Would like to hear proposals on making this stock. -
We've all been there. You are about to carry out your evil plan and suddenly BOOM! The hero stops you. But not today.... Introducing O.D.I.N! This satellite carries four gigantic laser cannons, capable of everything from annihilating cities to erupting volcanoes! Giant mobile city of death about to eat you and all of your cool gadgets? The O.D.I.N system will briefly wonder where New York and Chicago went, and then drop a giant yellow laser of death on it! Great for parties and making the Earth green again! Inspired by Philip Reeve's book: A Darkling Plain. Control systems not included. Kerbin's Gone Kablooey! What about the astronauts?
Poryy replied to Borkless's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I actually just made that chalenge. -
Yes. You are also allowed to continue your save after this, but only from Extraplanetary launchpads. The only reason you can use Kerbin after the limit is to load the save.

You mean things like the thermometer an the barometer? -
I was typing on a Kindle, Rules are in place now.

Kerbal atronomers have detected a Duna-size asteroid heading for Kerbin! Your goal is to colonize as many other bodies as you can in the 5 year period before the asteroid hits. Colonies must be self sustaining, so the Kethane mod and extraplanetary launchpad mod are recommended. The goal of this challenge is to get as many Kerbals off of kerbin as possible. Your score is the number of kerbals not on Kerbin+the amount of colonies you have. The time is up after 5 years of ingame time. You are allowed to exceed the 5 year limit if all of your spacecraft are out of Kerbin SOI before the event. RULES: Hyperedit and any cheats are banned. Mechjeb is allowed. Infinite fuel, infinite RCS, and infinite EVA fuel is banned. SCORING: Bonuses "It's a fixer upper, but the schools are great" - 25 pts - Manned Stations on planets "Blew up the world and I still gotta go to school" - 10 pt - Have a dedicated science 'building' at you base (Once per base- not for orbitals) "Canned Meat" - 10 pts - Create orbital stations around Kerbin. 10 pts per station. "Gerbils are people too" - 1 pt - Each kerbal in a space station "Want frys with that?" - 5 pts - Dedicated food supply module (from a mod or created from parts) at base (once per base) Credit to Alacrity for creating these. Main Scoring "Colony One" - 5 pts - Create 1 colony. "It takes two to Tango" - 10 pts- Build 2 colonies on different planets. "Three's a charm" - 15 pts- Build 3 colonies on different planets "Terracide" - 45 pts- Build a colony on Gilly. "Saviour"- 2 pts per Kerbal in off-Kerbin. "No man left behind"- 100 pts- Build all of your colonies without a single Kerbal dying. "Des Verviedi"- Build a colony on Laythe.

If I didn't do that, I would be attacked for making a vague topic. -

Tells what materials the planet's atmosphere is made of. All the current thing does is tell pressure. -

Possible improvements to the science point system
Poryy replied to Poryy's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm absolutely incapable of makin it to HKO before the 4th tier. I usually get stuck early-game, before I can get to the Mun. I'm not a pro who can max out the tech tree in 5 flights. -
The science point system is less a full feature than a grind like those found in MMOs. Squad could easily fix it by implementing 1 or 2 small features such as these. 1. Adding value to science found in low Kerbin orbit. This could prevent the tedious experience of flying to every biome before being able to get anywhere else. NASA got massive amounts of data from the first rockets that made it to orbit. The new values should be: Goo- 30 pnts EVA report- 16 pnts Crew report- 12 pnts Science bay- 45 pnts Individual instruments- 15 pnts Spectroscope- 24 pnts Remember, this is a new frontier! 2. Eliminate repeat science This is simple. Only allow specific expermints to be done once. You cannot run a Science bay test on metals twice, but you can do a Science bay test on gels after. 3. Variable Science bays As you prepare your ship for launch, you put a science bay on it. After the bay is placed, you can select a kind of sample for it to carry. You could test metals on Duna, or expose water to Eve's atmosphere! All of the different samples should have different flavor texts, providing endless fun! Different sample types could be unlocked as you progress. For example, at the start the bay could only come with water and gel. List of samples: Water Gel Electronics Rocket fuel Metal Plastic Snacks 4. Spectroscope A new mini science instrument! The spectroscope would be unlocked late-game and analyzes planetary atmospheres and surface composition. It should have a medium-high science return.

This would be hilariously annoying. *On Duna trip* LOL ASTEROIDS FIX IT OR DIE!

Observations on planet K1-1-2: The planet known as "Eve" by the seeded species on K1-1-3 is a deep purple color. It is unknown why this is the case, but everyone can agree it looks pretty. The oceans of Eve are possibly made up a radioactive element known as "Blutonium." The planet has a very thick atmosphere, possibly made up of a mild acid, explaining why solar panels randomely fall off. -Observer Kame'Gar'Veidt

Munhat Kerman. I launched him to Minmus. Close enough.
-
Observations on planet K1-1-1: The planet, being the closest to it's sun, does not seem to harbour any of the effects that close solar proximity has on regular planets. This being said, it is much too hot for Us to seed life, and it will be impossible for it to develop life. The planet has a red-brown coloration, hinting at a large iron quantity, but there is no oxygen for oxidization to take place. Therefore, this must be either a result of volcanic activity or naturally occurring clay "bricks". This could be caused by minuscule amounts of clay being pushed up to the surface, then being baked. Why there could be clay on this extraordinarily barren planet is beyond comprehension. The planet seems to undergo volcanic cycles, each lasting 750 years. The planet in it's dormant state is incredibly boring looking, and I propose that We repurpose it. As discoverer, I will name this planet Moho, and add the memory to the minds of the inhabitants of planet K1-1-3. Repurpose denied. -Observer Ka'ren'shal

Remember to post evidence as well. Things must be able to be observed in the stock game.

This thread is a place where you can post all of your theories about planets, rockets, and pretty much anything in KSP. Well written topics will go in the OP. Example theory: On Kerbal Biology: Kerbals are a humanoid species that dwells on an improbable planet, orbiting an impossible star. Kerbals believe they are alone in the universe, but that is only because other races are afraid to brave the rings of spent SRB's and corpses surrounding the planet. Kerbals has very large heads, and two large bony ridges in their mouths that function as teeth. These "Teeth" give the impression that kerbals are herbivores. Kerbals have green skin, giving the impression of a plant-based life form. This makes sense, as they do not need food or water, nor sleep to survive. Theory Gallery: On Kerbal Spacesuits Perhaps one of the most ingenious inventions of the Kerbal race (outside of the Self-Detonating SRB and Jeb's Coffee) is the technology which they utilize in their spacesuits. These marvels of high science are capable of maintaining any Kerbal wearing one indefinitely, as well as shielding them from falls that would easily kill a Kerbal not in a spacesuit. It was long believed that Kerbals simply do not need to eat or sleep, but recent discoveries have shown that this is not true. It is, however, very true that a Kerbal in a spacesuit does not need to do either, as their spacesuit's functionality halts all biological processes for the Kerbal in question. In fact, the Kerbal spacesuit is revolutionary in that it effectively kills the wearer without actually stealing away their awareness. Because of this rather horrifying feature, Kerbals placed in a spacesuit are not actually animate; not in the usual sense, at least. Rather, their bodies are puppeted about by their suits at the whims of their mission controllers, while the Kerbal in the suit is effectively paralyzed in their state of semi-stasis. The horror at the realization of this tends to drive many Kerbals who are placed into spacesuits insane within seconds of launch. The only known way to alleviate the terror symptoms (besides being a "bad-S", the Kerbal term for one who is immune to fear) is to inject the Kerbal with RCS via their jetpack. This will calm even the most fearful and paranoid Kerbal instantly. Under no circumstances should you ever agree to being put inside a Kerbal spacesuit, not if you're non-Kerbal especially not if you are Kerbal. By SkyRender

The Kermunist Republiks' Space Program. [Picture Heavy]
Poryy replied to Poryy's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Mission 2: Operation: Polar Star. After the Kermunist military caught wind of what had happened on Monday, they wanted their own satellite. This satellite would be equipped with high-resolution cameras to spy on other countries. Because this mission is secret, captions have been censored. General Kremrin: We have liftoff. Polar Star is underway. Mission Control: Beginning circulization burn. General Kremrin: Make it so. Mission Control: Sir! We have orbit! This is a great victory for kerbalkind! Manned flight, coming soon. -
