Wow. wow. Excellent work guys, really love it! (back to the drwaing board for me ) Oh, and by the way, if anybody breaks 80k, i'll try my best to make a sig pic for all that participated, if not "hire" an artist to do it!

By kod, you'd be inviting the kraken in for tea! -
Maximum impact velocity
CavemanNinja replied to thereaverofdarkness's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm not going to enter it in the contest, but my attempt which took about 15 minutes, infinite fuel, and and the new engines allowed me to hit 79m below the surface of kerbin at ~12% light speed. If any of us really tried, we could make light speed look sane. just sayin' -
oh my Kod... and i thought 4 jet stages was overkill.... I'm going to need a serious redesign to beat that... (scoring updated, i realized that it being exponential made a massive difference once you got enough stages up.)
-
Had to scrap my original design, turns out the throttle lag on KW rockets is just too much when you go big, enough to waste a LOT of fuel. MOAR jets time! EDIT: you made me do it. Three part SSTO. I'm so sorry. Update: 4 stages in orbit and haven't even broken mainsail level yet. 275 parts... On a side note, I just rediscovered the joy that is mainsails coupled with larger diameter tanks.

Correct, hyperedit is not a listed mod, and therefore you have to get the craft there manually somehow, which accounts for the lower dV numbers. fixed the score.

Air-Augmented Engine Eve SSTO challenge
CavemanNinja replied to KerikBalm's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
What i'm saying is because the atmosphere is so dense, it would take quite a bit bit more force to get the kind of expansion you'd find easy on Kerbin, or it might simply make the effects negligible, in which case you'd have a glorified RAPIER. Also, your argument about ion gliders being silly I feel is pretty much void considering the game we're playing -
Air-Augmented Engine Eve SSTO challenge
CavemanNinja replied to KerikBalm's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm not really sure what to think of this, seeing as using this basically will make all ion gliders useless and therefore a waste of time... great idea anyways, although isn't the atmospheric pressure on Eve enough to cancel the compressing effects of the high airspeed? -
Good lord almightly, that was quite a bit higher than expected! Excellent work my friend. EDIT: Watch your back zarakon, I've got three "stages" in orbit!
-
@zakaron True. I'm going to bump it down a bit, because I hadn't calculated my own score before writing that. My entry, and not a very good one at that. 930.4 points, an easily beatable score. Zarakon, if you'll add up your points I will gladly put both entries on the leaderboard.

Because who wouldn't want an SLS hanging around in orbit! Your task here is to build a launcher, then build a launcher for that, and again, so on, so forth. Points will be awarded for tonnage in orbit, what body you launched from, and for how many "launcher" stages you have in orbit. POINTS: 2 points for every ton in orbit -.2 points for every ton at launch ((2x) * above points) for each "launcher" stage in orbit (x = how many launcher stages in orbit) HARD MODE: x3.5 points for launching from Eve x2 points for launching from Tylo x2.5 points for launching from Laythe x5 points for "launching"* from Jool x1.5 points for launching from Duna Mods allowed are: KW rocketry, Mechjeb, FAR (gets its own leaderboard), and Spaceplane Plus for all you SSTO'ers! *Those who intend on "launching" from Jool must start their launch at an altitude of 0m. -Point of clarification, a launcher "stage" must be able to reach orbit by itself and with the launcher it's carrying also being able to make orbit by itself. LEADERBOARD: 1.Jolly_Roger, 56337.96!! 2.sdj64, 47192.4! 3.zarakon, 26,187.2! 4.Jolly_Roger, 3281.57 5.CavemanNinja, 930.4

This is probably the most radical thing I've ever suggested. Before you move on to moons, you should make a song for the lost planet that was the SSTV signal backstory. Not sure if anybody remembers this, but waaay back, we had a discussion about all the Easter eggs and everybody was puzzling over the image that came out of the Duna pyramid, and eventually the guy who made it (Nova) came along and explained it, found here i believe: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/60247-Duna-SSTV-transmission/page7 The actual story is here, for those who will undoubtedly ask: http://pastebin.com/3vvjushy So basically, I'm asking for a sad sort of song that is reminiscent of the long-gone alien race and their planet. Maybe it could play once you pass Eeloo's orbit? (seriously, read the story all you modders out there. I want a story mode, Stat! ) Seriously though, keep up the good work.

Do you guys ever find yourselves mega-obsessed with replicas?
CavemanNinja replied to G'th's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This thread title describes my life right now... Shuttle, Saturn V, apollo, Soyuz, NASA and the soviets are (were) too good at aesthetics, so i steal theirs! -
Eve SSTO is impossible!
CavemanNinja replied to GoSlash27's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
So, in order for this to work, you need a massive ion glider that can carry enough of a payload to haul it all to orbit. Whackjob, get in here! -
Eve SSTO is impossible!
CavemanNinja replied to GoSlash27's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I'm actually trying this currently using helicopters, which use smaller engines to gain more height than normally possible. As a point of clarification, helicopters powered by sas or ASAS are out, correct? -
Thrust KSC Land Speed Challenge
CavemanNinja replied to ihtoit's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Sorry michaelo and Kevin, but the rules state that liquidfuel must be your primary method of thrust. (not to crash the party or anything, but this will quickly become a part-count race if we all use massless engines...) -
you betcha! The album is before I added the missiles, had to run it through trials before I attempted that.
-
My first military craft, here is the Valkyrie Interceptor! It's equipped with a revolutionary wing design that keeps it from stalling, spinning, etc. as shown towards the end of the album, when I try and fail to make i flip out. Designed to stop an attacking force before they even get to you, it's also got the range to also be used as a small strike force as well. The missiles are WIP, any help appreciated.
