Jules Verne's Voyage a la Lune in KSP
Radiokopf replied to Halsfury's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well, no need to proof if possible. I took some design notes from Jules Verne.. so i hope you dont mind the docking ports. Its just for the looks i uploaded just every pic i took so i hope you dont mind looking at the same thing twice I just wanted to figur out how long it would take to build such a thing and made Orbit on first try... just added another 16 Booster to the bottom and increased the top from 3 to 6. The Plan was to use sepratrons for fine tuning orbit/trajectory but for the free return i just decupeled the boosters like a real Kerbal i would have tried to hit slingshot and dont use the M. node or make it land in one piece but this was supposed to be a quick try to get a feeling of what is the hard part... well, none found. -
As you would think this is still Work in Progress but now i can build, reful and man almost every Mission so i take a break working on the base and do some missions or play other saves. As for now: Overview: Kethane Mining: Ore Mining: The new Space Center: The Village: Observer with some Moons: Observer shot:

I was supriesed too but because of the kind mood in this forum.

I allready asked 2# and this was the answer: but with the Mod you have to put them on the Launch pad and then "build" into space.. that would have just killed the felling for me. I really like not switching from Vall and see my craft build As for 1# its stats "Planets or Moons" in the first post and does not limit the number of launches. I would love to have another one aboard. status: Curently biting my nails of trying to dock a fuel tank to a truck... i allready lost one and had to do another mining run to build the next one. I think i abandon my plans docking 2 of these to the truck and make refull runs to the kethane mining station (wich has to be deployed yet...) i will just use 2-3 tanks stationary at the pad.

Well, ive made it... 50pts + 18 Kerbals times 5pts equals 140 points. Im Roughly at Day 332 as you can see, the Crew was launched first just after opening that game. (last 2 pics) I'm quite busy with it now, what i would like to have it the Pad in the middle and one Kethane and one Ore minging Operation to each side 2,5km away. With Storage at the pad. On the last sides are the Mountain and the village with the "Tower" in the middle. Also i like to get an Observatory up on the Mountain. I will make a Tour trough the base when everything is there.

Craft loading distance?
Radiokopf replied to Radiokopf's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Thank you Could you maybe explain how i use Lazor to change it ? Could not find anything in the discription of Lazor. -
Hey, for a large base i have a question. At what distance is another craft loaded and the Physics apply ? Does it change from Planet to Plant or in Orbit ? And if i could change that distance Maybe ? Thank you

Hmm.. for me it works nicely. Maybe there you will get some Help:http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/23979-Kethane-Pack-0-7-7-Find-it-mine-it-burn-it-Happy-birthday-Kethane!-%28August-15%29

Finally Launch Day! The assembly crew and the colony parts are on its way to Jool as first rumors of the comming ice age occur. Bill and Jeb Kerman are on the "Tools" ship scaning for Kethane and Ore then land and drive around to look for a good spot to bring the Launchpad to. Bob is the commander of the Assembly Crew who will wait in Orbit. Meanwhile Engineers at the KSC will continue work on the final evac ships... but no more than 3 Launches will follow bringing around 150 Kerbals tops out of the Mess. (Mostly wealthy Kerbals or Friends of those who Work on the Ships). Also they send lots of Old and Prototype construction plans to the Outbound Flights. After that 3 Launches at day 182 Kerbin will be considerd forsaken.

Well iam no expert but ive you leave a small periapsis and you got an ETA you could calculate either the distance the planet travels or the fraction of rotations it does with this values: Sidereal rotation period 65 517.859 s 18 h 11 m 57.9 s Equatorial radius 320 000 m Sidereal rotational velocity 30.688 m/s Like 9h would be half a turn so you could adjust your longitude 180°.

As for the planning: Done in Progress Not touched yet Launch 1: Building site 2x Probe 2x Rover to scout landing site (With Landing unit) launch vehicle for 40t Launch 2: Rocket parts&Lander (containing enugh parts to get part conversion working) launch vehicle for 50t Launch 3: The construction Crew (Does not need a Tug) launch vehicle for 70t Launch 4&5: Tugs for the Cargo launch vehicle Infrastructure: Ore Truck Smelter Unit Kethane Truck Kethane Converter Unit Permanent Living Quaters Rover Orbiter/Deorbiter for Multiuse Later Plans: Make every Launcher smaller for restarting from Vall. Make a Laythe ascent rocket/plane Make a Space Station from several tiny launches. Make atmosphere planets possible (brute force chutes on everything) Make a Duna ascent rocket So far so good.. well i dislike the desgin everything before you go thing. Rocket Parts & Lander: Launch Window: Day 46

Well, you could make it anywhere within 1 years for less than 10Km/s Dv... still this restriction does not make any sense but to make a final deadline so we all count our points at the same ingame time. But then i would rather have 3-4 categories 1 , 5 and 10 years as well as open end, maybe with Bonus points for the hard to reach Planets. Makeing Eeloo under a years with this kind of payload deserves some bonus.

I will use Launchpad mod... i dont like the Kethane converter from Orbital and also that you have to put it on the launchpad and then "build" it. Just does not give the feeling. I still have a few issues, cancel the debug mode, fixing the Launchpad.dll, Fixing the smelter... now not Stock parts still cost silly amounts of Rocket parts. A very small 13 part craft with mods is shown with 31k of Rocketparts Still here is a first test: The new version does not give me free Kerbals. Thats what i hoped for Now the Smelter and Converter are not working properly (FIXED!) when i fix that and the Mod parts building i can go plan the Mission (FIXED by cheating the pad and the Hexcanlarge Max rocket parts to 1000, until Launchpad mod is fixed (The Dev states in the Topic that within the nexed days a fix with better Conversion/Build rates goes online). So this could be considert cheating, if so i will wait for the fix to enter this challenge Now Planning Phase! Done in Progress Not touched yet 1 or 2 Launches for Cargo: Building site Rocket parts (containing enugh parts to get part conversion working) Probe Rover to scout landing site (With Landing unit) 1 Crew launch for the construction workers with short time living quarters. Then build up the base and evaluating if i can start up the same from Vall again (to every non Atmosphere body with less than Tylo gravity) here some first glimpses at the Rover: Love that view <3 Lets see if i can get some nice shots of Jools moon's when iam on Vall. I Build it with a Dockable lander that can make a Tylo decent (or i least i hope so)

http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/orbitalcon-redux-2/ Are Orbital Colonies Allowed too ? (We still would need to get Kethane from the Ground) Edit: Well, im in anyway... destination of choice is Vall. If KSC shuts down at day 200 you just could Launch everything beforehand to Orbit... or just lauch everything on one Window and fly all at once.

How should we perform the sample return ? or is landing enough ? I will try it the next days
