Metal fluoride passivation sounds like a pretty good answer actually, assuming that the mechanical properties of the layer are sufficient. Teflon probably wont get damaged by ozone/fluoride (IIRC all those fluorine atoms protect the C-C bonds from oxidation) but it is an oxidiser in its own right and would probably react with the fuel. Very heat resistant, but in the presence of strong oxidising agents? I know that Tungsten Carbide reacts strongly with chlorine, unsure what that says about WHfC in Fluorine.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread
p1t1o replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It wont have the same effect. Humans are roughly the same density as water, so the "floating" is what supports your body. We sink in air, so does blood, so there needs to be a pressure differential, which is uncomfortable and limited by the pressure difference the body can handle between feet and head, and the pressure needs to be adjusted with changes in G - this is exactly how modern G-suits work, and pressure-breathing prototypes. In water, the pressure differential is caused by the mass of the water and corresponding pressure, and exactly (ish) matches similar pressure changes within the body, meaning the blood "floats" where it is and doesnt pool in your feet (or wherever). A fluid bath also does not require any active pressure management and cannot fail under load (unless gross structural failure of the tank). Note that a compressed air system requires heavy tankage, plumbing, pumps etc. which offset the weight advantage against a simple fluid filled pod which might only require a mass of a couple hundred kilos of fluid. If you're accelerating at 10-plus G's, it seems like saving a few kilos here and there might not have been a primary design requirement. -
You'd have to make the turbine out of something that wont be consumed by a high pressure mix of ozone and fluorine at several hundred degrees. Something more inert than Nitrogen or Carbon Dioxide...Any idea what that material might be?

Unknown, probably ok-ish, though I hear around that the big names (Norton, McAffee) are generally the worst. They are either defeated first, or they are just a pain in the neck (take tons of resource, un-shut-downable, borderline un-uninstallable). I can only recommend what I use, I paid a one-off fee for malwarebytes for a permanent subscription but the free version has most of the same features (though Ive not used that version for a while). Its done enough for me that Im confident in its effectiveness. Its also super-not-annoying. No experience with it, but looks legit at first glance. Our first computer was a 286 with 640kb of RAM and a 2MB HD and a pre-microsoft OS. OK that makes me sound really old, but I was like 5. **** Possibly useful links: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_commercial_video_games_released_as_freeware https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_open-source_video_games Check out "abuse", it rocked way back when. Looks like many of the early Command & Conquer games are available straight from EA. **** Its not what you are looking for but in case anyone is interested: Filehippo is a good and safe website for free software, but they dont do games. Good place for free (and good) anti-malware. Spybot-search-and-destroy and Ad-Aware are good, and there are some removal tools if you get a pernicious case of something nasty. disclaimer - any advice I give on computers...or anything really...is to be taken or left, final call rests with the computer owner

Naturally, find a reputable site. However, since its quite a niche topic, "reputable" will only come in degrees. And no anti-virus software can be 100.0% effective. Yup, downloading them onto an independent, air-gapped disk is one of the few really secure ways to access downloaded media. But to be honest, you'll probably be fine with at least some kind of antimalware program ("malwarebytes" is top-notch, I believe they still do a free version, although by some reports the windows 10 security suite is quite good on its own), a vaguely reputable site, and just give everything a scan before you open or run anything. Back up important stuff if you're really paranoid. Theres bound to be some decent sites out there that collect this stuff for posterity. Theres a ton of more recent-ish software as well that has been released on public domain jsut because they are too old to market anymore. I think the original REd Alert is one. I think this might actually be the first time this millenium, that I heard or saw the word "shareware"

So, you have a plane on a conveyor belt...
p1t1o replied to Randazzo's topic in Science & Spaceflight
All of these are allowed via various equally valid interpretations of the question. This is not a science riddle, its a language riddle. Does that sound obnoxious? Thats because its from a class of obnoxious problems. I mean no disrespect to the OP -
So, you have a plane on a conveyor belt...

"Speed of wheels" is problematic to me. Is it the linear speed of the hub with respect to the ground? Or it could be the speed of the outer rim with respect to the hub, or it could be an RPM value, and there could be other interpretations as well. There are interpretations that result in the plane not moving, interpretations that result in the plane taking off as normal and interpretations where the plane is launched forwards. This question urines me off because the challenge is most certainly not figuring out what the plane will do, its a challenge of "Can you interpret this really awkward-to-word problem in spite of me wording it deliberately vaguely. Whilst you umm-and-aahh I will laugh in a haughty manner at my own perceived intellectual superiority." Exactly as you say, if the question is stated clearly, the answer is obvious. It reminds me of that really annoying "riddle": "A mugger kills a woman, he steals her phone, her wallet and her keys - what is the first thing the thief takes?" "HER LIFE!!" Everyone answers immediately "Nope, first he takes a breath" the complete urine-taker smugly replies. -
Ah-ha, yep those are all good reasons. I knew I should have gone straight to Ignition...

Has Ozone (O3) ever been considered as an oxidiser? Its a little more potent than O2 in terms of oxidising potential, more reactive though, and more toxic.

Its being touted as very likely to be picked up by another network. Brooklyn 99 was also cancelled recently and is being picked back up by NBC.

Or those who cant recognise the models on sight I've seen the tall one and the one that looks like a regular car.

Hot sunny day. Just grabbing a coffee from the office machine to take with me to lunch. I have one chocolate biscuit left. Its *very* chocolatey. According to the pack its "over 60% dark chocolate". This will be important later. I have my keys and office pass in one hand and my coffee in the other. "Ill just stick this [biscuit] in my pocket until I get to the car." <thinking to myself, chuckling> "lol this is just what 6-year-old p1t1o would do, store unwrapped snacks directly in my pocket! But Im going to eat it in the car, it'll be fine." It wasnt fine. I forgot about the biscuit for about 3 hours after spending my lunch hour sat in my hot car in the sun when I put my hand in my pocket for some reason "WHAT THE F - oooooooooooooohhhhhh noooooooooo...." facepalm

Went to Amsterdam at new years, they have a whole thing there where inner city taxis have to be Teslas (or maybe they just have to be electric, but I think the Tesla is the only non-hybrid that isnt essentially a golfcart. And they have a subsidised exchange thing going on so they're quite cheap to buy there), so they're everywhere. They're becoming more common here in the UK, and charging stations are popping up left and right. I think I'd like one, but its a shame they have such a reputation for shoddy build quality.

How do you test if dust is a problem for martian choppers? You send a tiny little one to go find out

Please guys, please. According to my calculations Im at least 12 hours away from the nearest bacon opportunity, can we please talk about something less mouthwatering. Wet cardboard. wrapped in bacoDANGIT

Im trying, but I cant think of any food that wouldnt be improved. Chocolate. A twinkie. Lettuce. Bacon. KFC. A steak. Mashed potatoes. Chewy strawberry sweets. Cake. Ok it might not go well with minty chewing gum, but nothing does.

@adsii1970 It didnt help that I was feeling adventurous and bought something that looked tasty without being able to understand the packaging. In hindsight, the sweets being fish-shaped should have been a red flag lol

Anyone ever tried that salty licquorice from Scandinavia?

@kerbiloid If I ever win the lottery Im having them all swapped out with identical tungsten carbide replacements.

Toothache. Should have gone to the dentist a long time ago. Gonna need a root canal I think.

Birds in London have learned to chirp at night, because during the day it is hard to chirp over the sound of traffic.

I think its clear that Kerbals are very highly resistant to radiation damage, so they dont need sunscreen.

Isnt there some unusual junk like amazon technically still owns all kindles, or they own the content on them or something? TBH I think the kindle fire (thats the version we're talking about right?) is a bit of a non product. Its lost the simplicity of form of the "normal" kindles, it doesnt have the e-ink screen which was the whole point of e-readers, its heavy and compared to similar tablets its woefully under-functioned. It works, but its a substandard tablet, and a substandard e-reader. But as an amazon storefront its perfect. Its not a product, its a shop, the only service it excels at is accessing amazon. Amazon are selling Amazon shops to people and if that isnt business genius, I dont know what is. The regular kindles though? Love'em. I'd recommend sticking the tablet on ebay, buy a regular kindle (or put it toward a real tablet) with the proceeds and have enough change left over for a nice meal
