  1. Hey guys, first post in awhile, but here it goes: I was thinking, what if there were weather balloons, or deployable balloons that are similar to parachutes, except if they have more "thrust" than the mass of the craft, it'll actually pick it up! It could bring it to a high altitude on Kerbin until it runs out of atmosphere to go higher! You would be able to set the amount of Helium or some other lighter than air gas so you could control the altitude, but you could also release air from the balloon(slowly hopefully) to lower yourself back down. I would love to see pods being pulled up to the edge of space, and maneuvering around to get to the other side of Kerbin, but with minimal energy used. Just a cool idea I thought of, but couldn't find any other relevant threads when I searched. Whaddya think?
  2. Ah. I tried searching and it didn't want to search anything but person.
  3. It'd be nice to be able to do different stuff while on EVA. It'd also be nice to be able to build stuff on EVA. Someone could make a mod that introduces a material bay, loaded with materials from Kerbin, that you could assemble on another planet to make a base. The base could consist of stages and to make it easier, each one requires a certain amount of material bays to be added on to it to produce that stage, such as the foundation, windows, and walls, etc. The EVAing Kerbals could each have two tools out of a set, to do different things, so you need more than one to do everything, or atleast two trips to get the tools. I'd like to see thermometers for EVA, along with a barometer, anemometer(measures wind, and why don't we have this?), and other tools like a shovel and stuff. The possibilities!
  4. It's a nice mod, which I'm going to download, but I think it needs to be more streamlined and such, along with a better HUD in the helmet's shield. A man can dream... Thanks for the responses guys, they helped.
  5. I know, it takes skill for Formula K racing, but I would enjoy Drag Racing in another series to see who can make the fastest car possible, which relies pretty heavily on car design, unless it requires user input at different times to make it a fast run.
  6. After this Formula K is done, or not, you should start a Drag Racing Tournament. It'd produce some VERY fast cars out of the fanbase I'd imagine, since you only have to go in a straight line. I would make one of the rules is that you can't come off the ground. I LOVE all the designs you gents, and possible lady gents, have come up with. Very interesting designs and the tracks are tricky. I tried copying the same path with my Exploration Rover and kept crashing at high speeds. Good work, very cool race series and awesome cars and times. KSP needs gas motors and such for rovers. Anyone know if there's a mod? Those would be sweet...
  7. Yes, I will try that! It's almost impossible to try and use the thermometer without machine gun clicking the side of the rocket! It's also really hard to get a rocket looking perfect and placing struts in cramped spaces without zooming in, leading to my rocket falling apart. Thanks a bunch! EDIT: Oh man! SO much better. Should've looked there in the first place.
  8. This! This is more uplifting than the video with the woman and kids. I think this is perfect! We could have a video that shows the crash site, then it swooshes over the flag at half mast and finally ends by going into the Cloning Building and showing this. It'd be perfect and not so depressing!
  9. Hey fellow Kerbal Killers(or Saviors, if you try to keep them from dying.), I just thought of the idea of having a first person EVA camera! So it's more immersive and hands on while you are of EVA! It would be easier to try and board a craft, seeing as you have to try and finangle the camera around to get close to it, but if it was first person, you'd be the Kerbal trying to get it! It would make it easier to fly about in EVA if you're trying to get somewhere. It wouldn't be too hard to code I'd imagine. Just press C while controlling a Kerbal and it would zoom in to a first person camera set in his face. You would have a sort of Helmet HUD surround the camera, but not too intrusive. It would show things such as propellant left, speed, and the standard Nav-Globe. Doesn't have to perfect, it'd just make it easier to move about as a Kerbal and immerse you in the flying part of it. The HUD could also be able to be used for mods too! I can picture a mod that shows the amount of air left in the suit, and stuff like that. Gravity anyone? In my opinion, it's a great idea and would make the game sort of first person. It'd be fun for moon walks, and personally easier for me since I can't zoom in because I have no scroll wheel. I welcome suggestions, modifications, and opinions! Thanks! Brian
  10. I love this idea! Although it could be added to the current science tree as a branch from the beginning. I would like to see a parachute, like the mods have, but stock, stronger boosters, an auto correction system that makes it so you don't drift(not sure if it already has this, as I haven't been on too many EVAs in space except to catch a rocket.), and maybe different aesthetic parts. What I would also like to see is a first person camera of the EVA. That would be AWESOME! That should be in the base game though and already unlocked. Fantastic Idea imo.
  11. Alright, I will use that in the future, but all I did was start a new game, got enough science, and copied the ship files over. Now how can I finally get the Achievements GUI to show up?
  12. It says I need to research them first, but I already have. I will try editing it. EDIT: I have no clue how to open the .sfs file. I've tried 7Zip, but it won't open it. Guess I'll save the ships and start a new game and just add em after I get enough science.
  13. Alright, even MORE problems. After verifying, my old save works, but all parts say they need an entry purchase in Research and Development. I can't purchase them again since i already did, so how can I get around this? Any way to edit a file and make it think I have what I already bought?
  14. Ah. Thank you. It appears they have all been deleted somehow. I verified it with Steam, and it turns out over 1,000 files were deleted, all by me moving a folder and no prompt showing up.
  15. Hey guys, I was implementing different plugins and a mod, and I did as it said. After, when I first started up the game, all my parts were gone! All I did was move one folder to the main folder, and it made them all disappear. I want to verify whether or not KSP's base game parts were deleted, so does anyone know what the file name might be, or where it is? Thanks a lot!
  16. I love this mod! Adds more excitement and direction for me instead of mindlessly launching rockets! I have one bug with the plugin though; the GUI for the achievements doesn't show up. Like there's no button. Do I need to turn it on in options, or fiddle with resolution or something? Clear a cache? I honestly don't know. I still get achievements, which are fun! EDIT: Upon looking at the logs, it gives me this: [ERR 14:37:57.302] error loading button texture: blizzy/Achievements/button-normal [ERR 14:37:57.304] error loading button texture: 000_Toolbar/toolbar-dropdown Which means it doesn't load right. I wasn't sure about this, but I moved the GameData folder from the Achievements folder in Plugins to the Main Game Folder, and I'm going to test it. EDIT2: Good News! I got it to show up, work, and do everything it's supposed to! Bad News! All my parts are gone for everything! Nada! Zilch! Zero! Nothing to build with and nothing to load. Back to fiddling with the files! Any input would be greatly appreciated at this point! EDIT2.1: Tech Tree is empty too! Nothing, along with all saved vessels. EDIT2.2: Anyone know where KSP stores the base game parts so I can check them? All my ship files are untouched in my save, but no parts
  17. There may be some software. Do you have a tool to use the Xbox controller that enables it? Maybe Joy2Key will work.
  18. Alrighty then! Lots of answers! One final question I promise, and this one is for people who have fiddled with the graphics settings: I have all my settings pretty low at the moment and the terrain looks awful, but if not, my PC with lag. My problem is if I walk around on an EVA with a Kerbal, occasionally the Kerbal will either fall through the terrain to the ocean underneath, or he'll just explode, ruining my mission and forcing me to send another plane out. Happens everywhere that's "blurry". Also, whenever I land in any of these places, whether it be with a spaceplane or a returned mission from a rocket, the vessel will shake on the ground and spazz about due to it wanting to drop through the terrain. What do I need to adjust to keep this from happening? Terrain quality?
  19. Thanks! That helps with docking, I'm reading it now! I do need landing gear, fairly bad since I like spaceplanes a bit more than rockets at the moment. I wish there were more ways to get science from spaceplanes... Anyone know the easiest way for me at the moment to get science? I only have the Goo at the moment, but I'm going to try and explore Kerbin with my new space plane and get surface samples and stuff. Any other way to rack up a lot? Thanks!
  20. Thank you guys so much! Both of you answered them perfectly, and quickly! Thank you Yorkie for the wiki link and SAS button! Thanks Vanamonde for the pictures of the ailerons and tanker theory! Do you have any links to the "asparagus" thing that explains how it works? It appears to me that that rocket would have a lot of drag and not be as stable, as in flipping everywhere since it isn't smooth, but eh, I don't know much, besides the first Mun training level and such. By the way, are there more training levels on the forum or mod website? I won't paste your posts in cause they are kinda long, sorry. THANKS A LOT GUYS! Oh and one more, how do you dock things?
  21. So, does that mean you get a sweet black dot from the ribbon generator?
  22. Not that great, but when I had my own playthrough on my brother's computer, I had a sweet rocket that could actually fly pretty far, which by far, I mean I could sling the less intelligent Kerbals out of Kerbin's orbit, and out of sight, while they were smiling the entire time. To get back on track, I was going to make my first successful trip to the Mun. I had it planned out and everything and launched. Almost there and second to last stage burns out, end up double tapping the space bar, and with my command module still hanging on the front with no throttle control, I watched as my rocket flung past the Mun and missed completely. Was pretty close.
  23. Hey guys! I'm kinda new to Kerbal, but man, it is AWESOME! I've built a couple of rockets that go "far" by my standards(Not even out of orbit... LOL), along with a couple space planes, but I have some questions. When someone(ANYONE!) answers a question, I'll post the answer in this post! Thanks! When you make a "tall" rocket, why does it wiggle and how can I prevent that? How far down the science tech tree do you unlock landing gear for space planes? At the moment I'm using a girder and 4 landing struts for landers. How do I get ailerons to work correctly, and where's the best place to place them on the swept wings? How do I go about landing on the landing strip island with only landing struts and not breaking them off? I can perform a vertical landing with parachutes then repack them to take off, but the struts break off from uneven ground when I landing in the Kerbin Plains. How can I get a fuel tank to said island, and how can you even refuel, if that does work? I thought I saw someone with a picture of a fuel tanker in one of the hangers. This last one has nothing to do with the game really, but I just thought of it: How are the air cooled, jet fuel engines more fuel efficient than rocket engines? I understand there seems to be a lot more thrust, but still, the jet engine SIPS fuel at one "point" per thirty seconds or longer, meaning it can get VERY far, at least compared to my rocket engine planes which made it about half way to the landing strip island. THANKS A LOT FELLOW KERBAL ROCKETEERS!
  24. Well, I've got to say, even though I'm not the OP, you guys have taught me a lot about space planes and such, in this thread. I never knew about trim, or rotating pieces, and I have been having this same problem, even with an insanely small aircraft(I think it's pretty small.), it doesn't get any lift at all. I have to control it with the ailerons. Thanks for the info guys, this forum is really helpful
  25. Maybe that Kerbal is hidden in the files and you can get a super secret red one with a santa hat?!?! Oh, I can wish for a red suit.
