  1. KitKat released this really cool ( unscientific I know ! ) Ad during Diwali. the interiors do look similar.
  2. Damn ! how did I miss this ? anyway, the Boiler plate will be tested in December ( sub orbital only ) using the new GSLV MK -III. this has been an Interesting year for ISRO, Cryo engines, Mars probes, new rockets and now a crew capsule !
  3. lol, its running ok, but I am having some slowdown issues ( probably due to the 2GB DDR2 RAM and the Core2 duo processor ) but I can't complain; I am getting Mid-level performance on an ancient machine !
  4. I just bought a R9 270x and my board is a old G31 with PCIe 1, works just fine ( a huge 'thank you !' to Camacha for suggesting it )
  5. Can we expect some fancy pictures from the 5 orbiters around Mars ?? ( 100 posts ! yay !! )
  6. As a compromise, maybe they could have alternate periods of activity and sleep ?? wake up, communicate with earth, check if everything is fine, talk etc. then go to sleep for a month or so, rinse and repeat till you get near Mars. of course, this is assuming that the 'sleeping' process is simple and can be done by an individual. if you need someone else to do it, then you gotta take turns and things might get messy...
  7. The system is only designed to cover India and a radius of 1500 Km around it, the positioning of the satellites (Three of the satellites in the constellation will be located in geostationary orbit at 32.5° East, 83° East, and 131.5° East longitude. Two of the GSOs will cross the equator at 55° East and two at 111.75° East, see the picture in my earlier post ) means that all 7 would have continuous radio visibility with Indian control stations, the stated accuracy is less than 10 meters for the Indian Subcontinent and less than 20 meters in the surrounding 1500 KM region.
  8. Beautiful !! I didn't understand the video though, was that the game or ?
  9. Launch and satellite deployment was successful. the IRNSS-1C is now an elliptical orbit of 282.56 km X 20,670 km. It worth noting that this was the 27th consecutive successful launch for the PSLV. The constellation of 7 satellites will be completed by 2015.
  10. About the 'regional' part of the IRNSS; it is designed to cover the whole of India and extends to 1500 KM around the subcontinent. it is clear that this system was designed as a back-up GPS for the Indian Armed forces, while also providing a home made Navigation system for local users.
  11. Another full disc image of Mars, taken by the Mars Color Camera, from an altitude of 66,543 km. Dark region towards south of the cloud formation is Elysium - the second largest volcanic province on Mars.
  12. It looks like a fun concept, I will definitely follow its development ! ps, when you have the time, think about modifying the website; I know you have bigger things to look at, but a good site is important. right now the some of the text are in black and are nearly invisible with the background. Good luck and safe travels !!
  13. The launch of ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-C26, is now scheduled on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. The launch window of the mission opens at 0132 hrs IST and lasts till 0147 hrs IST. The lift-off is scheduled at the opening of the launch window at 0132 hrs IST. The Mission Readiness Review (MRR) Committee and the Launch Authorisation Board (LAB) met on October 07, 2014 to review the progress of prelaunch activities and cleared the launch for October 16, 2014. The 67 hour count down for the mission will commence at 0632 hrs IST on October 13, 2014.
  14. Death to all cheap PSUs !! about five years ago, my cheap PSU spiked and fried my processor ! I have no clue how that happened, but trust me, it was burnt that's when I stopped 'saving money on PSUs' and started paying more attention to them. My CX500 has not given me any problems so far.....
  15. thanks for being patient everyone 1. I plan to use the PC for Gaming and programming ( mostly Java ). I play games like KSP, the Total war series [ right now just Empire], Microsoft Flight Simulator X, SOSE, X COM and the occasional FPS like CoD. I don't mind playing on low or medium settings. 2. I can stretch my budget to INR 25,000. - I already have the following - 1 TB Western Digital Hard Disk - Corsair CX500 PSU - 21 inch Full HD Dell LED monitor ( 1920x1080 resolution) - A generic Mouse and Keyboard - An old Logitech Attack 3 Flight stick 3. I live in Chennai, India. I will be ordering from FlipKart or Amazon India. [ I would prefer FlipKart as I am a premium member and can get deliveries faster] 4. I live in a hot coastal city and I need a way to keep the system cool. 5. I do not plan on overclocking 6. Size and noise are not issues 7. This build would have to last for at least 2 years before I can upgrade again. 8. While crossfire sounds awesome, I don't see me using it.
  16. Thanks for the advice everyone, I guess i'll just wait for a little while longer. @Camacha could you recommend a bare minimum configuration ?
  17. sorry about that ! would I be able to play games like Rome II with an i3 processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM and an 1Gb DDR3 Nvidia GeForce GT 620. ( at least on low to medium settings ) ? I am sorry if I sound Stingy, but its all I can afford right now. besides, computer parts a bit cheaper in India, so I could get some good deals.
  18. I completely agree ! I once had a ....ty Zebronic PSU; almost ruined my pc ! I now have a Corsair CX 500, shouldn't that be enough for i3 or i5 processor, 4Gb of RAM and 1Gb graphics ?
  19. interesting article, Scott Manley has an interesting video on this topic.

  21. The Buran was destroyed in 2002 when the Hanger Collapsed. two prototypes are in museums though.
  22. I am certain that the IRNSS was authorized to make sure we had a secondary navigation system if we ever lost access to 'GPS'. but I am not sure about the capabilities of IRNSS. especially since its called the 'Independent Regional Navigation Satellite System'.
