Could it perhaps be related to something something throttling? Allows a deeper range of thrust variation compared to a turbopump based cycle?

Change The Sun dynamics back!
p1t1o replied to Potato3478's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
So what Im hearing is yet another "update" caused a degradation in quality, with an vague implication that it would be "fixed" or "improved" at a later update. Gawd these blinking updates... If the updates keep coming at this pace and pevel of impact, I am never going to play KSP again. That not a "Im boycotting KSP!!" comment, its a practical one. I've played unfinished KSP, 100s of hours of it. Then it was released at v.1.0 and I played it some more. Until wheels we're completely screwed up by a big "update". And since then it has remained in a perpetual state of "just wait until the next update fixes things". Yes, I know 1.2.2 (or whichever) has been the most stable and feature-complete version, but Im still waiting for fixes and updates and yet more fixes for the updates. And now a new unity version? Call me pessimistic but if that doesnt break some more stuff, I'll eat my hat. Figuratively. I just cant bring myself to really get back into KSP for another few hundred hours whilst it is still being fixed. And it IS still being fixed. Im understanding of the complexity of defeating all known bugs, but why introduce more?! /rant -
Are we absolutely sure they *promised*? What "lies" have they actually told? "We are going to add multiplayer in the future" - is not a lie if during development it turns out not to be practical. Nor is it really a "promise" to break either. Did they say anything more concrete than that? Because if they did, it would have been the first/only time in KSP history. I take it nobody has bought KSP *specifically* based on a hope that it will be multiplayer in the indistinct "future". That would be really silly.

FunFact #2: Its jet engine is an EJ200 that otherwise would be powering an RAF Typhoon. *** Honestly, Im of the opinion that "land" speed records are pretty moot now. The challenge is no longer getting the vehicle up to speed, the challenge is keeping it rolling along the ground, and at this point, doing that is so much more difficult that it is more of a "land robustness record" than anything else. Its the wheels that are the engineering marvel in machines like this, the engines are just off-the-shelf tech. The last SSC used engines from an F-4 phantom - a jet which first flew in 1958! (though Im guessing the engines were uprated since the first year of service) Its basically a "quite fast but not groundbreaking" aircraft being flown really badly. Or really brilliantly, depending on how you look at it. But i cant in any way see these vehicles as "land based" any more than if you rolled an ocean liner along the motorway on a set of logs. Literally all you have to do is add some control surfaces and its now a quite-fast plane that wont break any records. Maybe it would have a shot at some time-to-height records? I dunno. Heck, the danged thing probably already has control surfaces, I wonder if you couldnt just steer it upwards.

So it took me 6 minutes and a badly cut hand, but I've ripped out the ceiling tile and now Im getting dirty looks. What now?

Democracy sucks. In trying to make everyone happy, it makes nobody happy. Cant we just find ONE guy. ONE guy who isn't in it for his own gain. And all agree that he's in charge? Nothing could be worse than perpetual arguing over which of the identical candidates is the devil, followed by an election that gives a non-result that disappoints everybody. I have heard the term "Benevolent dictator" or "Benign dictator" anecdotally described as the best possible form of government. Rather than having multiple choices and voting, meaning that inevitably, large portion of the population are disappointed, you have one person who makes all the decisions. BUT, they *have* to be impervious to corruption, competent at the machinations of government, and really pretty "good". And it kinda strikes me as true. But it requires (at least) one truly good and competent person. And Im not sure if there is even one.

Petition to include all 2013 purchases for free DLC
p1t1o replied to CjStaal's topic in KSP1 Discussion
NOOOOOO I DONT WANT MICROTRANSACTIONS!!!! WHY WOULD SQUAD DO THAT TO US!!!! Good thing they have never, ever been considered for KSP then and all mention of microtransactions is the barest speculation based on nothing. -
@StupidAndy Dont sweat it, it sucks, but you'll meet a ton of like minded people when you go to university/college. (There's many perfectly excellent pathways that dont involve university/college, ofc, but I consider the social aspects of university to be one of the main advantages, you learn a lot.)

Petition to include all 2013 purchases for free DLC
p1t1o replied to CjStaal's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Oh noooo, what is this? Petitioning for free stuff? Dont get me wrong, I want free stuff, I want the DLC for free (Im only just not eligible). I also want a BMW M3, a pilots license, liquid cash is always welcome natch, I'd like a big house with a garden that isnt too far from London and most of all I want to know when is the best time to get into the virtual reality market. But I also know that petitioning for any of those things would be quite....I'll just go with "ineffective". I wont' even touch on what I would call any discussion on why I should be entitled to those things. Plz stahp. -
Change is good, especially if we want the cannon to move on significantly. Which it has to do with some urgency as there are rumours that the Golden Throne is failing.

I guess I didnt mean "constant" as in "often" but in the way that as soon as an update arrives, there is something to be fixed or added, and they commonly require mods to be updated. Since 1.0 there hasn't been a period where nothing needed fixing and looked forward to in the next update. And I wouldn't hold it against anyone who has created a mod, to be frustrated at having to revise it even just a few times in a year - what if they are into something else by now? Im not trying to say there is anything wrong, just asking a few questions, I mean no offence
-
Hi All, How are modders feeling about needing to update their mods every time there is an update? Have many mods been left by the wayside due to modders moving on to other things? Modders are the ones that really make KSP come alive IMO, no disrespect to Squad at all, and I hate the idea that as updates come in I might have to discard some of the mods that I like. It takes me many hours to remake my mod build each update, is every projected updated expected to break mods? It makes sense that bug fixing and other code optimisations affect mods, but will there come a time where updates are more content-based (eg: the upcoming DLC) that wont be expected to break mods? Or should I treat the list of available mods as an ever-changing ecosystem with no two updates having the same selection available? Because I really dont like the idea that some really well established, mature mods (and frankly, many younger, smaller, but extremely useful/fun mods), might disappear of the compatible list. Modders cant be expected to maintain their mods forever. I hate being in a constant state of waiting for the next big shake-up. Thanks! P

Survey regarding Multiplayer/Singleplayer Preference in RTS games
p1t1o replied to SargeRho's topic in The Lounge
I know I was just being petty, the few times I have tried MP gaming I have met too many of "CoD types", if you know what I mean, regardless of the game being played. I can see the attraction, but its not for me. -
Survey regarding Multiplayer/Singleplayer Preference in RTS games
p1t1o replied to SargeRho's topic in The Lounge
There was no option for "multiplayer sucks butt". If I wanted to play with awful humans, I wouldnt shut myself up in my room with the blinds down on such gloriously sunny days. -
Figures. Since we know the velocity is probably very close to zero, it will be impossible to pin down the location of the electron precisely.
-
Spin...orbits....there's another joke in here somewhere...... Does anyone know how certain they are of its current location?

I've always wondered, if you went through your life entering every single "FREE PRIZE DRAW!" and scratching every free scratch card, filling in every survey and evetering every competition, lottery or otherwise competetive or probabilistic challange or marketing campaign thaht comes through your door, falls out of your magazine or appears in the back of your local paper. Everything, all of them. Taking into account how many are scams, how many offer worthless prizes but also taking into account the sheer volume that you are exposed to - could you make a decent living? Im talking every single £5 off voucher, every single nigerian prince, every competition, every write-in, phone-in, text-in, every pub quiz. Not buying lottery tickets or other paid gambles. Its seems a long shot, but you'd only have to hit big a few times, and all of the hundreds of tiny prizes would stack up. And like you say, you never know how many of these pass you by. It would only take one member of african royalty to make an ill-advised offer to a stranger to set them up for life... Theres gotta be one or two mega rich people with questionable sense out there, right? *** Related anecdote - I did read an article once about a mathematician, who spotted a trend on a particular brand of lottery scratchcard, it was one with a sort of number game on it, and he found out how to predict which ones would win, without scratching them, by examining the numbers involved in the game board. He also found that you can buy them in bulk, and that the manufacturer would buy back unscratched cards at cost price. He worked it all up, and found that if he devoted 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, to analysing cards and scratching only winners, and sending the rest back for refund, that he could break about $40k a year. Not bad for a guaranteed income, though scratching lottery cards full-time would be pretty awful after a while, but he got paid more in his current job. Before you start wondering, he reported the phenomenon and the scratchcard company fixed them up.

If the launch gets postponed due to an electrical power failure, I will literally not be able to live any more.

@Kryten - "Launch currently on hold due to weather - high clouds causing risk of triboelectrification. Updates to follow #ItsaTest" So what Im hearing is, it cant launch because there are too many electrons up there already? hehueheuhehue...SCIENCE JOKE. Im here all night folks.

For Questions That Don't Merit Their Own Thread

Ooooooh "c" hahahahaha! The capitalisation threw me, the only thing I could think of was he wanted to build boats, and go to "sea" lolol. Yeah, no, you cant really get to c in KSP. As far as I know, relativistic effects are not modelled. Which is moot because c is like, realllly fast, like super-ridiculous fast. Ludicrous even Mass ratio for a conventional ship to do this is just insane. If you want to go high relativistic with conventional reaction engines, ship sizes very quickly start reaching just stupid sizes, like solar-system sized, with 1kg of cargo (including the weight of the engines/structure/tankage etc!!!) and start taking millions of years to expend their fuel. But light speed is so fast guys I cant even... Of course, in reality, the ship would literally need to be of infinite size because relativity. But at least in that case, a large portion of your ship is at your destination already. -

@shynung @peadar1987 Agreed, I dont think that there would be much in the way of structural damage - as a plane travelling at supersonic speeds already must withstand some pretty impressive forces anyway, those forces arising from the wave some distance from the aircraft must be less. Though the aerodynamic effects could be considerable and loss of control at supersonic speeds can be catastrophic. All in all, I'd say that the mass and strength of an average supersonic airframe far outstrips the energy of a sonic boom from similar. Of course not all shockwaves are the same. The sonic boom from a 2km-wide meteor travelling at mach 25 is one heck of a lot stronger than the one that comes of a 5.56mmm rifle round. For reference, I cant remember if it was mythbusters or what, but I saw online somewhere some footage of a .50-caliber rifle firing between two closely spaced (maybe 6 inches?) rows of wine glasses. The shockwave of the projectile passing made a few of them them wobble slightly, but otherwise nothing at all happened. -
"The first Electron has arrived at the launch site" If they dont start shipping it in larger sections, it is going to take forever. huehuhehueheuhehue...SCIENCE JOKE.
