  1. any speculation on why Chinese (government) went for early landing? I am SERIOULY impressed how quickly the probe/rover got down.
  2. Possible landing within the next hour... WOOT ! The spacecraft is expected to make touchdown at 9.40pm on Saturday (0040 AEDT on Sunday), state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) said, 12 days after the Chang'e-3 mission blasted off on a Long March-3B carrier rocket. China is aiming to become the third country to carry out a rover mission, following the United States and former Soviet Union, which also made the last soft landing on the moon 37 years ago. "China's lunar probe Chang'e-3 is expected to land on the moon at 21:40 BJT (Beijing Time) on Saturday," CCTV said in a post on Weibo, a Chinese version of Twitter. "The 12-minute autonomous landing will be the key to the success of the task," the post added. The probe is expected to touch down on an ancient 400-kilometre wide plain known in Latin as Sinus Iridum, or The Bay of Rainbows.
  3. If you are going to put unkerbaled probes before capsule launch, are you ALSO going to force players to use unpowered gliders and weighted pulleys ???
  4. Science Geek Gift of the Year 2013 ! O-o will we get a budget in Career mode for version 0.23 ??
  5. Correction: transistors where invented circa 1960, so Apollo missions would have had electronics by then. I wonder if the first Mercury projects where controlled from the ground with differential machines and radio control ?? My father who was an electrician told me about VALVES, I can not even imagine running calculations with those !!! During World War 2, the Germans launched rocket powered "buzz bombs" with pilots inside to Ireland to check out the gyroscopes and clockwork/ mechanical drive. Locked inside with explosive fuel and not even a window. Using a stopwatch, spirit level and compass to navigate ,,,, shivers. Pretty much the same as the options offered in career mode first launches.
  6. OM GOD ! How did you think of that ?
  7. NO! There is still too many social, economic, health and environmental problems to solve first.
  8. Who is doing a full 2 day marathon ? What food. drink & adult diaper supplies have you stacked up on ?? Remember do NOT to operate heavy machinery or drive till you have some decent rest. feed back on point system for highest stack of empty containers...
  9. Reminds me of the scene in "the matrix" where Morphius describes the dead being fed to people in the matrix

    It is generally accepted to say CO2 inert; as CO2 is inactive in most cases, the probability of a reaction is low, redaction is slow and difficult (energy state). Scientific method is never 100% and is open to false data, mis-measurement and high expectations. So I agree people should not use science with "absolute" certainty when making statements. The purpose of (most) peoples post is to gain more information or "thrash out" concepts they may have, so most time, ksp'ers postings are not even fully formed when put 0n-line. Give the majority a break, it is only a GAME !
  11. noun: perilune 1. the point at which a spacecraft in lunar orbit is closest to the moon.
  12. Woot! My comment got put up on China Daily !! Take that ! "Educating the Masses"

  14. BEIJING -- China's lunar probe Chang'e-3 entered an orbit closer to the moon on Tuesday night. Following an order from the Beijing Aerospace Control Center, the probe descended from the 100 km-high lunar circular orbit to an elliptical orbit with its nearest point about 15 km away from the moon's surface, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense said in a statement. The administration said the transition was conducted above the dark side of the moon at 9:20 pm. At 9:24 pm, it was confirmed that Chang'e-3 had entered the new orbit. In the new orbit, the probe will prepare for a soft-landing on the moon's surface, according to the statement. Chang'e-3, which is carrying moon rover "Yutu" (Jade Rabbit), was successfully launched on December 2 from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. http://usa.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2013-12/11/content_17165837.htm {LOL< China Daily said "dark side", it is the FAR side of moon}

    NationStates

    Sorry Zuni, I have to disagree with you as Nation States has noting to offer in the way of gameplay. Voting on issues for a fictional nation, how is that FUN ??
  16. Year 376: Language, sport and religion are simultaneously invented when {said} rocket cart carries Kerbal into the air after travelling up a very steep slope. Earliest records the word "fuego", scholars are still mystified about it's meaning... ((Remember Kerbals speak reversed Spanish))
  17. I wonder how long ago the ice caps on Mars melted ? I suspect that most of Mars atmosphere is still locked up at the poles but don't quote me. Wonder what weird combination of elements makes up Mars ice caps ?? Analyses of three different gases yielded exposure ages in the range of 60 million to 100 million years. This suggests shielding layers above the rock were stripped away relatively recently
  18. From the video, I would say that it is vibration coming from the (electric) drive being transmitted through EVA suits to their helmets {IMO}
  19. The Beijing Aerospace Control Center reports that China's Chang'e-3 lunar probe successfully entered lunar orbit Friday at 5:53 pm Beijing time. The Chang'e-3 probe, carrying with it the Yu Tu (Jade Rabbit) lunar rover, was launched from the Xichang Satellite Center at 1:30 am Monday morning, and was promptly inserted into the desired Earth-Moon transfer orbit, requiring only two minor course corrections on the way. After four days and 16 hours in this transfer orbit, Chang'e-3's internal rocket engine was used to slow the spacecraft, allowing it to enter into a circular lunar orbit some 100 km (63 miles) above the Moon's surface. The probe's variable thrust engine, which can supply from 1,500 to 7,500 Newtons (150 to 765 kg) of thrust, fired for a total of 361 seconds to complete the lunar orbit insertion maneuver. Over the next week, Chang'e-3 will remain in orbit preparing and testing systems for the landing in Sinus Iridum, presently scheduled for December 14. The level of live coverage that will be available for that event is as yet unclear, but we can hope. http://www.gizmag.com/change-3-reaches-lunar-orbit/30049/
  20. When you no longer need the burn time on map view, you just use own heart beat to measure it. <yes, I know it is sad>
