  1. Thanks. A quick survey I did of various real life mass : payload ratios in many rockets seems to show the initial ratios generally in the 30s - low 40s? Pretty interesting. Granted, this is fiction. That makes sense... good eye too.

  3. Does ~630t of vehicle sound outrageous for getting a 30t payload to 380km orbit? I'm new to realism, my mind is exploding seeing your 100-200 ton payloads.... any suggested optimizations I could do here without breaking out the slide rule? Lifter stage (one 4-nozzle RD-181 (?) and four Saturn 5m tanks ): Not shown: intermediate RP-1/LOX stage, the fuel tank is right behind the front fairing and engine is in the striped cone.   4. I've been making my own maneuver modes and letting Mechjeb execute them. It acts funny over long distances. Sometimes it even misses maneuvers by a couple of days at high warp. Also try aligning your planes before doing the transfer, it makes things a bit easier. I did Moho a lot recently (to send refuel and support to my guys stranded at Moho lol). Typically my dV requirements are approximately: 950 m/s to escape Kerbin from a 100 km orbit. 1100 m/s to align planes at a AN / DN. 2200 - 2600 m/s to transfer 3000+ m/s to brake into orbit So total delta V is around 7250 m/s to break Kerbin orbit and insert into Moho orbit. I'd leave Kerbin orbit with a ship carrying around 10,000 m/s and plan on sending another ship to refuel later. I use the "launch anytime and make a bigger rocket" method of planning my travels.
  5. Interesting. I will try turning off FSAA later. I have an i5 760, thought about upgrading to a i7 4770K, but would I see a substantial improvement with a newer i5 K series (i.e. 4670K)? It's not too bad, I start lagging slightly with part numbers in the mid 100s. I'm launching ~300 part ships at laggy but workable fps though. With visual mods. GPU is a 1 GB Geforce 560 TI, starting to show its age but I'm pretty sure it's not the bottleneck.
  6. It's far from optimal I guess but my MO lately has been to launch whenever, break Kerbin orbit, match planes at a AN or DN, then find a Hohmann transfer point. This means that my Kerbals can spend a long time orbiting the sun but it works. After 1 year 111 days in space my first Eeloo mission is finally burning to intercept where it falls inside Jool's orbit.

  8. Managed to either unlock a terrible bug or despite dozens of successful powered landings I forgot lander design 101 and stranded 2 kerbals on Minmus. Despite TWR of 13 and 55 for two designs I tried, it was like the engines weren't even there although they were burning fuel. Luckily though both pods survived and a rescue mission will be sent... Hopefully THAT lander works.

  11. Which clearly balances out, in a way. Or charge an "assembly fee" for each part used... But yes I'm sure it will be rebalanced several times.

  14. ^^lol I got to Dres, landed in 2 spots including the eastern entrance to the infamous Dres canyon, and returned to Kerbin. Unlocked the entire vanilla tech tree at last!
  15. Played around with making an asteroid base (nothing good yet), and right now in the midst of a 22 min burn to Dres encounter

  17. Jeb just took up permanent residence on his new asteroid in Kerbin orbit. dat view tho...
  18. Began attempting to build an Eve lander and return vehicle from scratch, no outside help besides knowing the dV chart and looking at the stats from Mechjeb.
  19. I got the kraken and random game weirdness when I had a ship reenter Kerbin on a steep path at something like 5000 m/s. Like the flight path went straight through the center of Kerbin.
  20. Wrapped up a Jool mission and tested a new build at Eve. The Astronomer visual pack is really pretty.
