not require as much work didn't end up working, so I'm going to have to do it "the hard way" and keep track of the vessels manually. I can maybe take a look at this again tonight

[11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!
magico13 replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
There's supposed to be a space there, but it doesn't seem to be adding it. I figure you can fix those couple lines yourself (or just copy and paste the users for each section). But I'll set it up so you can change that text in the config and it'll put it in automatically. For users without descriptions you just add their name and description to the descriptions file and it will handle it automatically in the future. You don't even have to put them in the file in any specific order, you just have to make sure the name is correct. For example: magico13. Magico13 has a description Endersmens. [COLOR="#123456"] He's running this show! For username colors to work (since usernames must be precise and have a period after them) I made it so if the description starts with a color, that color gets applied to the username. So you can't color the first word of a description unfortunately, but that won't come up often. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to color urls. I'm still looking into it. Edit: Does this color work? NathanKell. Creator of a variety of wonderful mods, including Deadly Reentry and Real Solar System, as well as a distinguished "Modder-ator." yes! Ok, colors will work with links now Edit2. Cpt. Kipard has a period in his name... that makes it unable to find his description. Looks like I need to switch to a different thing than a period in the description file. Anyone know off hand what things are forbidden in the usernames? Umm, maybe I'll just go with a tab, since that's probably the least used? Final edit for the night: Here is the download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o10npdemy67apa9/LightGreenUpdater.zip?dl=0 I've licensed it as MIT since everything on the forums needs a license. The LGU_settings.txt file must stay in the same folder as the .exe (which is a .net application targeting .NET 3.5 like KSP). Inside that file you can change a few things: searchURL: The URL to use when making the search. [pageNUMBER] gets replaced automatically with what page of the search it should be on (since we can only view 30 at a time) DescriptionFile: Points to where the descriptions are held OutputFile: Where you want the final thing to output NewMemberTxt: What the description for members who aren't in the description list should be NameSeparator: When it outputs, it uses Username"separator" Description. By default, it's period (magico13. Desc). Change it to something else (like : ) to get (magico13: desc) Bars6 through Bars1: The text to display between regions with different bar levels The descriptions file just requires one username - description pair per line with the following format USERNAME[tab]DESCRIPTION (ie, magico13\t Description) It has a few special tricks. Setting the start of the description to (or any other colors) will color the username with that color. You should also enter these as if you were typing them into the forum post (so use the SIZE= and [i /i] tags [purposefully trying to avoid triggering them, you get the idea]). Don't enter colors as anything except the hex value. I stupidly put a fixed size in there and forgot to change that (so you can't use COLOR=RED for instance). If the user's description is just "Ignore" (w/o quotes) then they'll be ignored. Currently that's just used for the SQUAD users. I think that basically sums it all up! [11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!
magico13 replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
My pleasure! It's good practice for me using C# outside of modding I'll add links in right away. Edit: Profile pictures would be hard. I'd have to grab them a different way since they're not returned in the member list search. I'm not sure Squad would take too kindly to me writing a bot that scours the forum quite that much. Though it's really no different from a search engine scouring the forum. -

I didn't think of it until about 11 pm last night when I was trying to sleep I wish I had thought of it weeks ago, but alas. It'll make keeping things up to date easier at least! Any requests, btw? I've fixed the "names with spaces" bug on my end and am trying to make a small config file that lets you set a few things. You'll still have to do a bit of formatting on your end, but not nearly as much as doing it all manually. Do you want the names to link to their profiles? It'll require extracting one more piece of info from the search results, but that wouldn't be too hard to do. -
Other people have reported this with the same exact same error being logged. For the one, removing Mission Controller seemed to fix it, but I don't think you have that. [11/26/15 Update] Say Hello to the Light-Green Group!
magico13 replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
Guys, this is stupid. Just downright embarrassing. And frankly a little infuriating. And no, I'm not talking about the Light Green Group (had some of you scared for a moment, didn't I?) No, what's silly is that we're having a single person who is obviously quite limited in free time rearranging a list of close to 150 people. Um, guys, what are you viewing this post on? That's right, some sort of computer (mobile is a bit iffy, but you get the idea) and what are computers good at? Stuff like arranging a list of people in a descending order. So, I wrote a program that puts the Light Green Group in order and formats it (not fully yet, still working on a few things) for the forum, to make updating the list take 15 minutes instead of weeks. I'm certainly fine with Endersmens doing it manually if he prefers, but I figured this might help speed up the process a bit I've still got a few finishing touches to put on (I want to add links to the profile pages when you click the names, if that's alright) and I need to add a few "config" options (like what to say for 6, 5, 4, etc bars, and which file paths to use for the input/output). Right now it will automatically pull the top rep users from the forums in order, grab their "descriptions" (including if their name should be colored) from a file, then print out a file fit for the forum and split by how many bars they have. If they're new, their description is just set to "None yet!". Once I finish it up, I'll post it, but here is the LGG as of about 15 minutes ago Edit: Please look for any mistakes, and if you have requests let me know sooner, rather than later. I can attempt to add automatic detection of White Bar Group members (they're in the description file but not in the search results). HarvesteR was spelled wrong on the official list, so his name didn't get recognized. I've fixed that locally. Btw, this only took like 2 hours to write the code for, which is undoubtedly less time than Endersmens has spent trying to update the list manually. Shoulda asked us modders ages ago to help you out Edit2: Doesn't do well with spaces in the name. Working on that right now. Sorry everyone who falls under that umbrella. Just change the deployment pressure up to about 0.5 or so and deploy them when you drop the stage. They'll automatically deploy when they get low enough and by that point they should be well below the 250 m/s required speed. Just watch out for mountains. Note that if they go out of physics range (22.5km) before hitting the ground, they'll be deleted by KSP and you won't be able to recover them for funds without other mods.

[1.1.2] B.R.O.K.E. - Beta 4 - 05/26/2016 - Now with gameplay!
magico13 replied to magico13's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Hmm, I was linking those from mobile without reading through entirely. I'm looking into it more now (though I should be working ). If it's true that it requires a specific version, then that is a problem. I'll test this tonight and let you know if it is indeed a problem. If it is, then I'll need to think of a workaround (which might just be to keep the version number the same, as you said). Thankfully, the BROKE core shouldn't need to change except for KSP updates once I get it set up, since most features will actually just be Funding Modifiers. Edit: I did find this snippet on the actual msdn website, which might lead to something useful. Edi2: Everything I'm reading about strong-named assemblies makes it sound like you have to very deliberately make a strong-named assembly (with a private key and manually running some things). I don't recall ever doing this and it doesn't look like Visual Studio does by default. So maybe it won't be an issue?... It's very unclear to me at the moment. I'll do some testing when I get home and report back. If I can ignore version checking then it will make life much, much easier. I do believe you're correct in that we can't do version redirection as we don't have access to the appropriate configuration files. Plus then anyone wanting to reference BROKE would have to make those changes, at which point it's easier just to do our own informal versioning and just keep the assembly at 1.0. -

magico13 replied to magico13's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Just don't do a strong reference and it won't care about version numbers at all (see here and here). So that should take care of version checking, and I can always write up a really simple piece of code that checks if BROKE is installed and returns the version number that people can use if they want, since that's ridiculously easy to do using reflection. So I think it'll be OK on that front Load order shouldn't matter I think, because BROKE handles creating the instances of the classes that extend IFundingModifier. Since C# doesn't error due to a missing reference until runtime, and only if that reference is directly needed (aka, calling a function that uses another function in the referenced .dll), it actually should act as a soft dependency. BROKE initializes everything in Start(), so by that time all other .dlls should be loaded, and as long as the other mods don't initialize the IFundingModifiers themselves (which is wrong) then the reference to BROKE should never be explicitly needed. Which should hopefully mean you can build with a hard dependency, but it'll still work just fine even if BROKE's not installed Basically what it boils down to is that I'm gonna touch the version because it drives me absolutely nuts when I'm debugging things and the version numbers are all 1.0.0.0 Note: I haven't tested all of this yet. I'll let you know what ends up actually happening when I do test it. I am making the assumption that all .dlls get loaded, even ones that don't include a monobehaviour. If so, you'll be able to have addons for BROKE that aren't even fully developed "mods" perse, which would be cool for some reason. -
[1.1.2] B.R.O.K.E. - Beta 4 - 05/26/2016 - Now with gameplay!
magico13 replied to magico13's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Just a quick update, I haven't forgotten about this but I've just been working on it slowly when not working on other things. I've officially decided to go for B.R.O.K.E. (pun intended), since I like that name and if for some reason the "Kerbal" aspect needed to be removed in the future, it can easily keep the same name. Though I'm using "Economy" instead of "Employment" as it's a bit more general, resulting in "Banking Resources, Overheads & Kerbal Economy (B.R.O.K.E.)", so thank you to Rokanov for the suggestion! I don't have anything working quite yet as I'm still finalizing the core. It's really, really easy to add new Funding Modifiers (things that trigger each quarter or year and either add funds or remove them). It does require referencing the core BROKE dll, but you don't have to register anything in BROKE and you don't even have to use a MonoBehaviour. A simple .dll with a class that implements BROKE.IFundingModifier is all that's needed (plus an implementation of all the methods defined in that interface). BROKE finds every class that implements IFundingModifier and handles them itself. There are even functions to define some GUIs to show additional information or to provide configuration options. Hopefully it makes creating new sources of funding, or new things to pay for, very easy to do, even for new programmers. I might even be able to distill it into a reduced form suitable for definition in a config file. To see an example Funding Modifier, here is the test one I've been using for testing things: https://github.com/magico13/BROKE/blob/master/BROKE/FundingModTest.cs If it wasn't obvious, I've got the GitHub set up and you are free to take a look and offer some suggestions. Things are still very WIP at the moment, and now is a good time for feature requests (maybe do them as new Issues please, so I don't lose track of them). I've also set up a Jenkins project for BROKE on my build server where you can grab the latest builds as they get pushed to GitHub. Depending on my schedule this week, I'd maybe like to get the core finalized and start working on the first of the Funding Modifiers (things like government funding and kerbal payroll right off the bat, then adding in building maintenance costs, active flight crew costs, etc. later on down the line). Edit: Super, duper, early screenshots which are subject to MUCH change: With the Funding Modifier's MainGUI not drawn: And with the Funding Modifier's MainGUI drawn (BROKE core puts it inside a Vertical and its own ScrollView): -
Recover parts not money
magico13 replied to clivman's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, I did say I was planning on splitting the part recovery mechanics out into a separate mod (I've written that mod twice now, but they were both collaborations where the other party has disappeared). I also figured I'd at least mention KCT, since people visiting this thread may find that KCT does meet what they're looking for, even if it doesn't meet what you're looking for. Also, KCT's one of the most configurable mods available right now, where you can turn off any aspects you don't care for (like pad recovery, or even build times) and can go so far as to completely redefine all of the calculations the mod uses in a config file, rather than needing to recompile the mod. But yes, KCT's part inventory was designed to provide an additional incentive to building reusable craft, because the stock game's mechanic of returning funds doesn't provide that incentive. Even if you recover parts themselves but can sell them, that's really not much different than what the game does now. The way the game does it now is to provide the most flexibility and simplicity, adding a part inventory just provides an artificial limitation to the game, which you can easily just emulate yourself by using the same parts in new craft. I was also thinking about creating a gameplay mod where you start out with 3 kerbals and a single ship in orbit, and you can't build new ships with new parts. Instead you'd have to scrounge the solar system for parts, recovering some to create new ships, and reactivating mining bases to fuel your exploration. For this, a part inventory would be an absolute necessity. -
Recover parts not money
magico13 replied to clivman's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Somehow no one has mentioned Kerbal Construction Time in any of this, which has a very similar mechanic regarding a part inventory. I've toyed around with the idea of recovering parts themselves instead of getting funds, and am still tentatively planning on releasing that into a separate mod (but that's been planned since a year ago, but just hasn't happened). Currently what happens with KCT is you still get the funds, but the parts are also added to the part inventory and make future builds take substantially less time. Another option with KCT is to recover an entire craft directly into storage. When you do that, you have to refuel it manually in the editor, but parachutes and such get reset properly, and otherwise it's the exact same craft. The recover a vessel to storage process doesn't always work properly though (KSP isn't a big fan of transforming a Vessel back into a ShipConstruct, especially when mods add additional PartModules to them). -
I am not even sure how that could happen... All the code does is try to make a craft file from a vessel, then calls the normal recovery code. I can't begin to imagine how that would result in such an explosive adventure, though I don't doubt that it did. Definitely sounds like a fair time to load the quicksave that KCT makes before trying to run that code.

So, I kept working on the multiple launchpads. Fixed a good number of bugs, improved the handling of destroyed objects (no longer a single destroyed/not destroyed variable, but instead keeps track of every destructible [like fuel tanks, the flag pole, etc]). Please do some testing, and after I get at least one vote of approval saying it's bug free enough I'll release it as 1.2.3 (small caveat, anyone who used build 150 to 153, I think your saves aren't compatible. I can fix them if you upload them)

KCT Birthday Stream is going live, right here: http://www.twitch.tv/themagico13 Gonna be trying to develop multiple launchpads. We'll see how far I can get Edit: After 4 and a half hours, the stream is finished! Thanks to everyone who stopped by By the end I had a working, but still quite buggy, implementation of multiple launchpads. After all the bugs have been tracked down, then I'll release it as 1.2.3 (probably not today). For those of you who want to test out what I came up with, download the latest .dll from here. The video should be up on Twitch for the next week or so, here. It would have been nice to talk to a few more KCT users (would have been a great time to request features ) but it was fun nonetheless. I'm not sure if I'll do another development stream in the future or not, I'll let you all know if I do Edit2: Apparently a small portion got muted :/ Which is lame because I was playing music from NoCopyrightSounds, which was supposedly OK for streaming. It was only about 5 minutes out of 4 hours, so there's plenty of video that's totally fine.
