If you take my first entry, the F-119C/A and increase the speed it will still work the same way if not slightly better. Especially if you increase the minimum speed. -
Are you saying that your craft is overheating at 35km ASL on Eve why traveling at 4700+m/s? Uh, yeah it should over heat.

You can roll back to the last stable release. I did that after the 1.0.5 patch. I still run 1.0.4 and I run steam. -

You can. I like to attach a docking port jr to the bottom of the cargo bay, and to the bottom of the rover at its COM. Then I drive the rover over it, and dock it. This locks it into place so it does not fly out when doing any time acceleration or crazy maneuvers. The inline docking port is perfect for this job because it does not stick out when it is not deployed. -

In WWII the Bf-109 slats did just that, they were "spring" loaded so as air pressure dropped on the leading edge of the wing they would auto deploy to provide a gap between the wing edge and increase air flow speed over the top of the wing. -

The problem I am seeing is, this craft is lacking real pitch control. While the canards are there they are being asked to do to much. You asking them to control the roll, and the pitch. I would add some control surfaces to the back of the delta wings to only control pitch of the aircraft. As for landing it. That aircraft should have a pretty decent landing speed of around 40-50m/s and if you keep your rate of decent above -10m/s you should be fine on landing. -

Yeah the F/A-18C has some great videos on Youtube where you can see how they work and when they kick in. On my last fighter I submitted I use a simple version of that setup. I have the dynamic pressure to adjust the deflection angles based on the air pressure. If there is low pressure, it will use more deflection on the pitch angles for the leading edge slats. And I really limited those slats control angle input to around 2-3deg at most. I had messed with them before in my RO install back last year. I had a very successful twin engine delta wing design that used slats for landing and take off to keep the speeds low. It could take off at 70m/s and land at 45m/s. You can see the settings in this old picture. -

Are you using 1.0.5 or still using 1.0.4? And what does the craft look like? -
I am just waiting patiently for them to update to 1.0.5, it isnt a big deal to me. I have Fallout4, Mortal Online and my real life to keep me busy, not to mention a pretty good set of missions running in 1.0.4 that I am looking forward to how they end.

I rolled back to 1.04 till all of my mods catch up. But doesnt mean I am any less excited.

They are slats, the F/A-18C uses them, along with the F-16C and even the Bf-109E-G models. -

Here is my SP-360 docked to the Von Braun station, that I modified slightly. Replaced two of the SRBs with procedural tanks to give it more fuel capacity so it acts as a refueling station. -
Today at HARM industries, we did some exploration in our UH-100 chopper.... Then we docked our SSTO SP-360 to the space station in orbit at 100km above Kerbin. After refueling at the station the SP-360 took this lander with tourist to Minmus and landed there. Only to bring everyone home safely back to the KSC on a soft landing on the runway.

My last SSTO tail lander, used aerospikes and 4 of the smaller ant engines for directional control along with RCS. It worked quite well, sent it to Minmus without to much drama. Then returned it back to KSC and landed it just north of the launch pad. May revive that program and see if I can improve on it.

So I finally took pictures of the loadout for my fighter from this challenge.... I kept the same hard point arrangement as I did in the challenge because, like real aircraft you cant swap out where they are on the wings, just because you need more of them. So the fighter still has 6 hard points, 2 on the wing tips, 4 under the wings, and one electronic mounting point centerline. -
So I did this today.... My first unmanned SSTO science craft. That can and will run to my station ferrying science experiments. Oh and it is a VTOL.

This was one of my biggest SSTO cargo craft from the previous version of KSP. It took off at over 300tons with a low TWR on launch. The tricks to getting a monster off of the runway is as wizzlebippi pointed out, proper landing gear placement. I also lock my brakes while the engines spool up to max thrust, then I release the brakes and let it go.... if done correctly it will accelerate to well over 75m/s by 1/4-1/2 of the runway, then over 110m/s by 3/4 mark. -

All I do is SSTO space planes, and if you need a RATO to get off the runway then the craft does not generate enough lift, and thus you are wasting a great deal of energy on take off. Thus would be better off launching vertically. Like this craft, which has more than your .27TWR... but is still low by my standards when loaded. It has a take off TWR of .76 empty and .45 fully loaded. It still manages to take off at 105m/s. If your craft is over 300 tons and you are having such low TWR you have other issues, like it will never accelerate fast enough to maintain level flight let alone climb. -

I had the same problem, but if you look at like the FA-18C or the F-16 for that matter, they have surprisingly limited stores locations. -

I cant stress enough you should check out the thread that Gojira linked. It is invaluable as a learning tool for basic aircraft design. And even I who has thousands of hours in KSP vast majority of them building space planes and aircraft in FAR, a realistic atmosphere mod, still use it as a base for many of my test platforms. -
