  2. Would you need TWR larger than 1 or is it larger than the TWR of the booster at the time of MaxQ (or anytime an abort have to be executed) ? Will say that if the failure results merely in the shutdown of the engine then that's potentially still better than the non-killable SRBs of the Shuttle. Not sure in what scenario would one see the booster engines continue to be on honestly, except for aero/structural failure (which would've stemmed from control failure, as aero fails are most likely due to unusual attitude/situation).
  3. So ? Have you seen the B777 that had it's engine exploded and it remained flying ? You only have to safeguard against catastrophic failures. Make sure you shut things down rather than explode it. Make sure the control is a lot more reliable than anything else. Now yes we'd probably never reach airliner safety. But ejection seat actually still comes with a chance of injuries at minimum and death at maximum if you ever have to use it. There's a good reason why the average civilians don't fly fighter jets all the time (other than that they don't know stuff). But if you want to be arranged for (or is arranged to) a flight with one ? That exists, albeit a very tiny chance.
  4. My real question honestly is more with whether Starship itself is designed beyond the MaxQ - running away from the booster at MaxQ exposes you to higher forces than MaxQ. Capsules are small simple things but an entire thing with whole engines and cylindrical fuel tanks and flaps under it is not that practical IMO. Still betting that the crew compartment will have to be deployable if we want to assume worst-case scenario... Using the rest of the rocket as crumple zone (granted with explosives in it) perhaps we could get away with something that's barely running away from the rest of the rocket. In Challenger Accident the cockpit (crew compartment ? crew cabin ?) actually remained intact all the way to landing, but there was nothing to slow it down. Either that or extremely reliable design that means it's more like an aircraft than any rocket that came before it.
  5. Hydrothermal vents work due to the minerals that they also spew in addition to the heat energy. Unless plutonium is useful chemically (or any of the daughter isotopes) I don't see anything of the same sort.
  6. Well some games deffo go more on the 'it's fun to shoot at things in a game' end of things. Even under such rules you can have widely varying play styles. Yeah. Was wanting to say that you probably might advance better if you have someone else to train with.
  7. Yeah. Guess I've mostly been listing games that're just for the fun of it most of the time, and honestly it's not a bad thing as after all you're doing entertainment for yourself. Tarkov is definitely not all 'fun and games' if we could say so. Kinda wonder if it's an effect in real-time too - like how many players are in etc. Lots of the people I watch do sometimes play in odd hours or so to avoid the really strong ones. Yes ofc this isn't entirely right in any way or sort (as if it's known then it just needs someone strong go in there and the balance is restored) but they do it regardless. Also I think you can 'cheat' the scav cooldown time by simply use the PMC as scav but idk.

  11. Well I mean if it's not your team in any way or sense and you can kill them and loot them then just go and kill it while you can... Works a lot in other battle-royale type stuff too (wait for the others to fight first then attack when they're weaker/non-expecting). I guess shoot anyone that's not a friend is the way forward really. You want to have really good aim and reaction though, so maybe aim training ? Basically the same situation with like Counter-Strike or Point Blank, or the more recent Valorant, you really can't waste any time letting the enemy live any amount of time it's in front of you (unless it doesn't notice you and you don't have anything to fight against it). Now yes you could be attracted to where people really want to shoot each other situation but I suppose you can balance your needs. If it's only a single footstep probably you can go and kill it, but if you know there're a lot of people around you might try to sneak out.
  12. Think that about the two character types you said the guy I watched playing tend to use fairly OK weapons but still only shoot when he has to. That being said he doesn't stream the game anymore since 2 month ago. Most of the guys I'm watching usually do APEX or Valorant, incl. him and his friends.
  13. From the japanese streamers that I watched they barely have to shoot anything while playing it. A lot closer to horror really XD (that being said they do play other FPS and they have pretty good shooting skill - nearly all japanese men who plays FPS can play it well from what I gather, XD)

  15. Given that I'm sure they had to install it on the rover manually before it was launched, probably pretty close unless the containment leaks.

  20. Sadly nearly everything works this way in the transition phase... Which only makes worse the underlying problem that exist with the whole idea, if there's any (like how often we let drivers renew their license without any test, or lax enforcement and prosecution, or the fact that we often use cars where we shouldn't). Don't get me wrong, technology is a great thing to have, but sometimes what works, works.
  21. Seems to me that they're not excercising the option even if it's available. (or maybe it's more difficult to excercise than using their own stuff even if it means waiting around.) The deep-space tracking seems to be completely passive - probably the (semi-)amateurs could achieve similar results (obviously a lot less precise). Data relay is a different story altogether. Well at least there's something to look for on bilibili. If anyone have the links and schedules it'd be great.
  22. More on this level myself, with Musk no longer babbling unnecessarily wrt. SpX's vehicles it's a lot easier to see that they really stick by the 'we'll set the goal there, will see whether we can actually make it' rather than 'no no it really will be like that by X time'. (though given CCDev it's understandable that NASA wanted timeline for their ride.) There're still a lot of question to be asked, but you go from the rough designs first then slowly go to finer and finer details. Getting the whole concept of the vehicle works first is key. Then try to see if you can put payloads (and even human payloads) on it. Then we'll see where we can get from there. Obviously there are rough future ideas which the basic design tries to at least aligns itself by but you want everything to be down in the mud before moving the goalpost.

  24. Considering they only have one relay and it was not in position whatsoever, I guess the wait is understandable. The only thing the lander/rover can transmit to Earth directly w/o relay and amplification is 16 Byte/s (or is it bit/s ?)... in any case waay too slow to transmit images.
