[WIP] Nert's Dev Thread - Current: various updates
Pulsar replied to Nertea's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Oh dear. The 2.5m inflatable habs are amazing. It can house higher amount of sleeping bags than I expected! The compact 1.25m centrifuge, however, can't house much. Only 2 hammocks. I have adjusted the USI-LS patch according to the new IVA as well. Both habs are buffed. The compact centrifuge is nerfed accordingly. Patch file if you want to give it a test. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0rdtnqcn2hlh2ok/SSPXR-USILS.cfg?dl=0 About IVA, I'm not sure if the Eclair (large 1.25m inflatable hab) need more beds though. I think it could house 4 sleeping bags. But maybe it gonna be too crowded. -

@Fraz86 Thanks for info. I'm looking forward to see more of balance suggestions. I will take care of patch files later, unless @JadeOfMaar already fix it first. -

@Domfluff It's probably more fit in MKS patch actually. Since all of the deployable modules come from MKS. USI life support itself doesn't have any. I should ask @JadeOfMaar who currently maintain MKS patch first though. -

I have adjusted deflated mass and material kit requirement. It will be 40% deflated mass, and 60% will be the mass of material kit. Right now, the Engineer requirement will be 1. But as @Domfluff said for USI, all Kerbal class should be able to inflate the module for more flexibility. (One pilot only mission anyone?) -

Few more updates for USI-LS patch. - Star utility module is now a recycler, 50% efficiency for 2 crews, 0.5 EC/s. - Cut down Eclair extra month to be consistency. It only has 3 beds for 6 crews. - Adjust aquaculture module. It now has 81% efficiency for 6 crews. Uses 54.375 EC/s. Unlikely that you need it until you have more than 12 crews. - Adjust EC usage for Recyclers. - Increase Asylum Multiplier, It's now based on fully loaded mass with monopropellant for better balance. (10.5875 tons) It now has the multiplier value of 2.6. -

True. In this case, even hammocks or sleeping bags counts. -

@Domfluff Yeah, any type of crew for deployment would be a lot more convenience. And I just saw that it display resources needed, whoops. Reimbursed resources would be more complicated to code. Still weird to chuck your furniture out though, unless you don't have space to keep them. ...And just notice that Eclair inflatable hab (long, 1.25m) have only 3 sleeping bags. Welp. time to cut hab extra time in half for consistency. I still don't know about furniture inside Winston inflatable hab (short, 1.25m) Probably no bed. -

I have set up resources requirement. It's working fine. Should be on GitHub now. I have a few suggestion though. - Right now you can deploy the module without a crew. it should need a crew (preferably engineer) on the vessel to "carry" resources to deploy it. - In VAB, it should tell the player which resources and how much of them needed to deploy the module. - Should the deployable module unable to retract back later? If it can retract, it should spit out the resources back to the vessel. -

Did the mass of predeployed habs will be lighter though? The way USI balance this is undeployed hab will be lighter than deployed one, then you put material kits for some amount of mass to deploy it. Making it as heavy as original mass. Eg: A deployed hab weight 9 metric ton when deployed. When undeployed it's 1 metric tons. So you put 8 tons of material kits to deploy it. -

I update the USI patch, a bit more refinement. It's on GitHub now. - Slightly decrease Multiplier on inflatables. - Increase Multiplier on centrifuges to be based solely on mass. Extensible (somewhat rigid) one get more multiplier bonus. - Decrease extra time on Pilgrim centrifuge to compensate low bedroom but high common space. The Pilgrim should give more habitation time than PFD-C centrifuge now. The Mercury centrifuge stats are really powerful, 360 extra months and 3.9 multipliers. For now, it will be compensated by sheer size and high EC use (about 50 per sec). -

@Nertea It's probably not. Maybe the way I tried to balance things. In the end, I might just want to revert the habs to old volume based, no cut down extra time, no hab multiplier one. -

OK. The first pass of Habs and Centrifuges rebalance is up on Github. I decided to go middle path for stats. Centrifuges, expandables, and habs with common spaces have both extra time and multipliers. But I cut down on extra times based on how many Kerbals actually got the bed to sleep. Eg: Shanty can hold 6 Kerbals, but only got 4 beds. So extra times are cut to 2/3 of original volume based extra times. The problem that I found so far with this balance is the pilgrim centrifuge. (3.75m three arms one) If I'm correct, It can hold only 6 beds for Kerbals while carrying 10 crews on board, which will result in lesser extra time than PDF-C. (2.5m core centrifuge) Despite the larger centrifuge has more volume than the smaller one. Due to the smaller one can hold 8 Kerbals and 8 beds for them, the original hab time won't get cut down as much. Right now I increase the bed capacity to 9 Kerbals. So it will have more extra time. Another side is multipliers. I decided to base this one on mass to be consistent. Some module that doesn't have common space won't have multiplier bonus. Centrifuges also got multiplier which depends on g-forces and mass of centrifuges, which will be averaged on the mass-based multiplier to prevent too excessive multiplier. I prefer this option. Sort of. Hammocks inside may provide minor bonus month boost. But probably not significant to account. I'm thinking of a more solid way to calculate extra time and multiplier based on stuff inside the module, amount of beds, bed condition, occupant per room, etc... A lot of math. Still based from volume though. Gonna be a long night. -

@Domfluff I would prefer to balance them based on volume. There is a problem with Shanty (2.5m large hab) vs Shelter (3.75m small hab) due to both having the same crew capacity but Shelter is lighter than Shanty despite having slightly more volume. It will have less hab time if I balance it based on mass. Also, based on my rough volume estimation. The volumes of centrifuges are already large enough for a high extra time. Maybe with some multiplier will help. Spreadsheet calculating extra time relative to the volume of the hitchhiker. (WIP) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R5QlSMEGIPzXR7dZev0v7P0M07dBNe-AMspuUbLODNg/edit?usp=sharing I already upgrade the greenhouses. 2.5m one can support 6 crews. 3.75m one can support 10 crews. These are balanced by mass. The 2.5m greenhouse planting spaces are quite big compared to USI greenhouse. I think it can produce 3 times more. Plus it uses superior Kale anyway. -

Good point. It should be a lot shorter. It have extra month modifer longer than MOLE habitation module (that one only have 6 months) despite being less comfortable. I will fix it later. Please keep reporting concerning stats. I maintain those configs. -

@Nertea Great job! Now they look a lot better. I have updated my USI LS patch as well. I'm still waiting for feedback. Get it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0rdtnqcn2hlh2ok/SSPXR-USILS.cfg?dl=0 Changelog: -Increase supplies production from greenhouse to make up for being heavier than USI inline greenhouse. -The part name is updated. Features: All station cores have 25% recycling efficiency for all crew in a module. The 3.75 m lab has 50% recycling efficiency for 6 crew. The aquaculture module has 81% recycling efficiency for 4 crews, drain 35 EC/s. Those fishies and seaweeds can help with crew life support too. The 2.5 m greenhouse can support 3 crews on its own. The 3.75 m greenhouse can support 4 crews on its own. Rigid habitation module has the least EC consumption. Inflatable habs consume more EC but provide about the same hab time for lesser mass. Centrifuges consume the most EC but provide massive habitation time. The largest centrifuge provides up to about 450 months of extra time. -

The current version of SSPX that is on spacedock right now. That will become a legacy pack. It will be replaced by the one under development, one that Nertea keep teasing us with those awesome models such as the centrifuges. -
