I too was 'captured' by Scott Manley's Interstellar Quest and I can vouch that certainly in the beginning stages of career mode the game is strangely more difficult then later on when one is able to get to orbit. Suborbital flight seems the most prone to going south since you're landing angle is mostly too steep for comfort, lost two Kerbals in the process that way, something that never happened to me before. As others said before I just use the default settings for Far and Deadly Reentry. The only thing to really watch out for is keeping the periapsis between 30 and 32 km height to have a shallow long stretched entry through the upper atmosphere to lose enough speed. As for parts sticking out outside the heat shield like goo containers for instance, I didn't have any problems with those as long as I observed the reentry heights given above and making sure my velocity stayed under approx 2850 m/s when hitting the thicker air layers at 30 to 32 km height. You come out of warp drive and find yourself in the KSP solar system
Jananton replied to nobbers12345's topic in Forum Games!
I'd stay off the recreational beverages for a few days, since all I can see on my scopes are little green men that seem to blow up a lot at random. lol Greets, Jan -
Hmm, playing a bagpipe, een doedelzak as it's called in Dutch, eh, no, sorry. ;-) Greets, Jan

Before forking out money for Photoshop you should have a look at Gimp, in principle that can do everything Photoshop does for free. ;-) Since you mention logo design in your first post you should maybe look into vector drawing software too. The expensive choice here is obvious Corel Draw, but there's a very capable free solution as well called Inkscape, that you should try first. (www.inkscape.org) Greets, Jan

Ah yes, Alpha Centauri was a favorite of me too. One of the last computer games that came in a relatively big cardboard box and included a printed manual the size of a quite fat pocket book with very detailed background information. That's the kind of detail I especially liked in games those days and still do. ;-) Greets, Jan

What, no download link. LOL Greets, Jan

Really save a savegame
Jananton replied to Tokay Gris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Hmm, maybe you all should have a look at this thread here. Maybe not a complete savegame, but certainly a nice additional hidden feature since v. 0.23.5 Greets, Jan -
Yup that's new and a nice find and addition, I forgot to mention that, but I replied to NeoMorph and his discovery of the recover vessel button behind the altimeter on top of the screen after successful touchdown on Kerbin. :-) I obviously should have quoted his original text to make that clear... Greets, Jan

Hmm, afaik that is there since the career mode was introduced. In v. 0.23 to be exact. ;-) Greets, Jan

Hmm, I seem to have two of those in my new started 023.5 career game, obviously I'm nowhere near catching any of those. ;-) Greets, Jan

A Comparison of KSP Rocketry to Other Video Games
Jananton replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hmm, long ago in a distant past there was Elite of course. I had it in cassette version for my Acorn BBC-b in 1984. Then there was Privateer, from Origin I believe, who also made the Wing Commander series in the Dos days. From the windows period I remember 'Independence War II, Edge of chaos', a game with real Newtonian physics for the flight model but no things like orbiting and that kind of realism. And finally, also windows, 'The X Universe, X3 Reunion'. This is a game you need to play for months on end to get anywhere, so it won't be to every bodies taste, but the rewards are great if you persevere. All of these by the way resemble the Elite type of game play although their universes weren't nearly as vast as they were in their great grandfather. ;-) Greetings from nighttime Amsterdam, Jan -
[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)
Jananton replied to cybutek's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Being quite new at space exploration I can say this plugin is actually the only one I always use. In the VAB of course, but additional I found out recently that the in flight version is really helpful too to know the right height of the planet surface, essential for landing on distant targets. Because of this I have a small request. Would it be possible to make the in flight version(s) display be toggled by the custom action groups? That would be much easier then right clicking on the recorder in the darkness of space. ;-) Greets and seasonal best wishes, Jan -
I was going to mention that too, but there's one snag here as well. This option seem to count all fuel between horizontal couplers only. So if one has a stage with a central fuel tank and engine and 'helper' tanks and engines attached with vertical couplers to this main one you still can't see when their fuel runs out and when to drop those 'helpers'. Greets and seasonal best wishes, Jan

If the spring plate of the wheel isn't the right way up the wheels tend to sink into the ground, I noticed that too. I can't remember seeing this effect in v. 0.21, so I'm unsure if this could be considered a bug in v.0.22, or that it has to do with the added spring damping effect. Greets, Jan

EVA mishap! Whiskey Tango...You get the idea.
Jananton replied to jchad's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Another thing to note, always hover your finger over the F key before doing an EVA. From time to time the kerbonaut fails to grab the capsule automatically when coming out the hatch with all problems you can imagine if you don't press it quick enough. Greets, Jan -
Question about periapsis in atmosphere
Jananton replied to ZachTM's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Right, that explains why I have some pieces of debris circling where I thought of they would come down eventually, but somehow never do. ;-) Thanks for clearing that mystery up. Greets, Jan -
How to make your own missions for Mission Controller Plugin
Jananton replied to JayCheetah's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Never mind, found the API - sort of -, a link for completeness added here. Greets, Jan -
How to make your own missions for Mission Controller Plugin
Jananton replied to JayCheetah's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Interesting, is there an API for the used language to be found somewhere? Btw, did you forget the closing curly brace for the MissionPackage entry codeblock or isn't that needed. ;-) Greets, Jan -
Tech tree problem
Jananton replied to WinstonSmith2084's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In the settings of the game you should set the screen resolution to the same values as your windows settings for the monitor, then you get the whole picture. ;-) Greets, Jan -
Efficiency - Mun Descent
Jananton replied to Osprey's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Because in career mode one doesn't have all the parts available to start with, I'm quite fond of this contraption, if I may say so. The initial retro burn is done with the stage that brings the lander to Mun or Minimus so it crashes into the planet and the final descent is done with the lander with enough juce to spare to get back to Kerbin with all the science data gathered. Ten Commandments for KSP beginners
Jananton replied to EasyPlayer's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
When you start building be aware of the orange list at the right of your screen. Everything in one slot will be fired at once when you press the spacebar. Certainly when you start in career mode your first 'rocket' - capsule plus tank plus parachute - will have all in one slot. Press the plus button at the bottom of the list and drag the engine into the new slot that you've created, so your parachute isn't deployed when you launch that contraption. Greets, Jan -
How I got borderless windowed mode working on my setup.
Jananton replied to anarchistdalek's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Am I correct in assuming this commandline option is what is added if KSP is started from the Launcher with the option borderless window checked? Greets, Jan -
Question about crew filling
Jananton replied to elxverde's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In the VAB or SPH you can go to the most right blue button at the left top of the screen to 'assign' the Kerbonauts you want. They should be on the available crew list of course, otherwise you can only select the three Kerbateers. ;-) When you launch after doing this the selected Kerbals will be at the helm. Greets, Jan
