I was once launching a refueling tanker when a design flaw caused it to explode, peppering its flight path with a little debris. I was tabbing through the debris, watching it spin about when I noticed the purple object marker zip across my screen. Jebediah station, with six Kerbals on board had passed by just 200m from the debris field at a relative velocity of about 1000m/s. Needless to say I was concerned. Not quite Kessler syndrome but another time I was docking with another station and I jettisoned the small engine and fuel tank now that I was up close. I had attached Separatrons to it to push it away, but I guess they weren't aligned perfectly, because it spiraled around and took one of the solar arrays of the station. I felt a bit stupid after that.

All of my planes and SSTO designs have an abort feature due to the number that crash, unfortunately the design isn't particularly effective on the runway, which is where I crash most often. But to be honest 90% of the planes I put in the air never land (for a huge variety of reasons, but mainly because I'm an awful pilot), those Kerbals only survive because of the abort feature. My manned rockets always have a parachute and if it's not a dedicated lander, a decoupler for the manned module as well. I don't remember the last time I lost a Kerbal on a rocket launch. As for my unmanned rockets, I just let them explode in a spectacular fashion.

Still trying to develop a functional SSTO, as of yet I still can't quite reach orbit. It's very frustrating, but makes for some cool pics

Managed to reach Eeloo on my fourth attempt. Got my rover probe landed, very happy with myself. It's a lonely place Chances are it'll stay that way. My current standard transfer stage can only just reach Eeloo with a probe lander, Kerbals won't be going until I can bring them back.

Obviously Jeb, Bill and Bob are legends, but I was wondering if anyone had any other Kerbals they were particularly fond of? Personally I'm always careful to keep Desberry and Adbert safe. Adbert because he's my spaceplane test pilot (frankly it's a miracle he isn't dead already), and Desberry because he once survived being inside a space station as it de-orbited. What about the rest of you?

Possibly my greatest accidental moment of brilliance. On my first manned interplanetary mission I had Jeb and two others whose names I can't remember (not Bill and Bob) orbiting Eve to test my ability to do planetary transfers. I burned back for Kerbin; the node I had created resulted in skipping through Kerbin's SOI so I expected to have to do course corrections as anyone would. The result of the burn was, purely by luck, a direct intercept. Over millions of miles of space, Jeb managed to hit Kerbin dead on; I didn't have to do any corrections at all on my return. I landed on land near the equator and was unbelievably proud of my Kerbals.

I just thought this was a nice pic; Kerbals contemplating existence, or more likely dinner

Launching a rescue mission to Duna to rescue Jeb, Bill and Tomemy. They're just sitting in orbit right now, completely out of fuel. I've got 2 transfer stages coming to push both the lander and command module back to Kerbin.

Store History of Kerbals
Brapness replied to Deejay2000's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If you check your persistent file, I think it already logs your spacecraft history under progress - you know, what planets its orbited, how far its travelled-, I don't think it would be a massive leap to do the same for individual Kerbals. I agree with ravener, I think it may be planned. In fact having looked at the persistent file again, it appears all command pods and probe bodies have a hidden 'trip logger' module that records where they flew, flew-by, orbited and suborbited, adding a similar thing for the crew and storing it shouldn't be too hard -
May I suggest a 21 SRB salute? I'm sure it's what he would have wanted

We all know the Kraken is not dead, merely sleeping, and when she wakes she mustn't be able to threaten our Kerbals. As for calamari, I've never been much of a fan of squid, I prefer chicken. Now if you know of any space chickens...

The launcher is not particularly interesting. It just limps into orbit if you follow a good trajectory. As for how it flies, surprisingly straight - until you need to turn, at which point you might as well start praying The interplanetary stage was just 2 of these. They just managed a one-way trip to Jool pushing the cage, where I docked another 2 in order to insert into Bop orbit. As for how they flew, very, very slowly...

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/45523-For-my-Kerbals Nothing much...just caged the Kraken

Recently I posted a thread asking for suggestions for how I should honor a large number of Kerbals I lost in a Kraken glitch. After firing a 21 SRB salute and losing a further 3 kerbals who were spectating a plan formed in my mind. Now after much effort I present to you the culmination of my plans. You see retribution against the kraken is difficult. Conventional weapons are useless, but space must be made safe for all Kerbalkind. So... 540 parts and 130 tonnes of cage. You can guess that it is extremely difficult to fly. Justice is done

Shortly before entering Jool's SOI, Jeb and Bill jettisoned their empty fuel containers. Unknowingly they also jettisoned their friendly robot rover too. The rover hit Jool head on, it was doing 10,000m/s when it hit the atmosphere, pulled 80g's during its death dive.

Bill, having just found the Kraken, decided to do what any great explorer would do. He stuck a flag on it.

I'm presently in the design stage of a my most ambitious project yet, which is a large scale construction project in the Jool system. It will likely take several weeks but I promise to post it here once it's underway/done... I'm also still searching for Russel's teapot. In the meantime here's a pic of my Munbase's new comm tower

Not my Finest Landing

Woops double post

God I had to read that four times to figure out what you were saying, very good sir 570: Luddite kerbals that smash your rockets and question whether kerbals should go to space
-
Do you ever get the feeling you're being watched?
-
Stuck waiting for 0.21, so I decided, since I'd been to Duna and in orbit around eve, I'd land on their moons for the first time
-
Would've been the perfect pic if Jeb had put the flag up right...
-
Got that covered, my 21 SRB salute (2 kerbals died watching)

My space program's new prime directive : FIND THE TEAPOT! Thank you sir, this will likely keep me occupied for the rest of my life (Number 497 made me laugh my head off)
