  1. Hey thanks for keeping this updated. Just got back into the game and forgot how wonky and dumb that setting is...google led me right here! Nice thinkin'.
  2. Made this: The Nova Corps Starblaster from Guardians of the Galaxy. Took forever because I couldn't find a design I liked with the right parts, etc. Finally got it down. The wings fold back like in the movie with infernal robotics and it is very controllable in space or atmosphere.
  3. I wasn't until I tried to recreate the Nova Corps Starblaster from Guardians of the Galaxy. I spent hours on it...all day pretty much. So much tinkering. I finally did it. Movable wings and flies pretty good. Infinite fuel cheat is obviously required - a lot of things I want to recreate can't be made with KSP fuel...ya know - scifi.
  4. Nova Corps Starblaster From Guardians of the Galaxy Greetings! I really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy and I really fell in love with the Nova Corps' Starblaster. Its the yellow one with 8 wings. So I set out to recreate it in KSP. After many, many attempts and styles, this is what I came up with. It has collapsible wings via Infernal Robotics and flies really well with SAS on. The wings were wobbly at first so I had to download Quantum Struts to lock them in place - can't use regular struts because then the wings won't move. The first version handled better than the final (see below). It has problems, I think, because the center of thrust is so close to the CoM and CoL. Additionally, the mass is not distributed well and the CoL is infront of the CoM (to compensate for the CoT being so close). I tinkered and tinkered, and eventually settled for a small control surface on the nose which helped stability. It does fly well as long as SAS is on and always rights itself after losing control. I'm no good in the SPH, maybe someone else can figure it out. Ugly - no! But it was too big, I really didn't like the body of it. The Nova from the movie is very...concise, this was too bulky. Additionally, the engine stuck out too far. The Nova in the movie has the engine right next to where the wings fold. It handles better, though, because the center of thrust is further back. So this is what I ended up settling with. Smaller, body looks better, the engine is strong and set back properly. I added the circular intake for aesthetics to block the view of some of the innards. Caveat: -Cheats required. There was really no way to make this craft without infinite fuel. So you'll have to turn that on. (shift+f12) Download >>> Craft File <<< Special Instructions: -SAS is pretty much required. With SAS on the Nova is very maneuverable. I had trouble making it less wonky, but maybe you can figure it out. The center of thrust is way too close to the CoM and CoL, so I had to move the CoL to infront of the CoM. It's not that big of a deal because of all the control surfaces and wings. Even if you do lose control it naturally rights itself. -Atmospheric flight requires the wings to be centered (open). -Takeoff/Landing must be vertical (obviously). In SPH rotate the Nova vertically, the wings will hold it upright. Turn on SAS, liftoff, rotate. To land, close the wings otherwise the control surfaces will break off. -RCS is in the body. Controlling the Wings The wings are locked in place with quantum struts, otherwise they wobble too much. You must unlock the struts, move the wings, then relock the struts. Action groups [1] Toggle quantum struts [2] Collapse wings - Press again to stop motor. [3] Center (open) wings - Press again to stop motor. ie: Close: 1-2-2-1. Open: 1-3-3-1. Mods Required: Infernal Robotics KW Rocketry Quantum Struts Space Planes Plus Unofficial B9 Repack TweakScale Parts: KW - The Engine. Couldn't find a good one. Settled on a KW one. At first, the Poodle was great, but as I stated above, it was too short and I need something longer. SP+ - The wings. Not really any other good ones. B9 - The body, ie: the little white circular thing after the cockpit (can't remember what it's called). Tweakscale - Moving parts around, not sure if you actually need it or not.
  5. Hahahahaha...I landed this big ass base on Minmus. The last time I landed it on the Mun and the sky crane made it go absolutely nuts, so I kept my last stage, and orange tank with the Poodle engine on it till about 250-500 feet from the surface to give myself as much control for as long as possible. Figure just let it crash and I'll use a burst from the sky crane to move out of the way. Well, when I released it part of it exploded when it the surface and bounced back up, hit one of the arms of my base and sent it tumbling out of control. I was freakin' out, but luckily it landed on one leg, bounced the other way and finally settled down like a coin spinning on a table. It was funny. Now I don't know what to do with the sky crane, keep it, or let it fly? It's got over a thousand delta-v left.
  6. Well I hadn't played in a while so I'd forgotten some of my missions. I found Jeb on the Mun in a science lander so I sent him to a biome I hadn't been to, then realized he didn't have enough fuel to: 1) Make it to the Mun base; 2) make it to the mun station; and obviously not enough to make it back to Kerbin. So crap. Well I designed a fuel lander to give him some fuel using KAS pipes. Only I realize at my SOI encounter with the Mun, that I forgot to add a stack separator at a crucial point so theres no way this thing can land without something breaking. Lo and and behold, I managed to touch it down, then slowly rotate it with only losing one fuel tank! Amazing. I fly Jeb over there without about 200 d/V left in his lander, attach and transfer the fuel. It's at this point I realize Jeb's lander has no parachutes. Well, long story short, after about 8 aerobraking passes around Kerbin I managed to land him safe and sound! Was a very rewarding mission.
  7. Eh, for some reason after 23.5 my RCS thrusters don't respond to rolling of the craft, either manually or through SAS. Am I missing something? I assume its my fault and not a bug.
  8. I ejected from an extremely fast moving Mun rover as it started to tumble into a death roll.
  9. I just completed my first interplanetary mission myself, tho it didn't go nearly as well as yours did. Bob and Bill are successfully orbiting Eve though. I was going to do Duna, but the Eve window opened up much sooner. I didn't get that much science, but I got a lot of experience! Now I've got to go back, get the science and bring back Bob and Bill. I need to remember to send Kerbals other than Bob, Bill, and Jeb to indefinite missions like that.
  10. Ugh, what a day. I attempted my first ever interplanetary transfer, complete with aerobraking! I went to Eve and managed to send 6 ships on the way. Unfortunately, only 3 made it and two were useless. I downloaded ScanSat for something more to do so I sent two probes to Eve. I successfully put one in polar orbit with lots and lots of aerobraking, but I forgot one of the parts. It's creating data, but can't read it. During a save/load mishap, I didn't check to make sure I made all the capture burns on my crafts and ended up missing the other probe, so it's circling the sun right now waiting for its next window. Then, for whatever reason, two of my landers bugged out. They were set on a path to Eve, then I quit the game and when I opened it back up, they were just falling straight back to Kerbin. Something went wrong there. My station did finally make it to orbit! Luckily before my window closed I noticed I forgot two kerbals for the Science Module and modified one of my landers to send Bill, dock, drop him off, then land on Eve for science. I did that. Then I landed the lander, the only one that made it, did science, and noticed I forgot a dadgum ANTENNA. UGH! Alf+F4, see ya tomorrow.
  11. Argh, I had it before .23.5 but now I can't find it. It's a little thing that you can store science in. I thought it was KAS but I reinstalled KAS and its not there. Anyone got an idea?
  12. And I just walked in the door, flipped my computer on, eat something, and boom. I was actually checking to turn off automatic updates. Bout 3 minutes too late. Edit: Remember to remove KAS! Good work fellas. I watched this thing come together and ya'll work hard. Another Edit: Is it supposed to reset all your science or is there something wrong?
