KIDI- Kerbal Interplanetary Defence Initiative
Khobai replied to sodopro's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
not really. it easily fits inside the hanger bay of most of my ships snuggly. and a small warhead can never do as much damage as a large warhead if both are going the same speed. If you want to ensure that you absolutely obliterate the target then a large warhead is the way to go. -

lol how are you gonna steer with a 250 missile on your ship. -

5 tons... how quaint. standard ordnance for my newer ships is this compact 25 ton bad boy lol. -

exactly... it increases part count, it increases weight, it decreases DV and maneuverability, and for what? so you can bounce some oscar-B missiles? any serious torpedo is still going to blow your ship to pieces. armoring is really not worth it... although I have to say ive seen some pretty good looking tubes of metal plates filled with srbs. not all of them are ugly. -

Armor is pretty pointless though IMO. You can easily design a 20 ton torpedo that can destroy even the most heavily armored ship in one hit. Weapon technology in KSP is way ahead of armor technology. Honestly the only reason to use plating is because it looks cool. The truth is even a ship made entirely out of wing parts that carries a 20 ton torpedo is a huge threat to everything -
Laythe Colony Ship: The Community project!
Khobai replied to DMSP's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
will the cargo pods just open in orbit and deploy payloads? or does each cargo section/module detach from the ship and land on the surface? the first way is easier but will have a much higher part count since each piece of equipment/vehicle will need its own skycrane/parachutes. the second way is more of an engineering challenge but I imagine would use significantly less parts. -
I still think its important to learn the fundamentals of the game. And you really should try to do things without mechjeb when you can. Because mechjeb does things inefficiently a lot of the time. Where mechjab is invaluable is when you have to do multiple launches which would be tedious if you had to do them all manually.

Sure they do. Hydrogen can and is used as a rocket fuel. And hydrogen is the most abundant element there is. The main problem with hydrogen as a fuel (aside from the fact youd have to be insane to use hydrogen as a fuel in the first place- see Hindenburg) is that liquid hydrogen evaporates away pretty quickly so it cant be stored long term. It wouldnt be much good for trips that take months or years.
-
Not really. If ore is heavier than liquid fuel then you'd lose more deltaV transporting ore as opposed to converting it to fuel on the surface then transporting it.
-
good riddance to easy mode SSTOs thats one thing this patch got right
-
Again that kills the whole concept of orbital refineries... unless ore is lighter than fuel then lifting ore off the surface is a pointless endeavor. I still believe the problem is the ISRU weighing only 4 tons. 4 tons is just not a reasonable weight. The ISRU has to process ore, capture expelled water and CO2, convert the water to hydrogen and the CO2 to oxygen, convert the *highly flammable* hydrogen to a more stable cryogenic liquid fuel, all while avoiding the catastrophe of a hydrogen explosion, and withstanding the rigors of space travel. There's no way something that does all that is going to only weigh 4 tons. 10-15 tons is far more reasonable even with the consideration that kerbal technology is far more advanced than our own. Even from a game balance perspective, ignoring any notions of realism, 4 tons just isnt balanced. It makes mining ore way too easy mode since all but the tiniest landers can carry an ISRU and reap huge benefits for almost no cost.
-
Why shouldnt ore tanks be lighter though? Ore isnt volatile like fuel and doesnt need cryogenic systems to keep it stable. Its much easier to store ore than it is to store fuel. An inflatable storage container would work fine and weigh almost nothing. I agree that Ore needs a nerf. But I dont agree with people that want to take the fun out of having to transport ore to orbital refineries. I personally think the ISRU is what needs a nerf. 4 tons is way too light and makes it way too easy to put on a lander. Also you shouldnt be able to fill up your ore tanks at KSP. Because sending down a lander with a drill, ISRU, single ore tank, and huge fuel tank is BORING. Theres NO challenge in that. But if refining has to be done in orbit then you have to send a lander down with multiple ore tanks and transport it back to the refinery. Thats more challenging and rewarding IMO.

regular jet engines are way too weak turbojets are still way too good
-
they need to add procedural wings
-
Because carting around ore should be an option. If you make ore worse than fuel than carting around ore is pointless. I think if you go through the trouble of mining ore on other planets it should have some benefit over regular fuel. The main problem that I see is you can launch ships with full ore tanks from VAB/SPH. So youre getting the reward of mining without doing the work.
-
I noticed this too. Ore is significantly lighter than Fuel. And converting ore to fuel only requires a 4 ton piece of equipment. An easy fix would be simply to not allow people to fill their tanks with ore in the VAB/SPH. The only way to get ore should be from mining.

Tropis mk20 - Performance simplified
Khobai replied to Spartwo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Its great for a utility rover. Love all the attachments. But it failed my stunt driving. Whenever I tried to do a hard turn at maximum speed the front wheel ripped off. I moved the front wheels to a different attachment point and added 2 more wheels. That made it much more rugged for stunts. -

lol that things more supertanker than carrier -
Its definitely something Id like to experiment with. Are there any good videos/tutorials on making a bipedal walker with IR?

New MK5 Exosuit. Stock parts only. First Exosuit in the series thats SSTO capable. Lots of hardpoints for weapons. Also has a sombrero. Exosuit MK5.craft Control Groups 1= Turbojet Engines 2= Nuke Engine 3= Ion Engines (use in space only) 4= RCS Engines 5= Fire Rocket Claw 6= Fire Rocket Claw 7= Ladder 8= Solar Panels (use in space only) 9= Fire Sombrero (eject this when its out of fuel) 10= Deploy Parachutes Make sure you turn on SAS! Sombrero supplies the extra fuel required to make orbit. Can be ejected when it runs out of fuel or to increase performance if youre just flying around KSP. Also its very difficult to land so I recommend using the parachutes. Evolution of design: MK1 Exosuit (capable of space flight only, single ion engine and RCS) MK2 Exosuit (capable of space flight only, dual ion engines and RCS) MK3 Exosuit (first atmospheric flight capable Exosuit, jet engine, dual ion engines, and RCS) MK4 Exosuit (not pictured, but was basically just the MK3 with a detachable jetpack for SSTO) MK5 Exosuit (pictured above, SSTO capable, x2 turbojets, x1 nuke engine, dual ion engines, dual RCS engines, and RCS thrusters.)

that duck is awesome, I didnt put nearly as much time or effort into mine lol
-
.craft file link was broken but it should work again now it doesnt fly straight at all and and I barely got it into orbit lol
-
Happy Thanksgiving!!! Dont even ask me how I got this thing in orbit. Its a total mystery. Space Turkey.craft
