The Versatility Marathon Challenge
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yeah, if it has the same ISP as the other ones, then I would feel better about it. Engines with power differences could give people advantages over those with stock engines, so if you dial down the ISP, then I'll approve it. The other parts are fine. Engineer Redux is fine, Mech Jeb is fine. You have a point about the points... Do you think 100 point differences would be better compared to the 50 that's there now? So: Option 2: 350 Option 3: 400 Or Option 2: 400 Option 3: 500 -
LOL, that picture cracked me up. The ATV looks good tho. Remember to switch it to FWD when climbing mountains, it makes it a lot easier.

The Versatility Marathon Challenge
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'll need to see a screenshot of it for approval. I don't know about this nuclear engine... Unless the fuel consumption rate evens out the extra power it provides, it seems a little over powered compared to the stock one. The other parts are fine. -
The Versatility Marathon Challenge

This isn't supposed to be easy, it's a challenge. Really, the core challenge to complete the mission with Option 1 is relatively easy. But manned missions are not easy and that's why you get more points for them. -

Yeah all stock for me, I don't use mods. The LZ in the pictures is the flattest spot I could find for you guys so as long as you aim for that LZ your craft should land on level ground. -

Yeah, I rescued Jeb once from that very same island. I'm working on improving my craft so I can do a 4 Kerbal science team to the surface and back. -

Only this one would be valid. You can land an unmanned lander and do an EVA Kerbal to the surface and back, but you can't land the Kerbal on the surface with the lander and then just go back separately. -

700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
No, you land your tiny lander craft on the surface of Gilly and return it to the command ship. If you do the Extreme EVA then you get extra points, but you still have to land a regular lander. The lander should have some science gear and a satellite dish. -

Extreme EVA: Landed and returned to orbit without the aid of a spacecraft. Use a EVA Kerbal's jet pack to land and return to the orbiting ship for Gilly. -

Good job on deorbiting the debris, 30 points added to your score. I have to refuel my ship now. New mission will go up in 1 hour and 30 minutes! -
Score updated, good job.

Well, it was going over the process of how to make it, then you get the launch. -

700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well, my mission 01 is finally completed. Here: http://imgur.com/a/zkBnp#0 The screenshots may not all be in order. Mission Complete = 150 Minmus satellites = 10 Mun satellites = 10 Extra satellites deployed = 20 Deploy ground rovers = 15 I know what I need = 25 Bring the Gang along for the ride = 10 My Mun Com Rover flipped over so I'm subtracting 5 points for that. 150+10+10+20+15+25+10 = 240 No debris left in orbit. Total Score = 240 -
Help with massive launcher!
700NitroXpress replied to ScottyDoesKnow's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You should never under any circumstances, stack orange tanks on top of each other like that. They tend to not stay together very well, and you're carrying a huge amount of excess weight with you for longer than you need to. Use drop tank designs instead and you can easily get 500 tons into orbit. I've lifted over 700 tons into orbit with that method. Use grey tanks instead and focus all of the energy on the payload. -

To answer your question: No they do not. This is one of those bonuses that's designed to mitigate the debris being left in space penalty. All of the additional kerbals have to be in their own pod or in hitchhiker storage bays. If you land the kerbals on the moons, then you get an additional bonus for the landings, but for bring the gang along for the ride, it's only bringing them with you and returning to LKO after the mission is complete. I'm glad you like the challenge, I'm hoping to get a lot of people in on the challenge so feedback from everyone is great in fine tuning the challenge so everyone can participate. -
There are those huge wheels in the utilities section, beyond that, I wouldn't know for stock parts. You would want a low center of mass anyway because that will give you better stability. As for the bonus challenge... maybe. I'll add it to the additional bonus challenges list if it can be done without damage to the ATV. You would also have to specify what you mean by "hill". A hill to a kerbal would be small, but a large hill would send the ATV flying and it would get destroyed from the impact with the ground.

SSTO Without Rockets Challenge
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Highest orbit has to be within the Kerban SOI. You can get all of the gold medals if you have the best design in each category. Use as many designs as you want. -
SSTO Without Rockets Challenge

What I was saying is no liquid fuel, oxidizer, combo engines. So no aerospikes or regular rockets. Regular jet engines use just liquid fuel. -
Achieving orbit without rockets?
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Interesting designs, very cool stuff. Check out the challenge I made for this in the challenges thread, I think you'll do well. -
The challenge is simple, make a plane that can achieve orbit of Kerban with a minimum altitude of 70,000 meters for both periapsis and apoapsis. You are forbidden from using mods, cheats, editing files of any kind. You have to make your plane out of all stock parts. The plane must take off from the space plane hangar. It must have wings and use at least 1 jet engine. It must seat 1 brave Kerbal. You can't use any rockets, liquid fuel or Solid Rocket Boosters. You can use RCS and Ion systems along with your jet engines. You can't jettison anything from your plane during flight either. The scoring will be as follows: Person with the heaviest plane = Heavyweight Gold Medal Person with the lightest plane = Lightweight Gold Medal Person with the fewest parts = Skilled builder Gold Medal Person with the greatest orbit = High Flyer Gold Medal Land on Another planet or moon = Master of Flight Medal (Insert Planet name here) Leaderboards will have the top 3 people for each category and a masters category for those who achieve more than one gold medal. You can get Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. Everyone else gets a special special commendation award for completing the challenge. This challenge has been proven to be possible so it can be done (special thanks to: allmhuran). Good Luck Submit screenshots showing the part count, weight, and the orbital view of the periapsis and apoapsis shown. Leaderboards: Right - Lightweight Gold Medal, Skilled Builder Silver Medal, High Flyer Bronze Medal Tembaco - Heavyweight Gold Medal carazvan - High Flyer Gold Medal, Skilled Builder Bronze Medal, Heavyweight Silver Medal, Lightweight Bronze Medal, Master of Flight Medal (Laythe) allmhuran - Skilled Builder Gold Medal, Heavyweight Bronze Medal, Lightweight Silver Medal, High Flyer Silver Medal Special Commendations: Yasmy

Achieving orbit without rockets?
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Impressive, well done sir! What's the weight stats on that plane and part count? By the way, the challenge has just been created in the challenges thread. -
Achieving orbit without rockets?
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This would be brilliant if we could do it. This is officially a challenge now. But since we haven't actually succeeded in any of it yet, we have first prove if it's doable. I think you're onto something with this. -
Achieving orbit without rockets?
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Without rockets, this would be hard. Even with an extreme air intake system, this may not be possible. The plane would have to be ultra lightweight, have a huge amount of air intake and at least 8 turbojet engines. Getting a jet to escape velocity would need to be done at 20km minimum because you would only have between 20km and 40km to work with before you can't run turbojets. -
Achieving orbit without rockets?
700NitroXpress replied to 700NitroXpress's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, you have the best shot at this so far because your plane got a high enough apoapsis. I wasn't asking about pure jet power. I was asking if it could be done with jet power and RCS or Ion engines in combination with jet power. No rockets or SRB's, but RCS and Ion engines along with the jet engines. So, if you had RCS or an Ion engine system on your plane, could you get it into a full orbit at 70,000 meters minimum on both ends? That's the challenge.
