  1. Water splash downs are very common for "pod" landings. Of course a shuttle does not land in water, it is a glider with full landing gear... I don't know about you, but I would rather impact water at 20mph+ than solid land.
  2. I think that sketch is really good, fits and isn't over the top.
  3. I completely understand, especially as she is a young girl. But you would think outright refusing to play the game is a little over the top. But on the whole, it would be nice if she could pick a female Kerbal, even if the only difference is a female first name and a slightly different shaped face.
  4. No offense intended, but if your 8 year old cousin will not play a game because there are no girls, it seems like she has already fallen into the "girls should play with barbies" trap you just mentioned. I 100% agree that it should be no problem at all to have female Kerbals, but that excuse is quite shallow. If a young girl had a genuine interest in Astronomy she would be all over KSP regardless of whether the characters have a gender or not.
  5. +1 Also, once money is involved, we can start investing budget into technology developments, rather than science. But I think there needs to be an infinite use for science, so once the tree is complete, we need to still be able to spend science somewhere.
  6. I agree, this thread should have been locked on page 1 to be honest... But I haven't seen any posts so far which are that bad. When this topic cropped up on the Arma forums... 300 pages of insanity... We are doing OK here in terms of overall maturity on these topics.
  7. Very valid post. For sure this is something that would need to be looked at carefully before implementation. And I totally agree about there being far more science in the solar system than you need to unlock the science trees. For sure this needs to change to make science a far more valuable resource, and so that after unlocking the whole tree, (which is too easy at the moment in my opinion), there are infinite things to spend science on.
  8. Sounds accurate to me. I understand feminism from the point of view that there needs to be equality between men and woman, where relevant. Men should not be classed as "better" than women, and vice versa. We should live in a fair world where men and women have the same quality of life as each other. But 100% equality that radical feminists strive for does not work. (Example of why it does not work: If equality was 100%, why should men hold the door for women? And why should pregnant women get any time off work? That's not fair on men, we can't get pregnant so it's not our fault we don't get time off work! UNFAIR!!! See my point? Big difference between equality and just being stupid. Men and women ARE different, and therefor things will never be truly equal, you need to make exceptions for both sides.)
  9. Yep! For me, procedurally generated solar systems would add so much replay value. Imagine how cool it would feel to discover systems, planets and moons that nobody else has discovered before. You would have that feeling every time you land somewhere, that you really are exploring something new. It would make for some awesome threads full of different things people have found. For me, it would make this already amazing game, so much more fun. p.s, the open source game Space Engine does this on a universal scale, and it is great fun finding new things. Maybe the KSP devs could look into systems that game uses to make their own version for KSP.
  10. This! ^^ There is nothing wrong at all with recovering a landed shuttle, it's just the same as landing, parking, getting maintenance, and then heading out again.
  11. I started a new career, and built a nice inter-kerbin rocket to take me to different biomes. Upon landing in some grasslands, Jeb got out of his capsule, and upon landing on the grass, he was eaten by the cracken. I was sucked under the planet and the space music started playing, followed by the game freezing. Upon reloading the game, Jeb was KIA. I was only 3 hours into the save, so called it a night and will start again today.
  12. This. I have no issue at all with female Kerbals being in the game, but why people get so wound up about I don't know. The dev's will add it when they feel it is time. If they think it doesn't fit in, they don't have to add it. It's just a game, I really don't understand why people always have to bring equality into it, ease up a little!
  13. This idea sounds nice, but I would say it should be done in a "science!" kind of way. Rather than magical bonuses in the tech tree, maybe we can pay money/allocate budget, (in future versions), into technology development, which can improve things such as fuel efficiency, SAS control, and many other things. As long as this game never stops evolving I think the future is very bright and full of potential for cool stuff like this.
  14. That mod looks fantastic, thanks for letting me know about it. Glad to see other people are thinking similar to me!
  15. Hi all, was just reading a thread about unmanned probes, when I saw this post: This idea may have been discussed before, but it strikes me as having a large amount of potential for useful unmanned probe missions, and much more. I know the developers have their own vision for things which I completely respect, but here is a scenario I imagine in my mind that at least seems cool. It may be totally impractical but I have no idea: At the start of career mode, all planets, including Mun, should be "un-mapped", meaning we do not have data about their surfaces or what they look like. This can include not just what the surface looks like, but also atmospheric details and plenty of other data that you would need to know before attempting to land there. To make unmanned probe missions really useful in the game, you could send probes attached with cameras to other planets, and then take several photos until you have fully mapped the planet. Upon transmission of the photos/data, the planet would then start to have it's details and image uploaded into the science center, whilst also giving you science for completing the mapping. To me this seems like fun, as now we don't magically know all about the planets at the start of career mode, and need to research and analyse them first. This would be even better, and insanely fun from an exploration point of view if we had procedural generated solar systems for each save, but I doubt that will ever happen as it's a huge task. Things like telescopes could also be great for mapping planets and gathering information and data. Anyway, just a suggestion, I love the idea of unmanned probe missions alongside manned Kerbal missions, and something like this could really make it worth while to send some probes out before embarking on landing missions. Please do make any suggestions/observations, or let me know if it's a stupid idea!
  16. This my friend, makes it all worthwhile! The best part about KSP is that failure looks so cool!
  17. The same thing happened to me in orbit around Kerbin, but I could never get Jeb to re-enter the capsule. Even when approaching at about 0.1m/s, he just bounced off over and over again until I ran out of fuel. The poor guy was stuck in a never ending orbit.
  18. I played sandbox mode for the first time, (only bought the game a month ago), and made my first attempt at building a space plane... After being unable to take off without exploding, I decided what I need was more rockets. Naturally, this worked a treat, and I came up with this: Believe it or not, it was a total, (although wobbly), success. I took off, and landed, without a single bit of damage. Being the genius I am, I decided the next logical step was more rockets, more wings, and more power. What could possibly go wrong? Some minor issues: Hmmm, clearly, there just isn't enough rockets. Could also do with more lift. Thus, I came up with my greatest creation yet. It is so heavy that it requires vertical solid boosters to lift it once it reaches take off speed, (if it hasn't exploded by then), but I would call it a total success. This is a revolutionary ship, super efficient, almost bullet proof, and a great example of how space planes should be built: As you can see, I was in full control of the craft at all times, and at no point did I collide with the ocean and explode into oblivion.
  19. I'll be going not going to space! not my image, just emphasizes my point...
  20. Thanks for the replies. Some of your points do make a lot of sense. I guess the fact that we are controlling Kerbals, who seem to have appeared magically on some planet, with nothing but a space center to their names, would kind of rule out the "realism" part. However, like many, although I love the Kerbals, I do like trying to replicate real space programs as much as possible. After all, I am interested in human space exploration, not Kerbalian. It's no big deal at all though, if you look at it from the perspective of a species that has not built a car, or a plane, or that even has a civilization, perhaps going manned first isn't so bad... Either way I will continue to have endless fun, but just a thought of mine.
  21. This is awesome! I have no idea how to give rep on these forums, but when I figure it out, you are getting some!
