Actually, I'd argue that the Mach effects at altitude-based velocities IS what the devs have stated as the speed of sound on Kerbin. That being said, for now you could just do the layman's way of doing it, and divide your velocity (m/s) by 340, as that is the speed of sound on Earth at 1 atm.

what if ksp runs on the Frostbite engine.
Themohawkninja replied to ouion's topic in KSP1 Discussion
What would be the point? There aren't any interiors to discern from for the purpose of utilizing its audio manipulation (excluding the Easter Egg on Tylo), and the cost of repairing the damage to a building would be astronomical. Not to mention the licensing fees for Squad. Lastly, Frostbite utilizes 64-bit technology, which means it would probably lag on KSP if you didn't have a very high-end system. -
Alternate universes could have drastic unintended consequences you know. I wouldn't trade this universe for a grab bag of possible world dictatorships.

"It's magic!" Whoever gets that gets an Internet.

How many Kerbals do you use to crew various missions?
Themohawkninja replied to Rabada's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Depends. If it's just to the Mun/Minmus and back, one Kerbal is fine. On longer missions I tend to take at least three: two for a science lab, and one pilot. -
Why aliens would be hidden from the public

Wasn't it called the Silver Triangle, or something like that? I know it had something to do with a triangle... -
Mk-3 series and its future
Themohawkninja replied to r4pt0r's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If it could just have the ladder/hatch at some multiple of a 90 degree angle relative to the default rotation of parts, I'd be much happier with it. That's what really bugs me about it. It does have an IVA, it's just not all that great with respect to how much you can see outside and the lack of interior detail (like little post-it notes and pictures). -
What we know about contracts.

But... nothing in KSP has been random since 0.19 came out. I don't really see where your evidence is coming from. -

It was kinda-sorta implied in that cliche politician I'm-not-going-to-directly-answer-the-question sort of way. -
SpaceX Grasshopper and re-usable plans
Themohawkninja replied to jfull's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I made basically the same thread a while back (and it didn't get stickied ). The consensus was, was that it would take a parachute that would weigh so much, that it wouldn't make the system practical anymore. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/39752-How-cost-effective-will-the-Grasshopper-really-be/ -
The closest thing that I've been able to find was a $6.00 ejector seat sign. It was a red triangle with the word "danger" on each side. That being said, the Shuttle never had ejector seats, so it can't be that. I'm starting to think that it might be some sort of low-tech docking helper. If the ISS crew could read the words "danger", then the Shuttle was getting too close. That's just a guess though.

Wouldn't that be a good thing? It would up the difficulty for us veteran players. -

$10 says it's the guy from Ancient Aliens. "THIS... THIS IS ANUBIS... THIS IS WHO THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS WORSHIPED AS THEIR UNDERWORLD GOD!" -

Themohawkninja replied to Themohawkninja's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, for one thing I am not so much anxious as I am seeking information, and secondly, being a sub-forum about development discussions, I don't see why I shouldn't start a discussion on the development of the game. -
Why aliens would be hidden from the public
Themohawkninja replied to Dominatus's topic in Science & Spaceflight
We've all seen what irrational media hype can do to the public. If the government just said "oh, by the way, those were E.T.'s at Roswell", people might go nuts over the idea of an alien invasion. In-fact, contrary to what was said in the original post, the government would be evil if they did just release the information to the public. I'd be quite afraid to live in a world where people just all of a sudden knew that aliens existed in the wake of things like "War of the Worlds". Then again, maybe knowledge of aliens that haven't killed us will calm everyone's nerves. -
RAPIERs don't suck!: A complete performance evaluation
Themohawkninja replied to Captain Sierra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
To go off on that point about how RAPIERs can hold onto their intake air longer, I'd like to also point out that since RAPIERs are both hybrid engines, and they don't have any delay between modes, there is pretty much zero chance of your craft going into a flatspin due to the unpredictable nature of engine flameouts. -
Stephen Hawking says 'There are no black holes'
Themohawkninja replied to PakledHostage's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It still means that the black hole exists, which is contradictory to the title. -
Stephen Hawking says 'There are no black holes'
Themohawkninja replied to PakledHostage's topic in Science & Spaceflight
An imaginary area called the "event horizon" still makes sense if you ask me, since the energy/information can't escape by normal (or rather, "classical") means. It's only (if I understand it correctly) the slow release of it via Hawking radiation that technically negates the concept. -
I have seen the ISS once when the local news pointed out that it would be flying overhead at a given time. My dad and I went out and looked for it, and after a minute or so I found it. It looks the same as a very large satellite from the ground, which makes sense. It was kinda neat.

So, you've just admitted to avoiding taxes and the U.S. Census? Way to go.
