Perhaps so - but there are the rare Kerbals who don't have that surname in the lore. I guess it all depends on one's own take on the game, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.
-
I'm considering some "Krussian" names too - since the K in KRASH could as easily stand for "Krussian" as it does "Kerbal". Krussia doesn't have to be an exact Russia analog, it could (and likely should) more accurately represent the old Soviet Union (which many players may be to young to actually remember). So it could easily include Kurbyztan and even East Kermany (justifying the play on "Prussia" as well). I think, if you're looking for Krussian Kerbnonaut names, you would do well to base them off names of actual cosmonauts whose names began with K. But who could forget Yuri Kergarin, the first Kerbal in space?

Am I the only one who ignores the math,
HeadHunter67 replied to syfyguy64's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I kind of "Tony Stark" my way through everything. I don't worry about TMR or delta-v or any of that. I know it's not the "efficient" way, but I leave the calculations to the computer. I'm just about going fast and looking good, even if it ends in disaster. -
I played the demo long enough to do the tutorials, and realized I wanted MOAR.

About placing something below thrusters...
HeadHunter67 replied to Tigermisu's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm just wondering how to get it to drop the rover if I do that - without launching the lander back into space. -
Well, there's also the compound Kethane (albeit unofficial) - which, unless Propellium is a carbon analog (which makes little sense) means there's at least one more element there.

Could that conceivably be modified to be unified with a lander assembly, so that we could do something like the Apollo 15-17 missions with the ELM and the LRV? That's the kind of mission I'd really like to do, but I don't understand the intricacies of doing it in game yet. -
Today, I came up with a clever name and witty flag for my space agency.
-
Deaf3279, I would like your permission to use your Kerbin picture as the basis for my in-game flag. I have an idea that's fitting to the space agency I'm using but I don't want to share my finished work without your approval. Thank you.

How Did You Name Your Space Company/Corporation/Industry?
HeadHunter67 replied to orangexception's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Mine will be called KRASH - Kerbal Rocketry and Space Headquarters.© ™ I'll have to work on designing a flag for it. As to the "how I got the name", I hope it's obvious to anyone who's played. The logo/flag makes it even more apparent, and is a clever homage to NASA... I just want to get permission from the creator of the basic Kerbin image I used before sharing my work. -
How many quarters are in anything? See, that's what I'm trying to say. When common sense will provide the self-evident answer, a question needn't be asked.
-
Thanks, I think I figured it out. Getting a Kerbal to the Launchpad was the hardest part. I had to basically launch a spaceplane, taxi it to near the Launchpad, EVA and walk to the rocket. I can't help but think there's got to be an easier way I haven't realized.
-
Yes, and my question is still: How does one DO that? I've tried driving a Kerbal right up to the pad and going EVA, he's standing right next to the rocket. Can someone please provide me a less vague answer?
-
How do you get a Kerbal into that seat? Every time I've tried to build something with it, I'm told that the vehicle will not be controllable. Even after I add an RGU, the seat is empty when I go to launch. If someone could please help me launch my Kerbals into space on an old metal tractor seat... for SCIENCE!
-
"How many quarters are in a lacrosse game?" is an example of a bad question, so we can't quite say "there's no such thing". The OP, however, had a very reasonable question, even if it's too soon for an answer.

KSP cheapest for now on Steam or becoming even cheaper?
HeadHunter67 replied to galaxy366's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I missed the 30% off sale, wound up getting it for 10% off. I didn't feel like waiting any longer to see if it went down; I've waited too long to start this game as it is! -
Definitely, do the tutorials. Also, there are very useful tutorial videos by Pebble_Garden and Scott Manley on YouTube. Worth the time to watch them!
-
I'm not good enough at Photoshop for this, but I am reminded of Highlander and I'd love to see the Kerbgan, an immortal warrior from the steppes of Kerbgyztan.
-
Awesome! Thanks for the link. I needed a new mouse pad anyhow, might as well get some other stuff to save on shipping, eh?
-
I credit their videos with helping me get any successful flight off the ground, let alone in orbit. Without them, I'd be nothing more than a habitual low-atmo rocket crasher.
-
Can't seem to find the ones you speak of. Searched "kerbal" and found only Jeb shirts and Kerbal Comics shirts. Searched "ksp" and got lots of unrelated stuff. Any links please?

I made the same mistake as you, putting off buying the game for so long because I feared the silly little Kerbals meant that this game wasn't a "serious" spaceflight sim. How wrong I was. I realize now that the Kerbals are the comic relief that makes it possible to play this game and still stay sane. Despite failure after epic failure, the little green guys retain their enthusiastic stupidity and willingness to risk (or should I say, sacrifice) their lives for the sake of space exploration. And it's hard to feel bad even when they (or, more accurately, we) get themselves killed - after all, there's always another Kerbal willing to get in whatever flaming deathtrap we design - or slam directly into a planetary surface... or get stranded on another world... or doomed to take an endless orbit.

I tried to open them by right clicking on the panel - nothing happened. Perhaps it's possible that the probe's power was already drained by then.\ I'll take a look at the single solar panels you mentioned - are they a stock part, or part of an addon? (I loves me lots of parts packs!)
-
Thanks for the warm welcome! So here are a couple of valuable lessons I've learned in my first couple of days: 1) Q: Why won't my engine start back up to circularize my orbit at apoapsis? A: Likely answer - you're flying a probe, right? I'll bet all electrical power drained while the engine was off. Try adding a solar panel and/or a battery pack. 2) Q: How the frak do I get my solar panel to open, then? A: You need to add the actions. Click on the little blue "Action Groups" gear icon along the top center of the VAB (next to the Parts button), select one of the Custom actions and click on the solar panel. Then add the actions from the third column by clicking on them. Now, when you're in space (preferably outside atmo, but I've safely deployed them at 50k altitude over Kerbin) you can right click on the solar panel housing and select the blue button for "Extend Panel". Best to retract them when you're ready to land. I hope these little lessons learned save some other rookie pilot from crashing what would otherwise have been a successful mission.
