  1. purpleivan: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 3! link to the mission is here Your mission has some really notable aspects! At first you put your main ship in an orbit around Jool (between Laythe and Vall). This is so much more easier and cheaper in dV than to go back into a given orbit around a moon! And second you brought the ion-lander to Tylo and left it in orbit as the return vehicle, awesome idea!!! Landing on Tylo needs around 6000 m/s but getting into low-orbit and going out also needs about 2x 1000 m/s (or more?) so bringing the low-mass ion lander is just a number one solution, now I learned something new. This is what makes me motivated to run this challenge, to see awesome solutions and ideas! And good distribution of the landers and Kerbals later on too, very nice mission, thank you for participating!
  2. HANNIBALLA: Congratulation, you have finished the JOOL-5 on the Level 1 low-mass challenge... AGAIN! With an awesome 7.556 tons! the link to the mission is here Pretty cool, I see you had some hard time leaving Kerbin but this is usual with a Jet/ion combo. It's always hard so respect! Hmm, I liked that your Jet-only Laythe lander and yeah you can easily reach several hundreds of kms apoapsis with rocketing (jetting) out of the atmosphere. And I did the same "rescue mission" for the Kerbal with the ion lander in my low-mass entry too! These are epic low-mass solutions there! But using so much EVA propellant at the end is getting to be too tricky... I accept it but it's on the edge! This is funny because most of the mission could be done by EVA this way, hehe... Awesome mission, thank you for participating!
  3. John FX: Congratulation, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 1! link to the mission is here (It could have been a Level 3 if you had each Kerbal landing on one moon...each would be trained for one landing only) I really loved your big main ship and your docking/moon tugs, and nice landers too! And the ALCOR capsule is all right to be used as you did it, that's not advantage gaining like that. Nice one, thank you for participating!
  4. Congratulation, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 1! (It could be a Level 3 if you had each Kerbal landing on one-one moon...as each would be trained for one landing only. But in your mission Bill landed on Laythe and Jebediah made the other landings...the little selfish .......! ) I really loved your big main ship and your docking/moon tugs, and nice landers too! And the ALCOR capsule is all right to be used as you did it, that's not advantage gaining like that. Nice one, thank you for participating!
  5. Wow, AWESOME challenge! And (at least) the 3rd level is harder then the JOOL-5! Cool! based on the JOOL-5/Eve Rocks challenge I suggest one important thing: if you want this to live long then no point systems for the main levels because when there are some entries with close to maximum then most of the people will not want to be an other 'runner up' so there will be less/no entries anymore. This seems like a big and hard mission even for level 1 so this can be a big achievement on its own similarly as JOOL-5 and Eve Rocks. You can introduce sub-points, badges or something similar for some nice solution or big achievements but don't make the points to be the alpha and the omega. Cheers, and I've become excited about this challenge so I might give it a shot if I'll have time!
  6. Check the linked missions if they have peer review/feedback or not! So guys, please help me and check the missions in terms of following the rules, delta-V capabilities, fuel consumption (no unexplained sudden refuelings), etc. I have a lot of work these times so I don't have much time to check the missions but I would not want to close the challenge, so please help me to keep it alive!
  7. Hey! Pretty cool and funny mission! Can you please upload the normal screenshots too so people can check fuel consumption too?
  8. Cool!, I put it out for peer review to the front page! Also guys please help me to check the missions in terms of cheating/fuels/dVs/"is it possible" and comment the missions in their thread if they look eligible! Remember: any of you can be a JOOL-5 Judge! ...and if a mission gets enough thumbs up then it will go into the Hall of Fame! (And those who judged at least three missions will earn a JOOL-5 Judge badge!)
  9. Hey guys, a low-mass and a high-mass entry, cool! I've added the new missions to the peer review list on the front!
  10. Ignium: Yes, of course that is a great advantage! When I started this challenge the orange tanks and mainsails were the biggest ones, there was no Science Lab to collect/reset scientific units, there were bigger wobbling in the code so the ship tore apart easily, and the game code was less optimized so you were limited at 250+ parts with a good PC, etc... When I did this challenge I wanted it to be the hardest one (after a Grand Tour of course, which was imaginable but almost impossible that time), what only the best of the best can achieve. JOOL-5 became much more easier already with development of KSP, and I permitted some mods which helps too... So I'm not happy about welding mods so basically I wouldn't allow it. But you can be an exception if your mission goes much beyond the basic goals! If it won't be too big/legendary then it can go into the Mixed Solution anyway! Reserving JOOL-5 as the "endgame" mission sounds good and motivating! Good idea!!
  11. Then it's time to set up your Moho mission. You will be surprised. Good luck with the rescue mission(s)!
  12. Doing a JOOL-5 is always a big achievement, especially for the first time! So nice job!!
  13. Hi everybody, very sorry about my absence in the last days. Nik333: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on ... omg, for Level 2 both of the Kerbals should have landed, and for Level 3 you should have brought 5 Kerbals, trained one Kerbal for each moon. So I accept this as level 1 entry, okay? Otherwise congratulation on finishing the mission! ALCOR capsule: Yes, it has weight and size advantage over the stock parts. My main concern was it will be used as a lander can which would made landings easier with more Kerbals. Otherwise as JohnFX used it for the main ship can be acceptable as he didn't really gained much advantage with it. I don't want to ban him because otherwise he did it right (did he, guys? I still didn't have time to check the mission in-depth). But I love the ALCOR mod so I'm thinking about a new rule: it can be used if all the mission is done from IVA (except when Kerbals go on an EVA, of course). What do you think? I'm sorry I must hurry now but will update the leaderboard for Nik333 and still looking for some help reviewing JohnFX's entry!
  14. Hey everybody, I was very busy again but I'm happy to see the peer review worked with Nik333! I will accept his entry soon, after worktime. And please check and comment JohnFX's entry too! Cheers!!
  15. . Okay, I have figured out a new, experimental way to keep JOOL-5 alive! It grew over me and would need more time what I have beside the real-life tasks but I'm committed to keep it alive, so I figured out a possible way: 1. a new entry has to be posted under the Mission Reports first 2. link your mission here so everybody can see and check it 3. people who want to help keeping the JOOL-5 alive checks the mission and writes a review (in that thread!) if it was done without cheating and by the rules. Anybody can be a judge! 4. If the mission gets at least three positive feedback I'll post it in the Hall of Fame If somebody reviewed at least 3 missions already will earn a JOOL-5 JUDGE badge! What do you think? And any other ideas is welcome too! Even on reviews, the rules and general feedbacks on the challenge too!
  16. Xannari Ferrows, this is obviously a cheating one. You just can't have that amount of Delta-V with that ship without modifying the cfg or the game engine... And it turned out that your previous JOOL-5 mission was a cheaty one too! Same problem. I can't belive I was so stupid to miss such an obvious cheating at first! I deleted it from the Hall of Fame. Please remove the JOOL-5 Badge from your signature!
  17. raygundan: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 3 with an SSTO cargo-bay launch and a 24.5 tons main ship! WOW, I'm really impressed with your SSTO launch!!! This is pretty cool. Although your interplanetary burn had to be a headache with that 0.02 TWR ion drive! How did you look out the window of the Hitch-hiker storage? Is there a double click on it already? (I didn't try it yet) And I guess you had some hard time to brake into orbit around heavier bodies like Tylo... didn't you? And you brought down your crew with the SSTO too... that's a pity that you didn't bring down the main ship too! Really cool and patient mission, well done!
  18. Sqwazare: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Jebediah's Level! Wow, you really built a huge main ship! I really liked that you landed two kerbals on each moon. Your huge floating solution at Laythe is a pretty unique one! Well documented mission, good job! Thank you for participating, and sorry for the slow review! Thanks for the help, Deutherius, Xannari Ferrows and sdj64!
  19. raygundan: Your album finishes with Laythe landing... maybe imgur deleted your other images. Remember, they allow only about 250 pictures for free. You have to pay for more pictures. ShadowZone, parameciumkid: Yeah, I remember you were working on your missions so don't stop it! You can still send the missions. Deutherius: yeah, concentrate on your finals! But after that you can finish your mission too, just consider the longer review time. parzr, ttnarg: thank you guys! If anybody have some free time to check Sqwazare's mission in terms of fuel/dV consumption (cheating or not) that would help me a lot, because that needs the most time in a review. Drop me a private message about it and I will be very thankful.
  20. HANNIBALLA: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge in the Low-Mass category! Thanks for the detailed answers, you prove you did it. Pretty cool because a very low TWR ion ship is sometimes very hard to fly (out of power, out of power in the dark side, multiple orbits to leave a body, you can fly away next to a moon without enough time to brake into orbit, etc)... but you did it, and you also landed once with TWR 1.0 so that's an amazing job, well done!!! - - - Updated - - - trevize1138: Congratulations for doing a JOOL-5 mission, although because of the lack of the photos I can't really track your fuel/dV and you have some part clipping in your landers which are out of the rule, so I can't put this mission into the official entries. But I really like the cargo bay solution and your jet lander looks pretty cool, so I'm happy to post this mission in the Mixed Solutions! I hope it's all right! ps: Thanks to sdj64 for helping in the review!
  21. Thunderous Echo: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 1! Nice fast-paced video! Sometimes it was hard to follow what happens... 1. you arrived at Laythe and left two orange tanks there 2. you went to Tylo with a tug and landed there, then you went back to Laythe 3. landed on Laythe, then you left the orange tanks behind 4. went to Bop and Pol with the tug only and landed by EVA 5. Then you run out of fuel and GOT BACK TO KERBIN BY LEAVING YOUR SHIP BEHIND AND USING EVA PROPELLANT... right? so your Kerbal was in the space alone for all the way from Jool to Kerbin, right? And you did aerobrake him into a Kerbin orbit.... lol, I'm still laughing! And you sent an orbital rescue mission for him. Maybe you could only attach a parachute to his back with KER and let him land on his own! That's lucky that you sent this mission before the rule-changing that the Kerbal(s) have to be in a pod for the interplanetary journeys.... really crazy mission planning with unique solutions! Thanks for participating!
  22. Hi HANNIBALLA, thanks for your submission, I have some question: 1. how did you leave Kerbin with a 0.02 TWR ion engine? 2. My information on Vall that you need about 2x1100 m/s (2200 m/s total) to land and get back to orbit. Your lander had 1941 m/s. How did you manage that landing? 3. on Bop you landed with a TWR 1. How did you do that? 4. I didn't see a parachute on your pod. How did you land on Kerbin? - - - Updated - - - Thanks a lot, I'm reviewing Thunderous Echo's mission right now, so these missions are still left: trevize1138 (may lack of photo number to really check orbits and fuel consumption, and lander's TWR, ladder and fuel/dV) Sqwazare raygundan
  23. astrobond: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Jebediah's Level! I really liked your reusable SSTO lifter! 509000 funds recovered is a lot! And that's cool that you left a lot of satellites around the Jool System! Even if one went astray! The mothership is nice and compact, and the modular lander is a good one too, the landing legs are strong and good against flipping over. And you landed back almost all the mothership, nice money-wise solution! Well done, thank you for participating! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - Updated - - - http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot34.jpeg Approaching Tylo. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot39.jpeg Ready for the first landing. The ship has around 4.5 orange tanks worth of fuel remaining, which should be more than enough. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot41.jpeg The main reason for heading to Tylo first was to get rid of the 40-tonne Tylo descent stage. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot43.jpeg The descent stage originally had an orange tank, but it made the ship too tall and wobbly. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot50.jpeg Back on Tylo again. The descent wasn't very efficient. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot52.jpeg The obligatory tourist shot. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot60.jpeg With just 9.3 tonnes of payload remaining, the ship has a ridiculous amount of delta-v, which basically guarantees a successful mission. When I launched the same ship on a smaller rocket, I had just 5920 m/s at this point. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot63.jpeg The difference between a highly eccentric orbit around Tylo and a transfer to Laythe is less than 5 m/s. It's about the easiest transfer in the game, as long as you don't accidentally hit Vall. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot66.jpeg Some gentle aerobraking over three passes around Laythe. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot69.jpeg Plenty of fuel remaining. The lander will be fully refueled (one X200-32 fuel tank) for the Laythe landing. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot77.jpeg Hitting land on Laythe required a few quickloads. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot78.jpeg Another tourist shot. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot85.jpeg Jool rising. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot87.jpeg Back in orbit. The fuel tanks are still halfway full. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot88.jpeg The transfer from Laythe to Vall is the hardest one to do efficiently. Patched conics don't work too well deep in Jool's gravity well. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot89.jpeg I ended up doing a weird transfer, where the apoapsis/Vall encounter was 3/4 orbits from where Laythe was when I started the burn. (I thought I had a screenshot of it, because it felt surprising.) http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot90.jpeg Going to Vall was quite expensive. On the positive side, all the remaining landings are quite cheap. For Vall, the lander will receive only 50% fuel (of X200-32). http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot96.jpeg Vall is one of the most boring places in the game. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot98.jpeg Laythe was more interesting. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot100.jpeg Back to orbit. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot103.jpeg Last time I only had 1855 m/s remaining at this point. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot104.jpeg The next stop was Pol. Going from Vall to Bop efficiently would have required some thinking, and I wasn't interested in doing that. I refueled the lander to 50% (of X200-32), because there was going to be some flying around to pay the bills. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot108.jpeg The first obligatory landing site wasn't too nice. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot109.jpeg Went there, got the surface sample. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot112.jpeg One more place to go. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot113.jpeg I did the transfer to Bop in a really lazy and inefficient way, but it still took less than 500 m/s. On the downside, I ended up in a really strange orbit. This time, the lander received only 25% fuel (of X200-32). http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot116.jpeg Bop wasn't supposed to be this flat. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot117.jpeg Apparently the flat place was a high plateau next to an even higher mountain. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot122.jpeg Ready to head back to Kerbin. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot123.jpeg I returned to orbit Jool a bit below Bop (and with a bit less inclination). The timing was perfect, as there was a good launch window to Kerbin immediately. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot126.jpeg With the fuel tanks almost empty, aerobraking at Kerbin was quite effective. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot127.jpeg Back on a nice equatorial orbit with 1912 m/s remaining. Maybe the rocket was a bit overkill. http://jltsiren.kapsi.fi/ksp/0.90/jool-5/screenshot135.jpeg I missed the KSC, because it's located too far south. Jouni: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 2! Your design is what I would call a real stock "beginner" ship, and I mean it in a good way. It is very simple but works well. Yeah, you didn't post too much pictures but that's good that I was able to track your fuel/dV and I see those designs work. That's also cool that you had two Hitch-hiker Storage module so the crew had a really convenient journey. Nice job, thank you for participating!
  24. Hi again, now I have some time to check the missions! I've got zero helping PM about the missions waiting for review... but it was only some days ago so maybe it was just too soon. Anyway, now I'll review as much missions as I can. But I have decided to close the JOOL-5 Challenge for new entries until I'll have more time (if I will ever continue this challenge)...
  25. Well, if you have one ship with all the landers and crew required for the given level and that ship is capable to bring back the main crew (who landed on the moons) to Kerbin without external assistance then it's all right. You can bring additional stuff and Kerbals and leave them in the Joolian System, you can send other ships and they can interact each other if they don't help the main crew with the main goals. - - - Updated - - - OMG, this looks like a really awesome hybrid multi-purpose science base!!! - - - Updated - - - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm sorry guys for being so slow, I have very little free time these weeks and I feel bad about the missions still waiting for a review. What do you think, is there a way to "crowdsourcing" this? I will have some time on Sunday or Monday night to check if it works. I was thinking if any of you have some free time and feel the mood the check these missions in-depth then send me a message with something like this: astrobond's mission the mission seems good and within the rules, no cheating. (checking this needs the most time and is the biggest help for me) Highlights: 1. huge 45000 tons rocket with 4521 part counts 2. some Kerbals were left behind along the way, they've been picked up later 3. accidentally get into orbit around Dres at first, instead of Jool etc...so just short highlights, not long details. That's all. That would be awesome if you could help me with this!!! The more mission you check the more help it will be for me! missions still waiting for review: astrobond Jouni HANNIBALLA Thunderous Echo Jouni HANNIBALLA (low-mass) trevize1138 (may lack of photo number to really check the orbits/fuels) Sqwazare Let's see if this works!
