  1. My biggest hope for 1.0 is stability. I'm with KSP since 0.18.4 and I had the impression that with every release the game became more and more unstable. I remember when I started I got so fkn addicted that I literally played like 34 hours straight away. Now fast forward to 0.24 ... I couldn't play for more than 1-2 hours without the game starting to do weird stuff, like after quick-loading I had nothing but a black screen with some background noise, the menu wasn't responsive, etc. Or during the game things became unresponsive and then looking in the Console it was filled with red exception messages. Then with 0.25 and also 0.90 I was always crashing to desktop after like 30-45 minutes +/-. Then after restarting it also started happening that my contracts were gone, etc. Really frustrating. Game was always below 3GB of RAM and in the end I only used a few mods which required less than 500MB in my GameData folder (1300MB total - 800MB Squad folder). So all thes crashes and instability basically killed the game for me and I didn't play since Dec 2014 anymore. That makes me really sad because I really love the game. But I can't be bothered to play half an hour, than crash, than restart the game again, lose my contracts, start all over again, crash again, rince and repeat ...
  2. Thanks for the answer! Unfortunately this doesn't work here. As I said I'm running KSP in a VM on Ubuntu, KSP 0.90 x64 on Windows doesn't even gets past the loading screen for me (i7 4790k, 16GB RAM, Win 8.1 x64, GTX570). Even removing ATM completely on Ubuntu results the same way in covered planets. :/
  3. I'm just testing KSP 0.90 x64 on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) running on a VMware Workstation. Everything runs surprisingly smooth and fine, only problem I ran into so far is this: Kerbin Laythe Basically all planets with cloud layers (Kerbin, Duna, Laythe) are completely covered and white. Tried several things, changing game resolutions and graphic settings, used different cloud resolutions, nothing helped. Anyone any idea? Maybe changing some config files?
  4. @ctbram: If it crashes at loading you probably simply run out of memory. Open Task Manager and watch KSP.exe memory usage. If it goes beyond 3.3-3.5GB during loading you have too much mods. Problem I have (0.90 / "latest" AVP) after a while playing and switch back from flight to Space Center I'm just getting an "empty" screen, meaning that there is a top and bottom GUI bar, something like a "horizon" (clouds) and the Debug Log shows lots of messages NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at Clouds.Clouds.Update () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 (Filename: Line: -1) NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at Clouds.Clouds.Update () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 (Filename: Line: -1) NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at Clouds.Clouds.Update () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 (Filename: Line: -1) Unloading 1 Unused Serialized files (Serialized files now loaded: 0 / Dirty serialized files: 0) Unloading 0 unused Assets to reduce memory usage. Anyone got an idea?
  5. Just for information: The mod works with 0.90 without any problems.
  6. Thanks alot! Using the editor without your extension was awful.
  7. Compared to my 0.24 directory thats like half. Thanks, gonna try that.
  8. Latest version 1.5.1 from GitHub. KSP x86 0.25. Fresh install. Barely any mods. New game. I built a simple 2.5 asp. staged lifter vessel with a Quad Coupler on its top and 4 small satellites to deploy. I noticed flickering of GUI windows. So I hit Alt+F2 to KSP Debug Console. It is filled with messages like: ArgumentException: Getting control 2's position in a group with only 2 controls when doing Repaint Aborting at UnityEngine.GUILayoutGroup.GetNext () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at UnityEngine.GUILayoutUtility.DoGetRect (UnityEngine.GUIContent content, UnityEngine.GUIStyle style, UnityEngine.GUILayoutOption[] options) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at UnityEngine.GUILayoutUtility.GetRect (UnityEngine.GUIContent content, UnityEngine.GUIStyle style, UnityEngine.GUILayoutOption[] options) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at UnityEngine.GUILayout.DoToggle (Boolean value, UnityEngine.GUIContent content, UnityEngine.GUIStyle style, UnityEngine.GUILayoutOption[] options) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at UnityEngine.GUILayout.Toggle (Boolean value, System.String text, UnityEngine.GUIStyle style, UnityEngine.GUILayoutOption[] options) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at RemoteTech.RTUtil.StateButton[Int32] (System.String text, Int32 state, Int32 value, System.Action`1 onStateChange, UnityEngine.GUILayoutOption[] options) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at RemoteTech.AntennaFragment.Draw () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at RemoteTech.AntennaWindow.Window (Int32 uid) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at RemoteTech.AbstractWindow.WindowPre (Int32 uid) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at UnityEngine.GUILayout+LayoutedWindow.DoWindow (Int32 windowID) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at UnityEngine.GUI.CallWindowDelegate (UnityEngine.WindowFunction func, Int32 id, UnityEngine.GUISkin _skin, Int32 forceRect, Single width, Single height, UnityEngine.GUIStyle style) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 (Filename: Line: -1) GUI Error: You are pushing more GUIClips than you are popping. 9. Because if all the models and textures are not preloaded and hold in "RAM" it will be a pretty big lagfest when you're trying to build something in SPH / VAB, because everything would be loaded on demand from your hard disk, which is like 30-50 times slower than your RAM, even if you got an SSD.
  10. Thats true. Everyone can say what he thinks. But even "facts" are not the truth. "Facts" are subject to change aswell, as soon as you get another point of view or another insight into something. Thats common history. "Facts" 500 years ago were completely different from "facts" today. And "facts" 500 years in the future are probably also completely different from today. And in a discussion, if someone has no "facts" anymore, it doesn't mean you are right. It just means you didn't met the person yet able to take away all so called "facts" from you aswell. And even further - given this example - it is not my fault if I believe in unicorns or Earth is flat, even if it is so damn wrong. It is the fault of the person reading this and going mad about it. Why? Because he lacks of empathy, sympathy and humbleness to "allow me" this belief just for his own purposes: He cannot bear it and therefore takes actions just so that he feels better, more safe or just supreme above someone else. Thats how we ("intelligent human species") are and how "truth" in our society is perceived: The more people agree, the more it must be right. Thats our monkey-business.
  11. I honestly have no idea what both your (and Krytens) problem is, making you go crazy and being insultive like 3-4 pages. I guess you both just missunderstood my "steps into existence wherever it can" phrase. I didn't mean that we have evidence of life ORIGINATING from "nothing" whereever it could. What I meant was that you can find life here on Earth in the most hostile places, even places we thought life could definately not exist some years ago. So thats what I originally meant with "steps into existence". Nothing else. There is basically no single place on Earth where some sort life does not exist. So my conclusion is that if life is so persistent, resistent and versatile chances are quite high that this happened on other planets and / or moons aswell. I wouldn't necessarily put a bet on us finding other sorts of life here in our Solar system, but still I think there are high chances for Europa and maybe Titan. You happy now? ---- You cannot be sure what I meant or assumed based on interwebz text-conversation, since it basically is the worst medium to discuss things. It lacks emotion, emphasis, sound of voice, etc. So missunderstandings and communication faults are to be expected and thus you shouldn't assume the worst of a person you don't know. So if something sounds terribly wrong and unlogic for you, you probably missunderstood something in the process. The last thing you should do at that point is drawing conclusions and getting violent and losing respect. And even if this was my unicorn-belief, that life "steps into existence wherever it can" in the sense of how you understood it first, you have no right in the world to get down on me and proof me wrong, even if you are 100% sure that I'm wrong - unless I ask you to. If you force yourself and your "knowledge of truth" upon someone else without being asked to, then this is nothing better than what the Church did in medieval times. And no, I don't mean that you are not allowed for "constructive discussion" - You see how easy it is to get something wrong?
  12. See edit above: You wouldn't go to a Star Trek convention and discuss with the Trekkis about how much "nonsense" all their SciFi stuff is, wouldn't you? "Warp drive", "Teleportation", "Phaser and Laser Guns" ... "You gotta be kidding me". Also it is a difference if you try to have a constructive conversation or just being plain rude and negative. And you're the latter. This thread is entitled "[sci Fi Theory]" and the OP invited us to share ideas, thoughts and insights. There was no word that anything you write must have been approved by scientific dogma first. So yes, you are invited to put some completely ungrounded speculation here and hopefully don't have some wisenheimer and know-it-all derailing the immersion of the thread since 2 pages.
  13. If that would be your belief, ideas and thoughts, then I wouldn't feel the slightest urge to disprove you or to discuss with you about if you're right or not, since I'm not in the position of an observer who has undoubtable knowledge about "unicorns". And even if I would be, then it wouldn't be very humble or nice of me to force my "knowledge" upon you in any sort, without being asked to share it first. See the issue now? * EDIT * Another example: You wouldn't go to a Star Trek convention and discuss with the Trekkis about how much "nonsense" all their SciFi stuff is, wouldn't you? "Warp drive", "Teleportation", "Phaser and Laser Guns" ... "You gotta be kidding me".
  14. The "intelligent conversation" thingy is getting odd at that point when you claim to know more than the other person, about things which are complete speculation and theory. Even here on Earth it is not clear how, when and where life began. And furthermore not even how it was able to evolve in that short period of time given the numerous mass extinctions. Also latest conclusions and theorys say that chances are high that either the basic components of life OR even more complex life already in forms of amoebas or bacteria have been brought by asteroids. And so we are (finally) back at the original topic: If life was brought to Earth by Asteroids, then chances are high that this has happened somewhere else too. Whoever you refer to with "he", "criticizing logic" doesn't mean "he" is more right. As I said above, we are speaking about subjects which are just pure speculation and theory. I don't understand what "Russel's teapot" has to do with this. Thats nothing about Religion. And it is not a debate about who is right and who is wrong. Because thats not the right thread for that. You do realize that this thread was started by the OP inviting us to share ideas, thoughts and insights, right? The thread was not started to pick someone's ideas and disprove it. Or to find out who's ideas are "nonsense". Honestly mate, don't try so hard dragging this down to a personal level. If you can't stand my ideas and thoughts then this might not be the thread for you. If you think you are right and I am wrong, thats fine. I can leave you there. But stop trying something here. I don't need you to "save" me from my delusions or "hell" or whatever you're thinking.
  15. True. But if you consider Earth's history, life has had a hard time here aswell, multiple times and still managed to persist and even evolve. I don't want to start a fundamental debate here. The ideas of life on Venus, Titan or Europe aren't new and actually come from modern conclussions and theorys. Europa: http://earthguide.ucsd.edu/virtualmuseum/litu/10_3.shtml http://www.space.com/26905-jupiter-moon-europa-alien-life.html Titan: http://www.space.com/17919-life-on-titan-saturns-cold-moon-fascinates-scientists-video.html http://phenomena.nationalgeographic.com/2014/03/17/saturns-largest-moon-would-host-really-really-weird-life/ Venus: http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2009/07/could-atmosphere-of-venus-harbor-life-experts-say-yes.html http://news.discovery.com/space/alien-life-exoplanets/are-venus-clouds-a-haven-for-life-130516.htm * EDIT * I didn't make up anything. You can read about these things all above the internet and see it on Discovery. And on the other hand, you're drawing conclusions from things we don't know. Don't you? If you are part of the "I don't believe it until I see it"-group, then thats ok. I'm part of the other group tho.
  16. Ok, then lets say we have evidence that life on this planet "steps into existence" whereever it can, even in locations we thought life is impossible due to hazardous environments. Hence the simplest conclusion is that if this has happened on Earth, the chances are very high this has happened on other Planets (and / or Moons) aswell.
  17. Life steps into existence whenever the minimal requirements are met. For instance hydrothermal vents in deep sea (black smokers / white smokers) have been found to contain a wide variety of fauna, something "scientists" didn't think of its possibility, unless they saw it. There are lots of Extremophiles, who seem to defy our understanding of life and how it arises. So for me the possibility of life on other planets is like 100%. I'm even pretty sure we will find extraterrestrical life forms in our very solar system. Maybe Europe, Titan, even Venus (higher atmosphere) is possible and already have been discussed. But well, "intelligent" life is something different. And also very philosophical. Because what is intelligence? Can we really claim that we are "intelligent"? Does Earth inhabit "intelligent" life? I wouldn't say yes for sure. Yes, you can look in Wikipedia for the definition of "Intelligence". But thats not what I mean. We are pretty self-destructive, self-centered, have no harmony with ourself, we have a small vision and we are pretty dogmatic. Science is our religion. Things not approved by science are pretty much irrelevant. Before Science it was the Church. Things not approved by Church were nonsense and irrelevant. We wage wars 24/7 and fight over resources and land masses. We discriminate others because of their beliefs, thoughts, sexuality, color, wealth (or poverty), appearance, etc. The rich trying to become richer, at the cost of the not-so-rich (or even pi**-poor). Like 75% of world wide wealth is hold by like 25% of people. Etc. Etc. Space? LoL. Who cares. Worthless since it costs too much money. And what can you get out of it anyway? So thats our situation. We are too busy with ourselfs to look over the plate's edge. We have potential to become an intelligent life form. Yes. But from my point of view, we (meaning humanity as a whole) are not there yet, since we are overall still acting like animals or primates, since we do follow the same basic routines: Eat, Sleep, Mate, Poop, Fight. Doing it with more style doesn't necessarily mean we are intelligent.
  18. Ok, I got it. Thanks guys. 1 DTS-M1 (pointing to Active Vessel) and 1 Communotron is enough. Just did some tests. But since I don't have the Communotron 32 yet (with 5.0 Mm range) I need to setup an (temporary) array in a lower Orbit I guess, otherwise the C16 can't relay to KSC.
  19. Even if Squad quits, I'm with KSP since 0.18 and the game was worth the 20€ from the very first minutes, especially after you got beyond the first "learning curves".
  20. Hello I have a set of probes in Keostationary Orbit. 2 Reflectron KR-7 90Mm Dishes 2 Communotron 16 2.50Mm Omni Directional Antennas All probes have Power. All Dishes are set to Mission Control / Active Vessel. All Omni Antennas are deployed. Now the following happens (follow mentioned satellites counter clockwise, so COM.T1 #2 is left from COM.T1 #3, etc.): First image shows COM.T1 #3 having an active relay to COM.T1 #2 and is within 2.5Mm range. Dish 1 is pointed to Mission Control. Dish 2 to Active Vessel. The Satellite has NO connection: Next image shows COM.T1 #2 with the exact same setup. COM.T1 #2 has an active relay to COM.T1 #1 and is within 2.5Mm range. Dish 1 is pointed to Mission Control. Dish 2 to Active Vessel. This Satellite HAS connection: Last image shows COM.T1 #3 again. This time with forced connection to COM.T1 #1. Now this Satellite HAS connection aswell: But why is it only working in this setup? Isn't Sat#1 meant to relay to Sat#2, Sat#2 to Sat#3 and so on? I really don't get it why this isn't working?!
  21. Same happened again. Returning from a Mun mission back to Space Center scene. This time with no crash, but an "empty" Space Center screen instead. When I quit to Main Menu and reload, Debug Log scrolls down a ton of red "NullReferenceException" messages.
