  1. A few technologically advanced U-Boats does nothing to change the fact that the the allies can replace their losses. The British/US will catch up to the type XXI when it comes to technology given some time. Even more, the type XXI had quality issues in its construction. Only four were fit for combat before the end of the war in Europe. The German nuclear program was a mess.
  2. Germany could not have won. I doubt that the Russians would abide by the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact forever. Operation Sealion was impractical. Did they have air superiority? No. Did they have the equipment? No. Logistics? No. Naval supremacy? No. It was never going to happen.
  3. And geology. Not the best place to build reactors. Not at all, considering its history of large earthquakes. And its tectonic setting.http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/world/historical_country.php#japan
  4. We have enough data. Most geothermal plants are located on hot rock, not fault lines. A good example? The geysers.
  5. Geothermal produces small earthquakes that have no effect on power production.
  6. The moon does not help us prepare for mars. Mars does not have similar surface conditions. A moon mission will not help with technology needed to go to mars due to this. I would support a robotic moon base, but not a human one.
  7. The report does not discuss other ways of getting to Mars which might be cheaper. On-orbit assembly using smaller launchers might be able to do a mars mission cheaper.
  8. VG is behind by multiple years. 7 years, to be exact. They should have been flying before.
  9. Human Spaceflight has not gone very far compared to robotic exploration since Apollo. We still know nothing about partial gravity and we do not have closed life support. And we have no way to get out of LEO. LEO is not exploring. It gives us an environment to test technology, but that is it.
  10. Yellowstone will not erupt soon. Small earthquakes. Fracking happens at 1,500-5,000 feet depth. Aquifers are only a few hundred feet at most under the surface. However, fracking fluid does contain toxins. That is a problem for workers and the nearby area.
  11. It is common sense. ClF3 is volatile(that is an understatement) and horrible to work with.
  12. It is possible. But the planet the moon is orbiting around might mess with the orbit of the sub-moon.
  13. What can I say. SpaceX PR is better then Boeing PR.
  14. Small rock with minimal gravitational pull. Nothing will change.
  15. Exactly. It is going to be used for LEO-GEO. Not a good comparison to the SLS.
  16. The SLS has no payloads for interplanetary missions. It is on budget and schedule, but for how long...
  17. I live in Vegas. A few more degrees of heat will make this place even more uninhabitable in the summer. I can see the signs: "Welcome to Las Vegas. You can fry eggs on the pavement." On a serious note, genocide is not a solution to dealing with sustainability and overpopulation. We need birth control in undeveloped countries. That will slow population growth. Better education will slow it even more. For energy sources, we have to start a transition to renewables. I think nuclear is a good energy source. We should not rely on a single source of energy.
  18. I have a feeling that Atezaca fought a war with Ichelica and won. The Cerimian countries look like an empire that broke up like the holy roman empire(dissolution into states, but reunited after).
  19. The "proving ground" reason for manned lunar exploration and colonization does not really hold merit. Radiation can be researched out of earths magnetosphere and Gravity can be researched in LEO. Life support can be tested in LEO. The government is focused on mars and the political reality of today is not conducive to a moon return. Commercial companies, however, with explore the moon. Bigelow is thinking about it. If I am correct, Elon said that it could be used to test technology in an (NBC?) interview. Still, not the most cost effective proving ground. There is still science to be done.
  20. The politicians will be shocked into acting if China does so. But the chances of that happening is small. While China did spark some space policy debate after Yutu, I think it is not going to beat us yet. China is making steady progress in space, of course. That is better than us.
  21. The new engines make it much easier to lift payloads. I especially love the new ion engines.
