Well, it's not supposed to be an accurate representation of warfare, so that point is moot. I agree that the rules are somewhat random, though. Still, they apparently work. On topic: the game IMHO deserves its praise...kinda. Pretty much all reviews on the net are vastly positive, but what it does need is more coverage. A lot of gaming media won't review stuff that isn't at least in beta, so most people (that don't use Steam) never hear about it. KSP may have quite a lot of flaws right now, but it's also amazing in a lot of aspects that overshadow the said flaws. For one... it has been said before, but there isn't really much to do on planets right now. I believe Squad has it right with wanting to add more reasons to go places before adding more... places. You have to roleplay quite a bit if you want to keep it exciting and/or challenging. Just my 2 cents. Edit: Replayability is indeed huge if you impose your own rules, participate in Challenges etc. But otherwise, everything can be done in one save. Also...even with devil's advocation, the opinions are a liiiittle bit biased on this forum

This is pretty accurate: Replace Buran with hopes and dreams and it applies to the rest of my life as well!

I'm designing a (stock) long-term Duna mission. 30-ton asymmetrical rover skycrane: done. 50-ton non-nuclear transfer stage: done. 20-ton ascent vehicle with full fairing & heatshield: done. Now I just need some inspiration for the base At least 12 launches will be necessary. This is going to take a while... see you around April, people!

Does anyone have any heavy tuggers?
Ravenchant replied to BananaCat's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Unless you have some parts clipped, this shouldn't weigh that much... about 35 - 40 tons actually, from the looks of it. -
Awesome job on all of those! Usually replicas have poor flight properties, but you seem to have solved that...any plans on posting .craft files? Also, maybe the Normandy will stop flexing like a wet noodle come 0.24 with its rigid joints

Wouldn't it be possible to alter the characteristics and names of existing planets into real-world ones (in the style of Alternis Kerbol), then add additional ones and put KSC on Earth?

Does anyone have any heavy tuggers?
Ravenchant replied to BananaCat's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hmm, just how heavy is heavy? You can't go wrong with Wayfare's Munshine family. I have some of mine here, but they aren't made for big payloads - 40 tons, tops. Also, what you're looking for is usually called a lifter/launcher around here. Generally, tugs are craft that move stuff from one orbit to another. -
Watched it, really liked the first 2/3 or so, but the ending could better. The last half hour seems to have degraded into a (uh, spoilers?) space horror flick. Still one of the better recent sci-fi movies IMHO

They are useful (if you are patient), mostly for probes weighing only a ton or two. Burns can take more than an hour without time acceleration, yes, but the upside is insane delta-v. Even a tiny probe can get anywhere in the system using them - except perhaps Moho.

BSC: Rocket-powered VTOL - We have a winner!
Ravenchant replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Giggleplex, MiniMatt, Tarmenius - congratulations! It was a deserved victory The Kerbal 2 seems like a stand-in for Little Joe, though. In which case RCS is nonsense, agreed. -
The only thing thing that I care to see in .24
Ravenchant replied to Wesmark's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Two of those parts would probably be the Sr. docking ports and the largest RCS tank. Seriously, the things shear off like they were held with duct tape. -
Paraterraforming
Ravenchant replied to szputnyik's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Seconded! I'd propose an additional caveat: advanced electronics and the like almost certainly couldn't be manufactured offworld in a small colony, so stuff like probe cores, capsules, science parts and SAS modules, maybe some of the more advanced engines as well, would need to be shipped from Kerbin for integration into the craft. -
What was the best mission you've undertaken?
Ravenchant replied to DunaRocketeer's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Best in terms of gathered experience: rescuing a stranded crew in orbit around the Mun, then botching the follow-up mission as well and having to rescue that one too. Best in terms of the holy-crap-it-worked factor: when the first two missions to Moho succeeded. Only time I didn't care about leaving debris in orbit. Most fun: everything involving SSTOs and motherships -
What is your college major? or what will it be when you go?
Ravenchant replied to nhnifong's topic in The Lounge
I'm a physics undergraduate. Seeing that I hope to get into either aerospace or bionics/genetic engineering later on, I should probably tick the first option, but oh well... On a related note, are "majors" simply titles of whatever you go to study at college? Always been a bit confused by the concept. -
As far as part mods go, I stick to the stock-alike ones for consistency. Meaning RLA, Porkjet's habitat pack and similar. Plugins, on the other hand...couldn't play without KAC, Crew Manifest, SelectRoot and Engineer (VAB info only). Chatterer is nice as well =) Come next save, Deadly reentry, FAR, RemoteTech and Kethane will probably find their way to my hard drive, though.

"Intermediate Caravan" Interplanetary Craft
Ravenchant replied to Sauron's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
While it does look absolutely awesome, I wonder how long the burns are... -
BSC: Rocket-powered VTOL - We have a winner!

It will be tense this time around - best of luck to everybody! Edit: 300th post already? This is madness! -
BSC: Rocket-powered VTOL - We have a winner!
Ravenchant replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
True. Besides, they force you to plan a bit ahead, which is useful when landing on places with no atmosphere- nothing like starting the burn a few seconds too late and plowing into the ground as a result. -
BSC: Rocket-powered VTOL - We have a winner!
Ravenchant replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I've had the time to test the whole list now, and have to say- wow! Pretty much all of them are great Some more than others, of course...here goes: Andrew Hansen - Wernhermobile I liked the additional usability as a rover. In rocket and mixed modes, it had good handling, but seemed a bit underpowered in pure jet mode. briansun1 - VV-1V This one had...interesting aesthetics. And hell of a long run time, of course, though throttle control was a bit tricky. Also, wing parts. DisarmingBaton5 - Ostrich VTOL Low part count, good handling characteristics, and the best looking shadow ever! Unfortunately, it gets minus points for having some dead-weight oxidiser on it, no escape system and maybe too much power. Still, a joy to fly. Giggleplex777 - Damselfly It's maneuverable, looks nice and has decent flight time (albeit not in rocket mode). Don't really have much more to say, but it's one of the best IMHO:) Kasuha - Morpheus Well, doesn't this one have an...interesting setup. (That's a bonus point, btw) Also, it's usable as a rover, but it doesn't take obstacles that well. TWR at liftoff seems a bit low as well. Majorjim - LLTV Without doubt the best looking entry. It looks like a training craft, and it handles well- like one would expect it to. A bit high on part count though. mhoram - The Kerbol Flying Object I really wanted to like this one. I mean...flying saucers! Who doesn't dig them? But it ended up being the only entry I just couldn't land on the helipad...short flight time, slow control response. It's almost indestructible, though! MiniMatt - Snack Wagon VTOL Very nice! It's easy to control, and while it has a rather small ground clearance and moderate flight time, this is one of those entries that really look like a training VTOL. PDCWolf - Rocket Powered VTOL 2 Erm...it does fly longer than the original, true. But pitch and yaw are slow to respond, and that makes it harder to control than the Mk. 1. Not exaclty a beginners craft. Psycix - VTOL Training Or Learning More of a lander, really. But it handles well! Though an abort system would be nice. Rhomphaia - H.A.L.O. On second thought, it's not underpowered at all, it just seemed that way on my potato of a laptop (lag). Nice look! Again, oxidiser is useless. SaplingPick - LeapFrog LV-I *I like turtles* Seriously. It's also very maneuverable. Now only if it had a longer flight time... Spartwo - Tern MK3 This one is just a joy to fly. Unfortunately... clipping causes it to explode on the slightest touch with the ground. Not exactly newbie-friendly. But it will stay in my save! sploden - VTOLPV7.1 Rocket Chair Hey, nice escape system! The handling and flight time were also good. A bit on the lander-ish side, though. Tarmenius - Bullfrog A very good beginners' VTOL. There isn't much to add, really. It's also nice to see those engines put to good use ThePsuedoMonkey - Omega 16 Well, it's not bad. But yaw response is really slow compared to other crafts. UpsilonAerospace - Pavo VTOL Generally good handling? Check. Foolproof abort system? Check. Weird engine placement? ...also check. Xeldrak - CRPLTV Another lander-like craft, but it isn't too jarring. A very good VTOL overall. Some pictures of the lot during testing (minus the saucer): Of course, none of the crafts were bad. I enjoyed flying all of them, actually. Now comes the hard part...who to put in the front? Hmm... *runs off to get his thinking hat* Edit: Anyway, I put Giggleplex777 and Tarmenius as 1st, followed by Majorjim, SaplingPick and MiniMatt -
Is it this one?

Look ma, angled engines! This is what happens when your mothership needs to get to orbit in one piece-you glue rockets to its heatshield. Yes, it did orbit. But just barely. (Everything above the orange tanks is suspended on a single cubic octogonal strut... plus regular struts. Lots of them.)

Do you mean, like, from a certain bay? Then it's a breach of copyright, AFAIK. The right thing to do would probably be what SkyRender said. Edit: even if it's not virus-infested...you already own a copy, so why should you download?

Quick math joke: "Let ε < 0..." Also: -If an accordionist and a trombone player both fall off a tall building at the same time, which one hits the ground first? -Who cares? (should be noted that this is a self-deprecating one)

BSC: Rocket-powered VTOL - We have a winner!
Ravenchant replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Dammit What were you having problems with? I concede that landing it is hard (particularly when using legs instead of the gear), but as long as SAS is turned on, there were never really any big problems with stability...at least after the droptanks were jettisoned. Anyway, I've tested a few of the submissions and concluded that the Damselfly is awesome. The H.A.L.O. and Snack Wagon, on the other hand, could have a bit more "punch", so to say...getting up to speed takes a while.
