  1. I've got 2 solutions 1 that I used on duna and a different oen I'm now using on Dres. For duna I have a rover to pickup and move the modules. It would drive to the module and dock, then the module would retrackt it's legs and de rover woudl rive off. De module would stay more or less at the same hight. Although it's weigt might pull it down a bit. To compensate for that I had 2 fuel tanks on the rover around the pivoting point. I would pump fuel from one tank to the other to cancel out the tilt. Then drive to the base and dock the module with the docking port on it's other side. then extend it's legs and undock the rover... it worked most of the time. I'll make a video of that base when I have the time. On Dres.... all my modules are on top of a small rover. Modules are docked while everything is on wheels. Once completed the entire base will extend the legs, de rovers will decouple and I'll wind up with a base and a very large number of small rovers. It works well on Kerbin and the low gravity on Dres makes it even easier.

  3. Ok so this is what I've been doing... I hooked up doing science in 1 action group to 1 button. So pressing "2"does all the readings all my instruments can do. I get presented with windows to click to send all the data. And I basically grind to get science points... (I even do this during launches) Now to me this makes sense... 1 temperature reading is ok... but if I have a 100 readings spread over time I have much more information on how the temperature varies over time. Same for a lot of other readings like presure which I measure multiple times during a launch. But I can also imagine this being usefull for other experiments, the difference between looking at some sample briefly and sending back the results as compared to studying it over time. Or having someone/something in place that can do all kinds of stuff to the sample over time and transmitting the results. Even if my astronaut never returns, him sitting in that shed on Duna examining rocks all day long, the information he sends back is usefull right? (ok maybe his report after 10 years of looking at rocks is less interesting than the reports he send back the first 2 days.) But when I'm just pressing buttons to grind the system to get my science points it becomes silly, For example the EVA report... Get out, do EVA report, get in, transmit, get out, do EVA report, get in, transmit, get out, do EVA report, get in, transmit etc... Even though I'm sure a Kerbal that did his 5th EVAmight still have learned something worth sharing, this grinding for science points is a problem. (As it is pointless, booring and should be offshored.) I think there should be a link between unlimited energy and reports... If you have nlimited energy, your only limiting factor is the time to do the science, (for example the measurements you take during launch, you can only do so many before you are in orbit. Same for science you are doing while buzzing at high speed past an object when you are not in a stable orbit.) so maybe a continues measurements button, where you automatically keep recording and transmitting over a period of time to get all the science points you can get. The points you get from bringing something back home, should be seperated from the data you can transmit. Brining a termometer back from space is pointless, but the value of rocks brought back from a mission is priceless. Thinking about it... "value....priceless" maybe the value of bringing something back should be in cash. You can sell the stuff for money that came back from space. It's no longer about science it's about money.
  4. I'd prefer to go in a high orbit so I have more time to slow down. (Often 1 or 2 nuclear engines) Then I should be falling almost straight down. By slowing my decent any left over side movement will also decrease especially when I use the nav ball to check on any movement in undesired directions and cancel them out. I frequently press the 'm' key to see my predicted landing point and too look at the scenery Until I get close to the ground where I will be checking for shadows or my light beams to estimate distance to the ground for my final part in tha landing.
  5. For hard mode: - Do not allow the removal of debris from the command centre. - Do not allow revert to launch or VAB - Auto save and no save/reload (so if you screw up, there is no undo.)
  6. On the subject of the ISS not being populair like for instance the apollo program... I took my kids to visit the Kennedy Space Centre last year. We visited the VAB and the Atlantis shuttle that was parked there, the launche sites etc. They seemed to not care that much except for some odd little facts that I mannaged to throw in..... untill they got to see the 3d movie about the ISS. to them that was a big deal. Why, because this relates to what they have seen on the news. The dutch astrounaut that has visited the ISS twice who they know from the news was also in the movie. So maybe, it's age that determines for a large part populairity. As for the Chinese space station, there might be propaganda and national pride involved but that is true for all other space projects. The possible things we learn from building such a structure and the science that takes place there could result in innovation for products we use in everyday life. In the end that results in profits for companies/countries producing these products.
  7. I took this picture last sunday: When all hell breaks loose, don't go to the stores, that is where everybody without a plan will be fighting for scraps. you're better off facing the zombies. If you planned poorly, visit the local fast food restaurants, they have supplies that the angry mob hasn't thought about yet. In my case there is no real place to run too, so I'll just fortify and wait for a month. With whomever is left we'll cordon of some area where we can grow our own food etc. Whomever tries to attack us will become a resource. (food, fertilizer, bait, axel grease etc.)
  8. I cycle them. So for example I send 3 kerbals to a space station I then send 2 other kerbals to the space station, let them switch places and take the orginal kerbals back home while leaving the other 2. So this proves I can move people in and out, but I do have a permanently manned base/station etc. Preferbly I leave a getaway rocket for them behind so I could evacuate them quickly. For Kerbels on their way back an forth during travels, those are not space stations so I do try to rescue them. So far I have been able to save them all.
  9. Maybe it's better to look at how to change our own trajactory and do some climate modding at the same time. (Just rying to not follow the obvious path.)
  10. Ok not all wars are resources based (although I don't agree with all your examples). Some are ideology based. I'm sure we can find ideological differences with an alien life form. But that only makes things worse... not only will we colonize if it's worth the effort, we might even do it just because we can or to fight the locals.
  11. Is there a requirement in the tech tree that you have to develop certain moral values before you can unlock the space program? Who started with rockets that went really high? What beeps from space caused the Americans to suddenly started working very hard on their space program? Was that really to explore or to keep up with the enemy? Why are countries as North Korea so interested in a space program?
  12. Because we need to get at the resources and they are in the way. Even if we don't create the incidents, with different cultures there will be issues. With the right kind of spinning the issues, things will escalate untill there is war. Humans have always done that and are still doing that.
  13. In our past, whenever we discovered an island or continent, if it was worth the effort we'd colonized it. In our present we still do, although we don't find that many places worth while anymore. Whenever we do we go for it. Pick any spot on the planet you like and image there is gold or oil in the ground. There will be plans on how to get it out the same day. You might debate it all you want on a forum for a computer game. But if there is a planet of which it is worthwhile to colonize, we will. The question worthwhile will take into account a hostile environment including wild life, diseases or armed natives. Sure there might be people that don't like it. But there will be countries and coorporations that will do it. Personllay, if there are sentient beings, I'd prefer to setup trade and create a win win situation. But in reality it will start out like that en then there will be incidents and then there will be a war. A war we supposedly didn't want, but they forced it on us.
  14. I prefer to come in from a stable high orbit, reduce forward speed to 0 so my trajectory is almost straight down. I can come in pretty close, but that is with the risk of any parts jettisoned during descent to crash into whatever I put already down there. I haven't "succesfully" accidentially bombed my own base yet though.)
  15. I run into that too. My list of things to check and try: - Check allignment from different angles - Is SAS off? On both objects? - Go into docking mode - Right click the docking port and set as target - Select the docking port on the object I'm controlling and select control from here - Bumb into the object a few times - Curse loudly - Bumb into the object a lot harder a few times and then I'm docked.
  16. I've been suffering similar effects lately due to a rocket design that was just to unstable and kept shaking things apart. F3 would show the link between fuel tanks being broken during launch/flight. Right clicking on the specific fuel tank wouldn't work any more as it was still on the rocket but not connected anymore.
  17. Hey there, Recently bought and installed... Build a space station... (Added a few extra fuel tanks in the meantime and removed surplus rocket engine parts. Went to Mun (and did the other thing) Build a moon base Very jumpy moonbase though... tends to leap 50 feet into the air and do a partial salto and crash into the ground once in while. I'm thinking of what my next project will be...
