BSC: Aeris 4a - AND THE WINNER IS:
cyberklad replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Oh it's just Jeb pushing the big red button that says: "Eject a wing!" The writing on the button was probably a bit small and Jeb was curious about it's function. -
Project Geospace Challenge - Who needs Kerbol?
cyberklad replied to a topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm not quite sure what the challenge here actually is. doing a good bunch of launches and docking them together sounds like you are suposed to stuff a big ship up into orbit and then blast it out of the solar system. is that right ? From your post it's allso quite unclear how you intend to make a scoring system from this. Maybe the challenge is to make a ion powered huge mothership. That has a 3 day burn time. Just to make the most boring video ever recorded in KSP' history ? -
Lowest mass to orbit and back
cyberklad replied to ttnarg's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Wheter or not it says orbit on the speed indicator doesn't matter. if you click on it with the mouse it swaps between orbital speed and surface speed. So you can be sitting on the ground and show what orbital speed you have. Sillychris: If you take a look at the orbital information provided by mechjeb you can see what the periapsis is in my entry. If you take a look you will see that it's allmost at 160km -
"Gravity" Super Challenge
cyberklad replied to Alex_Leonardo's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Are you sure you don't want to wait for a mod that has an fire extinguisher before you launch this challenge ? and ofcourse demand that has to be the only eva fuel source for the trip ? -
[SCENARIO] "Planetes": Kerbal Redux
cyberklad replied to ihtoit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
What if you build an SSTO that can perform several launches without refueling ? Lets say that you go up into orbit, pick up a tank and then use the SSTO to land the tank and deposit it somewhere at the KSC and then repeat the process ? Would that be a penalty or a bonus ? -
SSTKE - Single Stage to Kerbol Escape
cyberklad replied to capi3101's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Not really. IT has a horribly high score for a VAB vehicle because of a pretty high part count for such a small vehicle and the tech is in the more advanced part of the tech tree. If anyone want the craft file I can post it. -
Lowest mass to orbit and back
cyberklad replied to ttnarg's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
This thing has more then enough fuel for orbit. It could take a trip to minimus and back. It weighs in at 3.05T at the launchpad. I did overshoot the landing a bit and ended up in the ocean a bit out from the spacecentre tho. -
SSTKE - Single Stage to Kerbol Escape
cyberklad replied to capi3101's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Messing around with a jet and ion powered little vehicle. This thing has more then enough delta v from it's ion engines to go interstellar. But it can be a bit tricky to time the jet part right. You need to hit high speed and a altitude where you can start your ion engines as you run out of jet fuel to keep the craft as light as possible for the next stage. -
This looks like a challenge to build a powered sail plane launcher. A rail gun is something completely diffrent.

Here it is. End weight is 8.547t -
SSTKE - Single Stage to Kerbol Escape
cyberklad replied to capi3101's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
You want a screenshot from just before it acheves an interstellar orbit ? Would it be oki if I I burned a bit retrograde, grab a screen of that and then break orbit again ? I should have plenty of delta v to do those two maneuvers. -
SSTKE - Single Stage to Kerbol Escape

You allso have far that reduces the requirements to get into orbit by over 1k delta v. -
SSTKE - Single Stage to Kerbol Escape
cyberklad replied to capi3101's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Quite a nice craft to fly. Got interstellar with over 900M/s of delta v left. And has some solar panels so it should stay alive for a good bit of the 68 years it will take it to reach interstallar space. It gets up to 30.000M before it runs out of air. and can achieve 2100m/s and start to gain some climbing speed before it runs out of jet fuel. I wish more people would read http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24898-Challenge-Submission-Guide so that we could have less spam and maybe some challenges that makes sence.

Can you Build my satellite from Stock Only?
cyberklad replied to AlamoVampire's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I made this copy. It's 5,4t with the oxidizer from the large tank removed. I can upload the craft file for it if it' wanted so that we all can do the challenge with the exact same satelite. -
Somone should make a modded hitchiker container to allow it to carry a couple of million or billion kerbals. Then you just stick a number of those together and hyperedit it into a 100x20km orbit. Should give a nice score. And since this challenge has no rules or anything other then it need to fall out of orbit specified it seems to fit the "challenge" Oh yeah. Would need some parachutes too.

no.. just no.

You should probably read the challenge subition guide.

Satellite Launch Challenge
cyberklad replied to AlamoVampire's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
From what I can see Kasuha was adressing a couple of possible solutions for this chalenge when you go out and rant at him. From my point of view that puts the rudeness and insults in your corner. If one skips kerbin orbit and justs burns into an escape trajectory. Furfilling the screenshots rules would be quite hard. Burning directly into a escape trajectory takes quite a bit less delta v then first getting an orbit and then escaping. Are we allowed to do that ? It would allso be nice if you could make a stock version of the satelite you want launched. I'm not going to install the mods to do the challenge. -
Hydrazine Space Program
cyberklad replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
34 parts + the rcs tank and the capsule. It gets to an 80x80km orbit with more then enough fuel to deorbit and land safely. Could spare 5 fuel lines, but then one would have to balance fuel manually. When I stick a mechjeb part on it to thest the weight it weighs in at 85,67t. The flight was done all stock. -
How far can you go with 1,000 Kerbucks?
cyberklad replied to mr_yogurt's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
With a huge amount of luck and a good bit of skill, you can plow a probe into duna with the example craft. But to do that you need to get the launch window exactly and you need to have a perfect trajectory on launch. The problem is that one can't afford a solar panel to keep the craft charged for midway course corrections. I have goten a probe like that to orbit the sun on a eliptic orbit that is between kerbal orbit and duna orbit. But my lanch window was off. -
Another huge problem with this challenge is that it asks for a spaceplane SSTO that can barely get into orbit. If you desing an efficient plane that can get into orbit you load it up with liquid fuel and air breathing engines to do most of the heavy lifting. Without air abusing air intakes you can get a plane that can push itselfe up to a bit ove 30k on air breathing engines alone. And then you just carry enough oxidizer for the last push and circulization. This means that even if you put a well designed craft that is soppused to be a shuttle to LKO on the top of a rocked. And you blast that one into LKO It will most likely go nowhere pretty slowly. So to try to excecute this challenge in the spirit of the title. Well then you would need to build a SSTO rocket. Building a single stage rocket that has an atmospheric delta v of 4600, it gets to be quite big.
-
The challenge removes every advantage that a SSTO spaceplane is supposed to have over a big rocket. Sending a plane up on top of a rocket is just wasteful. If one could send a SSTO up into orbit, and then refuel it before setting off on a mission to see how far you could get. Well people might not be as eager to use any advantage they can make. After all, junk in, junk out. If one took a challenge like this. And supplied a craft that was to be used. A craft that has enough fuel to get into orbit and to a refueling station. And let people shoot the stoc refueler into orbit. Then see how far people could get that vehicle, that would have been a good and fun challenge. The craft could have for example 1 nerva and two of those rapier engines. And the amount of fuel that can carry out into orbit. Since everyone would fuel the craft to capacity. probably in a 100km orbit. The challenge would be equal for everyone. And most important of all, the challenge would make sense in a practical sort of manner. Since there is well allmost endless of diffrent designers, and probably more diffrent crafts. You will never manage to get a contest in the spirit of the name of the challenge.
