It seems like an amazing concept, but I'd be wary until they show a bit more. How is the thing powered? RTGs are heavy, and 75kg doesn't exactly leave a lot of wiggle room...

What DON'T we want in KSP?
Ravenchant replied to Deathsoul097's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
One of the main reasons procedural planets/solar systems won't happen is because Squad want the difficulty of achieving "milestones" be the same across the playerbase. With one or two toggleable options estimating the difficulty someone plays at would be manageable, but with dozens or hundreds of possible combinations? Hardly. I'd write something about the irony of you criticizing others' attention spans and then not taking the time to keep your grammar at a reasonable level, but flamewars lead nowhere. On topic: I wouldn't like to see the player being forced to complete contracts all the time to advance in career mode. They should help with progression and money issues, but missions from own initiative should be viable as well. -
Would it be a bad idea to travel the speed of light?
Ravenchant replied to willwolvescry's topic in Science & Spaceflight
For all practical purposes, "light-speed travel" means near or infinitesimally close to the speed of light. Travelling exactly at light-speed is not FTL, photons do it all the time. It's actually technically possible to go FTL - just not in a vacuum -
Pfft, where's the challenge in that? Seriously though, I'm forgoing part mods (apart from KER) on my current save. If any, KWrocketry fairings are used. The procedural ones look so... ungainly.
-
Oh man, I totally forgot about the part welder! Thanks

Discovered that cubic octagonal struts combined with the static solar panels allow for some sweet looking, light fairings. Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to cover anything else but small probes. I tried and the part count crashed my game.

Ravenchant replied to willwolvescry's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Nope. At 99,9% lightspeed, the Lorentz factor is still only about 22,4, which means that for each "week" passing for the people on the ship, the stationary universe around them ages about half a year. If you want to get to the edge of the galaxy, you'll have to go faster than that. At 99,9999% c it would just about be achievable within a human lifetime. -

The music from Sunshine would certainly qualify:

Warfare with whom? There aren't going to be any aliens, and no competing space program, according to the info we have if I remember that correctly -
propeller's and such
Ravenchant replied to Stilgar2300's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Aircraft for Mars have been considered and, to an extent, tested. Just not powered ones. Apart from Kerbin, two planets with an atmosphere are among the most likely targets for new players. A propeller would be useful, but would probably need to consume a LOT of electric charge to be balanced. On a side note, a powered, flying Titan probe sounds like the coolest thing ever. -
Do note that due to the square-cube law and several other limitations, simply scaling all stats up/down linearly is unrealistic. One type of engine may lose efficiency when made 2x bigger, another may gain it. Enlarged landing legs wouldn't be able to support proportionally enlarged loads as well etc.

How about an Elite ( orange status )!
Ravenchant replied to Blo0d's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
An option to "promote" Kerbals would be welcome, as long as it isn't done automatically. After all, every player has his/her own idea of what constitutes an achievement worthy of promotion. For EVA excursions, I think both mission patches and coloured stripes on helmets have already been proposed as a way to make them somewhat unique. -
Last module of the current project about to be docked: Don't know why, but the even background kinda makes it stand out more

What was the most unnecessarily complicated thing you have done?

What was the most unnecessarily complicated thing you have done?
Ravenchant replied to InterCity's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Oh wow, there are some inspiring tales to be found here The most unnecessarily complicated...hm... I'm guessing my current mission. I never sent any kerbals out of their home planets' sphere of influence yet (I wanted to reliably pull off interplanetary transfers before)... so naturally, the first ship about to do so is a fragile 100+ ton beast carrying three auxiliary craft. Here's hoping things won't go horribly, horribly wrong. -
1) That depends on you, but a straight-to-45° pitchover is not a gravity turn. Also, in real life or when using FAR, the rocket would most likely disintegrate if attempted 2) Ideally, time it so that about half of the burn is done before the node and half after it. Not exactly 50%, because you're losing mass during the burn, but you don't have to pay much attention to that usually.

You mean the Hitchhiker? It's had internals for a while now. IIRC an overhaul of plane parts is planned at some point in the future. Meanwhile, there's this mod

Is there a song that seems to be a theme for your Kerbals...?

"Into sea of eternal glory my spaceship crash" (sic) Fitting -
After being occupied most of the day, I managed to (between some calls and texting) fuel up my Duna-bound mothership in orbit and ferried a preliminary crew to it. Then pondered what to name it once it's complete...

KSP Abbreviations, for the newbs :P
Ravenchant replied to BasOne's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I salute you, sir. But delta-V really shouldn't be abbreviated as dV. Maybe d-V, DV or ÃŽâ€v. dV is easy to confuse with either the speed, or volume differential. Which usually wouldn't be a problem, but since this game is intrinsically tied to some mathematics, it may lead to a confused newcomer or two. -
Nope, to be a legitimate contestant he has to get this to work first Impressive, though!
-
Thanks, I'll remember that when I go to Gilly (and also snag your winglet-for-girder-fairing idea) But for now, Duna is the name of the game! On the first day of Yule, this program gave to meeee... Mwahahaha- -MWAHAHAHA- I still don't know how I managed to get it to orbit. Tomorrow (or when there's time) it'll be fuelled up, two landers and a capsule docked to it and off it goes!

Very nice! The first and last pictures in particular are great Your ship must have been a nightmare to balance out, though. What's its TWR?

A sweater, a pretty awesome dress shirt and some obligatory sweet-ish stuff ...this thread reminds me that I still have to come up with some gifts for friends, though
