  1. 1) focus on the ship 2) go to map view 3) click the i button on the right-hand side 4) ????? 5) profit!
  2. I'm having the same problem right now. The plane manages a nice, gentle touchdown at ~80 m/s, then hits uneven ground, flips over and explodes. Still searching for a patch of flat land...
  3. Oh lawd, another thread on this. It's been suggested a lot... but why exactly can't a sexless species have mustaches?
  4. Pah, who needs Mainsails? Engine clusters of a Skipper + 3-6 LV-T45s are awesomely powerful as long as part count is no issue
  5. Decoupling on a crash course works well for me, and next-to-payload stages typically have probe cores and solar panels to allow deorbiting later. Of course, before probes were available, things got a bit out of hand. I launched two cleanup missions before deciding it isn't worth it. So after 104 launches in career mode there are 5 debris pieces in LKO, one in Mun orbit (launch escape tower I forgot to jettison) and a few empty stages in interplanetary space
  6. I use either SSTOs or expendable capsules, but nothing in the space shuttle configuration. That said, pretty much all of my rocket stages have parachutes on them, so they could be called reusable in a way
  7. Started to build a Munbase, this time with connected modules. Temstar's awesome modular design was used as inspiration for the crawler and trusses, but I still needed to deliver them...somehow. Oh the feeling of satisfaction when this ugly bas**** actually worked! It needed some F5 spamming, though. When your design is based on flipping things over, something is bound to go wrong
  8. Well, here's mine. Rather bulky, but surprisingly stable...its biggest downside would be the lack of a RTG. Oh, and the docking port is on the back. I'll post the subassembly when I get around to it
  9. Ion-ing is useful for small probes, but you have to be patient. I once did an insertion from Kerbin to Duna that took almost 50 minutes. Ended up setting a phone alarm, else I would have forgoten to finish the burn

    Riddles

I guess "rhetorical question" would be too easy Hmm. Art?
  11. Upon finally trying to make a SSTO that does something useful, this happened. I hope you'll find... some use for it It's not exactly what one would call efficient. The base craft has 94 parts and weighs about 38 tons without payload. Also, there are only 6 ram intakes feeding the 4 RAPIERs. Takeoff is a bit tricky if the plane is fully loaded, because tailstrikes happen rather easily. You may have to wait for the end of the runway to avoid unplanned dissasembly There are 2 versions of the craft: - This one has a payload capacity of 7 tons to LKO (actually a bit more, but then it becomes harder to pilot) - The LR (long range) version, on the other hand, has its cargo bay taken up by a jettisonable fuel tank. (and thus isn't a true SSTO anymore. Oh well...) So why use the second version if it can't carry any cargo? Well, you may need to return cargo from somewhere, and this gives it extra "range". I haven't tested its limits yet, but the base version can get to Duna if it isn't carrying any payload, or get to the Mun and return. The droptank version should get...further. I'll update when I find out something new. Meanwhile, here are some random pics! Launch Profile: - Lift your front wheel off the runway at around 40 m/s - Accelerate either until the runway ends or you manage to lift off without scraping the tail section on the ground - Pitch up to about 50° until 10km or so, then reduce your angle and slowly climb to 20-21 km - Level off at that altitude and build up all the speed you can. Start gaining altitude again - When you start to veer left or right and can't counter it with SAS (usually at 23-24 km), press 1- the first RAPIER pair will go closed cycle - Continue until the plane starts veering again, then press 2 (toggles mode on the second pair) and 3 (toggles intakes). From then on it's business as usual - With the LR version, the droptank should empty out some time after the switch. Once empty, press 5 to jetisson (4 merely toggles reaction wheels) Important: before reentry, shunt all remaining fuel to the forward tanks for stability. Don't say I didn't warn you Please post suggestions, improvements and critics if you tried it out! Except for more intakes...I wouldn't know where to fit more^^
  12. You...you are planning to...land the asteroid? Squad, if any of you happens to read this thread, please listen to him. We need to see this
  13. Viel Glück I'm in a similar situation...going to be buried under differential equations and signal analysis for much of February-.-
  14. Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. (And you are fully entitled to it) Agreed, but War Thunder is as far from simulators as a self-parking, automatic transmission car is from rally racing. Not to mention that a decent chunk of the sim community is apparently more than happy to punch numbers into the flight director and essentially let the plane fly itself (I'm looking at you, tubeliner fans!).
  15. That's normal. I assume that you built the parts in red starting with the Hitchhiker? If you want to save it as a subassembly, the radial attachment port has to be its root part. SelectRoot is invaluable for such occasions
  16. I fixed most of the stability issues my SSTO had. It still doesn't want to take off that easily, but at least it doesn't tip backwards anymore and docking is a breeze. Will release tomorrow (probably)
  17. Heh, my first station got named Sárkány. Memories... And that's...quite a lot of solar panels
  18. Always check the flight log after physics kick in on the pad! Sometimes...weird things take place and structural failures happen when they shouldn't
  19. This, so much. Alternatively, have at least one battery "locked" to provide emergency power for extending the panels/reorienting the ship. Lost a recent mission because I didn't do this. Although I didn't forget to extend the panels. "Eh, one gigantor should suffice, it only has one probe core"... then of course the ship is rotated so that its only panel is in shadow. Power runs out. Bugger.
  20. General discusion, the Labs, Spacecraft exchange and occasionally Gameplay would be where I'm active the most. Though I don't download others' crafts (at least not for the "serious" save), a lot of the stuff posted is really awesome and good for getting inspiration. That said, my thread there has yet to garner any attention
  21. Of course they are. But Ganymede, for example, is a moon. Our moon is the Moon, capitalised.
  22. Insisting those are correct is stupid, yes, but people may not know the official English astronomic names even though they post in English (newbies, for example ...and Italians). Not that it gives them any sort of immunity, but still.
  23. Sure, as soon as I resolve the handling-like-a-pregnant-whale issues
  24. Strela III deploying some satellites in Munar orbit: Technically, it did a flyby and the sats had to circularize under their own power, but...close enough
  25. I don't do spotting because there isn't really much avation to speak of in our country, but a plane freak? Certainly! I'll probably get a glider license someday. Probably.
