  1. I've gone with parachute assists, the lander uses it's engines to slow down more than a 1000 m/s before deploying the parachutes and then takes over again for the last 500m. I used the Apollo LEM descent engines for the landing stage, which also acts as the the first ascent stage.
  2. I'd like to do a Mars transfer and landing using chemical fuel and in one launch, thus the C-8! With using the third stage for the Mars transfer my mission mass is about 76-82 Tonnes, so I'm trying to shrink everything down! Here is the lander, it's pretty much ready: The Skylab is a great idea! I'm using a hitchhiker for living space and a rotating section for the three kerbal crew to sleep in. In reality this would be pretty small, but doable I think:
  3. Certainly interesting for me, I've been puzzling over the life support usage myself.
  4. Go big or go home! For my RO Mars mission I'm using my version of the proposed Apollo C-8 launch system, 4568 Tonnes, capable of more than 210 Tonnes to a 250km orbit. Eight F1's in the first stage, Eight J-2's in the second, it's a monster
  5. Thank you, I look forward to this eating even more into my productive time
  6. What I really like about this is how it makes you start building efficient multistage rockets, while you can still play around with all the wacky mods available. Like others in the thread I've just done an Mun landing, 850 tonnes to get a two kerbal Alcor pod to the surface. An Apollo style rocket came about naturally with the limitations imposed by physics and the parts available. Loads of fun, I think I will try Duna next
  7. Hi immelman. Yes pretty much you are right, KSPTOT works with any star system but needs the bodies parameters, from a "bodies.ini" file it has in its root folder. The "bodies.ini" that comes with the standard KSPTOT distro is about the stock Kerbol system. For any other star system (including RSS) there is a nice utility from KSPTOT main menu/file/"Create New Bodies File From KSP". You must have KSPTOT Connect correctly installed within the KSP GameData folder, and have that KSP install running for that to work. Thank you for your help! Now let's see how close I can get to the mission profile
  8. I've been really impressed with the efficient mission plans you have worked out from Kerbin using this tool and was wondering what I would have to do to adapt this for use with Real Solar System? Would this be possible at all?
  9. Hi there. I'd like to replicate the Voyager 2 mission in Real Solar System and would like to use KSPTOT to help me plan the burns. Would someone have information on the orbital information I need to start on this, it looks like I need a "bodies" file for the Sol system?
  10. Pingopete, you are doing Jeb's work. I listened to the same quote used in the short film Wanderers: http://www.erikwernquist.com/wanderers/ Your short piece evoked the same kind of wonder.
  11. Wow that really does look amazing! Give this to me ASAP
  12. -22 flybys: 1 of Mun, 1 of Eve, 2 of Kerbin, 4 of Laythe, 4 of Vall, 6 of Tylo, 2 of Bop and 2 of Pol. Yep far more patient than I am that's for sure. With this efficiency why not go for the low mass crown?
  13. Should check out Plad's challenge a while back, some of the entries had very low delatv. The amount of LF used is just a function of engine size anyway?
  14. Yep, I found the best thing was to ignore the descent mode, align the capsule with the service module before decoupling and use RCS just for pitch, at 3.5 degrees AOA the capsule re-enters fine. As far as I could see using RCS build aid, it has no roll at all.
  15. Thank you for your mod! I'm going to take a look and see if I can work it out myself.
  16. Thank you for your advice, I will take a look and get back to you.
  17. Hello, I would like to add (or modify) the conical heat shields by LostOblivion: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/91920-0-25-Oblivion-Aerospace-Pack-New-heat-shields-for-DRE!-%28v0-1-3-2014-09-18%29 to work with Realism Overhaul. Being a modding newbie how should I go about this, should I adapt the part and submit it for inclusion?
  18. Using the excellent FASA Saturn 5/ Apollo replica I did my best to imitate a classic Apollo mission, pretending it was not cancelled and Apollo 18 still flew. For fun I selected the Moon's dark side for my landing (Crater number 131 on this map): http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/luna/moon_farsidemap03.htm Launch was a bit harder than it should have been due to the lift of the rocket, but hats off to RedAV8R, the Realism Overhaul Apollo setup works really well:
  19. Since you asked... I've enjoyed using your heat shields on Duna missions and now would like to scale up to Real Solar System/Realism overhaul. Have you given any thought about releasing a version of these for RSS? How complicated would this be to do I was wondering...
  20. Thank you for this beautiful looking mod! I was wondering if anyone has used this with Real Solar System/Realism overhaul, if so did you need to adjust it?
  21. Hi, I was wondering how to add a launch site. I've been playing with historical launches and am interested in adding Peenemunde. It's time to bomb London
  22. Thank you for taking the time to write this. It's making learning KOS a lot less painful...
  23. Thank you for keeping this updated! Once you get used to it you cant play without this mod...
  24. Thank you for the excellent mod. Also for including an alternative Sabatier config with Methane output! This makes Zubrin type mission a whole lot simpler...
